When you don’t have the proper tools, or it’s a really tight spot to get at it,.. just wanted to try this out. I am not a Chemist lol! Just sharing the results I got. Pretty cool stuff. This is a Jeep Wrangler JK, and it’s very common to have water leaks, and when moisture/water gets trapped underneath the sound insulation - bad news. Take it with a grain of salt I guess, flap disks and good old elbow grease are usually the best approach 👍🏼 #phosphoric #jeeplife #jeepjk #rust

Even if you don't rinse off it will be fine. It changed the rust into a black layer that acts like a primer .

Just wipe it off. Don't rinse with water. Those brown spots are flash rust where bare metal is oxidized again due to heat and water.

How much heat there is under pedals? are you driving through lava or something?

Awesome trick. Thanks for sharing.

Yeah. No need to rinse with water. Works as primer. 10% might suffice, given enough time. Turns brown iron oxide (rust) into iron phosphate and leaves a rather good protection even by itself.

Its ok to paint over the white layer it creates ? Or do you have to remove it ?

We fit rust as we drive to work on salted winter roads, 5-6 months to earn money to pay for the vehicle that allows us to earn money to see it rust. Confusing right! Now, out of curiosity, have to lifted the carpet to see what it looks like now? Did you paint an epoxy, POR 15 or place a sound deadening material on it? It now October 2020. We are not in winter yet but if this drips off your shoes inside, what does the bottom of the vehicle suffer? Rust is sad! Thanks for the work it takes to make the video and placing that before/after side by side shot was money. Hit like and subscribe!

Thanks for watching! I never put the carpet back in, or the sound deadener - I had the whole tub sprayed with LineX. In addition to the prep that I did, the Team at LineX also did their own prep work, prior to the application, and I love it! Amazing result, should’ve done this years ago 👍🏼

I have heard of LineX, hope it works good. The bed in my truck is wood, a 67 C10 pickup my son got to mow lawns. He quit after 4 months as I did mechanical and electrical. Just hope it works great for you! Retired now, but years ago, shop manager asked me to take these new test & offer 5 cents per flat extra for each one I passed. Passed all 8. The test covered areas of auto repair and you re-certify every 5 years. Called “National Institute If Service Excellence”. Later, shortened to ASE. Self taught farm guy, worked in GOOD one man shop, then went to get sick pay, vacation and benefits. I became an ASE Master working at the Datsun dealer. Long time ago when the 280Z & Cadillac Seville had 1 electric injector per cylinder. European vehicles had “CIS” constant injection system and never saw the Corvette fuel injection. Everything else has carb(s). Worked on both. I hope LineX works well.

What about that Concrete & Metal Prep by Klean Strip? It's 35-45% according to MSDS sheet and it's only 18$ for a gallon at Home Depot. I don't know why it's green color while the more pure stuff you use is clear. I wonder what the hell else the add to it. The one thing that irritates me, being a welder/fabricator, is on a lot of super rusty things I use, every other time I get a ton of white salts forming which is kind of annoying to re-wire brush off. I've read a lot about the conversion process but curious if you had to deal with the white salts that form or any tips/info about that. Like the other people said, I usually don't rinse it either since I don't want more rust so I usually just let it dry and re wire brush it sometimes.

Yes I also got the white salt formation after the application, I think that wire brushing will work good too. I did a water rinse, based off recommendations from others, and the base metal was recoated the next day or so. I haven’t had any issues yet, it’s still holding up good 👍🏼

White salt is from too much acid. I did same assuming more is better. Not always. Just use a thin coat. It can be used to preserve clean metal like sanded, blasted etc. Just rewet for a few then use scuff pad like he has and water to rinse it and dry. Then epoxy. This stuff works well with oil based like Rustoleum type paints with no extra rewetting, water etc.

Use a 20 or 25% solution of phosphoric acid.

it wouldn't matter though as long as you don't drink it or work in confined spaces.

Corroseal is better and safer. Also cheaper and goes a long way.

1. It is not "better" as phosphoric acid is the main ingredient in any rust remover. 2. Phosphoric acid is already safe. It is less irritating than acetic acid, your only worries should be with eye protection and also not working indoors. 3. As phosphoric acid is readily available in any country, it is more accessible than a certain brand product, which is only known in your country.

I've tried them all in 25 years. Ospho, Rust Mort. Acid works better because of how it works. The dump in yard stuff when done is good for soaking pieces over time. All acids same just different levels of acid. For badly rusted I knock off the flakes and use muratic acid but not long. Just a half hour or so. Rinse well. Then if any surface Ospho and scrub like this and it's gone and protected. Be smart with it. If we gotta tell ppl to not get acid into eyes, on skin or breathe they don't need to use it. That's 3rd grade science DO's and Dont's. Don't pit tongue on bunson burner when on, don't stick hand on flame or other body parts, don't mix amoania and bleach. And if you see a small bubble of paint the rust is ALWAYS worse under it. Catch it while it's small and kill with acid. Just rewet and scuff with scuff pad and rinse. Then coat with any coating. I use farm implement paint. That stuff is hard to remove with a sandblaster.

Phosphoric acid does nothing to bare metal. Very safe. If you dilute it and dump, turns into phosphate (fertilizer). Can be used again (if applicaple), me thinks.

@@apuuvah Ospho, New ferrous metals remove all dirt, oil and grease. Apply a thin coat let dry 24hrs. Then apply paint. Ospho penetrates deep inside, giddity, of the metals pores to convert and protect before Iron Oxide is present. I've sandblasted and sanded to bare metal and coated with Ospho and it didn't rust for a week or so. Long term idk. I guess it would protect until the acid is either washed away. Cause if you don't reactivate and wash when using any non Oil based paint it will give you issues. As long as those steps are done I've used Acrylic, Urethanes, Epoxy etc with no issues. I forgot to do this and my paint started to have small bubbles like rust does when you first see it. I sanded it down and was still soft under paint. Make sure to reactivate with more and wash well when using anything other than a rustoleum type oil based coating.

Not a chance bud,,,I’ve used several rust converters in the past including coraseal and-they are just very short lived remedies.
