This is a video on how to replace a blower motor resistor in a Jeep Liberty M/Y 2002-2007(KJ). Tools required are a Phillips screwdriver(or 7mm socket), a 1/4” drive 5/16”/8mm short and if desired a 1/4” drive universal socket, a 1/4” extension with a 1/4” ratchet and a small flathead screwdriver.

Thank you very much! I watched another video that failed to mention anything about the lower panel, it started with everything open. I appreciate the fact that you started with everything together, you explained and showed how to do the job from start to finish. After watching your vid, I was able to replace the resistor in my '04 Liberty in about 10 minutes. Fan now works on all speeds!!! Thanks again.

Just did the replacement myself on my ‘05, I will second a lot of the stories of the old resistor not wanting to come out. The trick is to pry down the little tongue from the resistor side, put on some work gloves and pull, pull, pull. A/C system works great now.

Great video, thanks for the tips. The hardest thing for me (and others -- from reading the comments) was to disconnect the resistor from the socket. I used channel locks to GENTLY grab the (short) sides of the socket and, with a bit of wiggling, removed the resistor. Mark is right about putting the assembly back in only one way. It was hard to see from the video, but be sure the clip side of the resistor is facing down when inserting the assembly into the slot.

Just followed the video successfully. Only thing I'd add is that unplugging the resistor is harder than Mark made it look. The red tab moved back using the screwdriver trick and it took me a while and some fine language skills to realise it needed to move further. I pressed down on the tab from the other side in the end and it came apart. All seems well now, although setting 1 is a bit lighter than I remember. And as an anecdote - I have a right hand drive model and I assumed, based on past experience, that the blower motor resistor would still be on the right hand side. After a tussle with the trim on that side I discovered it wasn't - it is one of the things they transferred over.

Jon Kaines Thanks for the compliment. The connector can be a pain to get out. I think I had released it a bunch of times before the video, so I had a bit of experience. Glad the video helped.

Well, I must say, this DID work. I had trouble getting the clip uncoupled. I ended up lifting up the tab and pushing out the red clip out. Carefule not to stab yourself.. Ensure if you do this, to press down on the 'other ' tab inside. If one doesn't have a universal, just take a 8mm Combination and you can get to the bottom bolt.

My 04 Jeep was only blowing heat on high setting. So after watching this video I decided to change my resistor, easy enough and it blows on all settings but now the problem I have is there’s no heat. I had great heat when old resistor was only on high but now no heat whatsoever. I thought I must of stuck the resistor up side down causing the problem but you stated that it would only go one way so that doesn’t seem to be the problem. Does this resistor only control the high/low settings or does it also control the temperature settings? Maybe I got a defective resistor, not sure. I may put the old one back in and see if there’s heat. Will update my findings. Update: took out new resistor out after vehicle was up to temp, it was very hot to to touch. Put old one back in and got heater to run a little hotter but nothing like it was . Guess I’ll look into actuator change.
@mrk130
@mrk130 5 жыл бұрын
Find anything yet? The resistor does not control the heat. The blend door controls the heat and is actuated by a motor that functions separately form the blower speed.

Re Carpenter I’m having the same problem. I haven’t changed the resistor yet, planning on it this weekend. But I’m not blowing any heat at temperature. But it does blow warm air when I get back in and restart, but only for a few minutes. So does the resistor control the heater control as well?
@Maenneralleine
@Maenneralleine 2 жыл бұрын
If it only blows cold air, iot could be that the thermostat from the cooling system isn't working anymore. Most likely it stays open so the motor cannot warm up. It is a p... in the a.. to change that.

I accidentally pushed the red locking tab all the way out and removed it from the harness altogether. Am I hooped? There seems to be a black tab on the harness as well that I need to push down. In any case, the harness and resistor will not budge at all... very frustrating.
@okallup8012
@okallup8012 4 жыл бұрын
I noticed while doing mine that the tab has to move back and another little black tab within the piece needs to be propped up in order for it to be removed. So try using needle nose pliers to lift the little black tab and then it should still come apart.

It’s the most likely cause but you should use a meter to check for voltages in those speeds.

A closer and more detailed look at removing the old resistor would be beneficial. The red tab thing is not easy to see. Removing the screws was the easy part. This video is 6 minutes and I have been at this for a 1/2 hour already and the old resistor is still connected. Other than that, this is helpful.

My sister-in-law has a Jeep Liberty and there's no air coming out of the vents on any speed but the compressor is on and the ac lines are cold would that be the blower motor or the resistor causing no Air flow.
