For those of you who are new to working on Jeeps, ones with coils and a 4-link suspension system or are just plain curious, this episode of the JL JOURNAL, we'll give you a close look at what's underneath the Jeep JL Wrangler Rubicon Unlimited and with a 3.6L V6 Pentastar motor. Some of the things you'll get to see include the various components that make up the steering system, suspension system, drive train and skid plates and you'll even get to hear how some of them compare to what can be found on a JK. We hope you'll find the information in this short video to be helpful and as always, please let us know if you have any questions.
JL JOURNAL is a WAYALIFE Production with a focus on the all new Jeep JL Wrangler. This KZfaq video series will highlight every aspect of our Jeep JL Wrangler and of course, all the adventures that it takes us on. We hope that you'll follow us along on our journey.

Once again, an exceptionally well done presentation all the way around, Eddie! I long pondered why Jeep didn't offer free-wheeling hubs on the JK's. And, frankly speaking, I'd prefer freewheeling hubs (Warn brand for me of the pre-spring loaded variety) to the electronic device the new JL has. Yes, I realize with the "old-style" freewheeling hubs (unless one opts for the "automatic" type) one has to climb out of the vehicle to manually turn the knobs on both hubs to either "Lock" or "Free." But, unless someone abuses one of the hubs, or his an obstacle, these old manual hubs should easily last the life of the Jeep. Freewheeling hubs saved fuel (about one to one and a half MPG on Series IIA & III 4-cyl. Land Rovers); they also reduced drivetrain noise, as I'm sure you are aware. I'm going to need to do more studying on how the electronic disconnect works on the front axle shafts. Again, your presentations, explanations, and your wife's work with the camera are all first-rate. Thank you both very much for being such an excellent resource for Jeep Wranglers and their owners!

Nice simple overview Eddie! FYI, that's called a 5 link, not a 4 link with a track bar. 4+1=5 links 👌 Just want you to know that your channel inspired me to buy my first jeep last week. 94 YJ with a 4 banger. Might have to run up the hill and visit you next time I head to Reno!
@wayalife
@wayalife 6 жыл бұрын
LOL!! Technically, you are correct. However, there are Jeeps that came with leaf springs and a track bar and then there are custom 3-link suspension systems that have a track bar being that they're not true triangulated 4-links. I was just trying to be clear about things and apologize if I got it wrong for you.

I really wish I could but we only have a Rubicon to work with. The Sport does have axles that are about 1.5" narrower and the front axle is now an M186 and the rear is an M200. No sway bar disconnect motor and the low range isn't as low. More info on all this can be found on www.JLWRANGLER.com

Thanks for video! Could you help to choose please? What is better: adjustable control arms or control arms brackets or 3-link long arm kit (diy kit)? These kits have approximately similar prices. Using vehicle everyday and offroad on weekends. Jeep Wrangler JK Unlimited Rubicon 2015. Lift 3.5 inches. The main goal to put 37 inches tires and make Jeep suspension is very reliable. Few times per year we go to the mountains for a couple days. There is no any service or welding or even electricity. So suspension must be very reliable to not to way some parts in the mountain:)
@wayalife
@wayalife 2 жыл бұрын
Based on what I'm hearing from you, a 3-link is NOT what I would recommend. Things break and with a standard 4-link setup, if you break a control arm, you can still drive off the trail with the remaining 3. You cannot do this with a 3-link setup. Drop brackets are typically cheaper to install and they will help to correct suspension geometry and that will give you a better ride. However, installing them will effectively lower a point closer to the rocks that you just paid good money to raise. Adjustable control arms are what I personally would recommend but depending on how much lift you actually get from your kit, your geometry will be off a bit and you may feel this. Also, it will cost more but it will be the most reliable.

Ya I read where it was 1 to 2 or so inches all the way around I still wouldn't give the 3 to 5000.00 more dollars over my jk what I did see is the front bumper is way larger than the jk

I’d like you to do a comparison view underneath of the 3.0 vs. the 2.0 and what if any difference there is between the two suspension wise. Also, I haven’t seen and reviews of the 2.0 vs the 3.0 in quite some time. The 2.0 has been around for two years now and needs a more in-depth review. Thank you for all your great videos.

I would love to. Only problem is, the 3.0L isn't out yet and we don't have a 2.0L - Sorry.

@@josephremenar3117 Suspension wise, there's no difference. Performance wise, I find that the Rubicon with 4.10 gears is an awesome setup. Anything less than that and I'd still prefer a 3.6L. On ledge climbs like what you find in Moab, I still prefer the 3.6L as well. Otherwise, the 2.0L with 4.10 gears and stock tires is like driving a bat out of hell.

That makes a lot of sense. Also, every time you reply to one of my comments I fan-girl and tell it to all of my friends. Last time was on one of the Calamity Jane videos: I said something like you had a majestic voice that was like the Morgan Freeman of Jeep videos. Or something like that. Can't wait for the upcoming build videos for Jet-Li!

Hard to say for sure at this point and time. The more plumbing you have, the easier it is to stop up the drain or in this case, the more wiring you have going, the more likely something can go wrong.

@wayalife
@wayalife 3 жыл бұрын
The sway bar motor has been around for a very long time and there's definitely information out there about how it works. It's just a motor that separates a gear that ties the two ends of the sway bar.

Matt Clark nothing wrong with FAD. You gotta remember the YJ came out in the 80s. We’re talking 1980s tech verses modern tech. It really isn’t as big of a deal as people make it out to be

Ryan's Jeep Garage The system itself is probably okay as it is, but i know a lot of guys that run 37s on stock JK axles with regears, trusses, gussets, and cromo shafts. I feel like if guys try running these new JL axles like that there will be problems down the road that the 1 piece JK shafts didnt have.
@mattclark8483
@mattclark8483 6 жыл бұрын
Firestarter I guess what im trying to say is instead of putting ANOTHER electronic system in a water and salt sensitive area, why couldnt they just do a full float system. Most aftermarket axles run them or make a kit for it anyway, so why the weak spot. At least this way if you want to have your axle locked all the time just leave the hubs locked, and that way Jeep still gets their gas milage down for the EPA.

Really Chrysler? Just had to add CAD didn't you? Otherwise nice to see some of the improvements but, I can't believe how tiny that oil pan is.
@wayalife
@wayalife 6 жыл бұрын
At least it uses an electric motor as opposed to a vacuum like the old CAD. What I can tell you is that the engineers fought to keep it off. The oil pan is not only tiny but it sits higher up as well. This is a good thing :)
@osrr6422
@osrr6422 6 жыл бұрын
I've had experiences with the vacuum CAD on my old ZR2 Blazer. Nightmare of a system. I've noticed the electrical (motor) driven CAD systems seem to be far more reliable. Even with that, I'd say someone will come up with a 1 piece shaft upgrade (Unless Chrysler has some wonky electronic stuff going on).
@wayalife
@wayalife 6 жыл бұрын
Dynatrac already has a 1 piece shaft coming but the FAD is connected to the transfer case electronically. They're working on a way to fool the computer into thinking it's still there.

Couldn't be any wider than when we were running 40x15.50 wide tires on our big white JK. Back then, it measured 88" wide. Granted, that was pushing the limits of being too wide.
