Apparently, Mando is going to make an appearance in the book of boba Fett. Which is going to set up a mandalorian season 3 where grogu returns, just a bit older but still pretty much a baby.

They released a poster for season 3 and he's on it using the force. Though since he's not with Mando anymore, he might not get as much screen time. But I'm not so sure since people really liked him.

Remember that R2 wouldve been at the Jedi temple when Anakin killed everyone.. And Asohka says he was taken from the temple at that time.. SOOO very likely R2 is the one who rescued Grogu and that is why they recognize one another!! Could very well be!!! Guess we will wait and see!

I think the only living character (at the current time) who knew him was, unsurprisingly, Ahsoka. Obi-Wan and Yoda probably did too, but they likely wrote him off as killed when the temple fell. It's possible others knew he was alive, but I doubt a relative baby would have gone out and about into Coruscant for his time there (22 years max). There were roughly 10,000 Jedi, not all of which were in the Temple, explaining how some never knew of others, like how Ahsoka didn't meet Yaddle.
