How to replace the transmission mount: Jeep Cherokee
4.0L Automatic: 1987 - 2001
4.0L Manual: 1989 - 2001
2.5L: ????
The AX-4, AX-5, A-904, 30RH, Peugeot BA10/5, and some overseas models likely use different transmission mounts than the one seen here.
The Mount I used (2000 - 2001 ONLY): www.amazon.com/dp/B009OA86AI?...
2 bolts: M10 x 1.5mm x 30mm
4 flange nuts: M8 x 1.25mm

Amazon. Inductive Heating Tool. Must have for anyone living in the rust belt. Gets those fasteners cherry red hot quickly. Zero broken bolts. You save hours of time. No fire hazard versus a torch. Priceless when I had to remove my fuel tank strap bolts from my WI native '00. Of course, all of the XJs here in CO don't even know what rust is...

You're the man! This was so helpful. Previous owner of my 99 decided to use the crossmember of a 00-01 for some reason, unbeknownst to me. So when I was trying to fit the 99 trans mount to it the entire trans/transfer case was all shifted to the drivers side. I thought I was losing my mind until I saw this and sure enough, the crossmember is not from a 99 so I need a 00-01 trans mount. You have greatly improved my mental state, thank you! LOL

Hey Waemid. Thanks. Use a 3/4 hole saw without a center bit and core out around the stuck bolt. Then weld a long tab to a 3/8 nut to be used as a washer and a anti rotation device. Slide it up into the frame hole you used to spray pbblast. Make it bigger with holesaw if need be. Add bolt and theres yur dinner.

The process on the 2.5 is about the same only difference is with the 97+ models where there is a chance that you have the round motor/transmission mounts (AKA diesel mounts) that nobody makes. You will have to get new rubber inserts and press the old ones out. Replacement inserts are the same as KJ mounts but I am not sure on that.

Cutting thru floor pan above the bolt and welding a nut is easier to fix & better than cutting unibody channel.

a bad transmission mount cannot cause vibration but it can amplify it from elsewhere. I would start by balancing the wheels

Goodsir Waemid, you should save yourself a shit ton of hastle and invest in some Milwaukee power tools.

a reason I don't use power tools is because when demonstrating to people how to do something, using them can be discouraging. Not everyone has power tools, and I like to show a given job is possible without them There are times when they're needed, and in those cases, I have a corded impact gun but it usually stays packed away for the simpler projects

I thought you were kookoo for coco puffs not using power tools.😂😂 But you just put yourself thru the pain of doing everything manually so it doesn't discourage others that don't have power tools. I gotcha you crazy bastard.😂😂 Much respect for that!🫡
