This time on the AutoEdits Jeep build up video series... I'll test out three different air compressors from cheap Amazon, to mid/high range Via Air, and on up to the ARB Twin setup with the Innovative AT Products 4 tire air system! And I'll do a super thorough How To installation from start to full air down and air up... spoiler alert... it's pretty great. I love it.
Here's a link to the Innovative AT Products website:

This system is located under the JK section but they have them available for all JL and JT platforms as well.
You'll find all kinds of good stuff in the AutoEdits Amazon store and anything you purchase even after just starting from that page... HELPS me out... so thank you!!!

Jason! You can’t just say what a compressor costs when my girlfriend and I are both watching the video together. She knows what we have, now she knows what it cost! 😂. So do I because the price was buried on one of my many invoices. 😮 Going to watch the rest of the video now, might have more comments.

I've had the same kit on my Jeep for a year or two. Really love the compressor and how everyting looks when finished. It's very well tucked in, the compressor is protected from heat (not under the hood), and is super convenient. It airs up equally and quickly. Very good product and solution! One thing I have noticed though is that using the "air down" feature almost never airs all four tires down equally. This is on flat ground, on the trail, and on my driveway. They are always a pound or two off and different from eachother on most of the tires. I think it's because the pressure of the air down is happening at a lower rate (due to declining pressure) than at air up. Airing up is great and equal (probabaly due to higher pressure at air up), but airing down needs some more effort. I normally take all four down to a pound or two over what I'm really looking for and then manually finish each tire off to get them all at the same PSI.

This was my go to video to install Innovative AT product. The power path to the battery was not as fun, however, I had to drill it out bigger using a multistep. After that larger firewall, it was a breeze. So having a 37 inch tire needs some help for airing down and up. This video was awesome and fun.

Having Multiple Jeeps, I mounted the ARB Twin inside a Ridge toolbox. Didn't want to buy multiple ARB Twins. Did a little rewiring (Delco wiring harness and small rocker switch) to clean it up. Added battery clamps and the ARB muffler to reduce the airflow spikes. Custom made a hose system so I can do all four tires. Digitle pressure gauge and adjustible overflow(can be used for airdown). Now I just put the toolbox (airup kit) in whatever Jeep we are running. If my wife is on the trail or I'm leading a group, we just setup a little station.

Hey Jason I've seen this set up before and it's a good system although takes up more room than I'm willing to give up. My ARB is mounted under my hood and I kinda like going around to each tire to air up. While I air up I check all my suspension bolts at the same time. (Paint marks on my bolts) We never seem to wheel with many people on our overland adventures if anyone at all. Me the wife and dog 99% of the time and our 4 Dr JL is packed down so all space is valuable. Retired so not in a hurry anyway. LOL Great videos Jason!!! You have a great setup on your JK!

Not sure what room you are giving up? How much are you storing under the passenger seat? Like I mention... saving a few minutes airing up isn't as important to me as the deployment. I don't want to open the hood and have to match pressure tire to tire. I enjoy developing an efficient process... pure luxury and a blessing. I totally dig that your under hood setup checks the box for you! That's the whole point of this!!! Enjoy any time on the trail!!!

I would love to see you, do a comparison between the various compressors using the four hose system. The advantage of a four hose system seems to be that it reduces the restriction in the Schrader valves. So if you can fill four at once, you are eliminating some of the restriction. I am an ARB guy, but I am curious what the other compressors would do if not limited by the Schrader valve.
@AutoEdits
@AutoEdits Жыл бұрын
I love the engineer's brain perspective from you! I DID do a unique test using my Monster Valve (from PowerTank) VS the Schrader valve (on the same wheel/tire) and the results were dramatic. Almost 30 seconds faster 15 to 30 psi on the Via Air and 25 seconds faster on the Amazon special. It got too complicated to incorporate all those times in this video and if I really wanted to make this setup deluxe I would get 3 more Monster Valve air chucks and it would be even faster! But those things are expensive and I just adopted this worn out old dirt bike that's going to eat up all my money in the near future. 🤣

Good seeing our ol’ buddy, Pinto! I really like the idea of this! As a cyclist…I would love a system that easily keeps my tires pumped up. Bikes lose their air faster than cars. I really need to…at least…buy a shed-load of those tiny CO2 cylinders for when my bike gets a flat, LOL! The flats get me when I do my 9-mile commutes. On long 100-plus-mile trips when I’m carrying my big bike pumps and extra tubes and such…my tires never go flat! Weird…lol!

After doing a ton of research comparing all kinds of compressors including portable shop compressors with a pure sine wave inverter, I settled on a 20 lb co2 tank and a diy 4 tire inflation system. About $300 for the entire system including a filled tank. I can air up 4 35x12.5x17 tires from 15 to 33 psi in 28-30 seconds. Not several minutes. Half a minute for all four at once. You should check out that Jason. Yeah, I know you likely won't get a free sponsored kit to review for a video, but amazing speed and versatility. You can even use air tools.
@AutoEdits
@AutoEdits Жыл бұрын
It's not all about the speed. Most important to me is the footprint and deployment. CO2 is a no go for me. Having to store the tank and regularly fill that thing is out of the question. I've been on several trips where someone's CO2 tank either failed or was empty and they borrowed my pump. I was fine airing up in 20 minutes and this just gravy to do it under 5. All that said... I totally appreciate your setup... it is so rewarding to come up with the thing that does the trick for your particular needs.

@@rsaunders223 I've refilled 4 tires about 15 times and haven't had to refill it yet. Powertank says 36 tires my size, but that may be from completely flat. It will cost about $90 for my 20 lb tank. I got it from a local welding supply. It's an exchange and they keep the tanks up to date on the inspection and certification. BTW, I bought a 30 lb fire extinguisher stand and have it standing upright in the back of the Jeep. 6 nutserts holds it very secure and the tank can be removed in seconds. I can unbolt the bracket in a minute or two.
@rsaunders223
@rsaunders223 Жыл бұрын
@@raymondmiller4981 that definitely lasts longer than I thought. However I have 37’s and $90 to refill is a lot of money. I use the arb dual with a home made 4tire inflation system and it takes around 5 minutes to completely air up. One thing to note, even though a power tank will complete the job in a third of the time, unless everyone in your group has the same setup you’ll still end up waiting for everyone to finish airing up anyway. In my experience it’s always the first person done that has to help people air up as well. I don’t mind at all with my compressor, but with a power tank I could see those refills happening a lot sooner than anticipated.

I’m pretty sure these are my two last thoughts- 1. I’m not a fan of having the compressor in the vehicle. But I run ARB’s and occasionally cycles while I’m driving and it is stupid loud. Well howdy, glad you took a moment to comment. At this point of the video I do a timed air up of each compressor kzfaq.info/get/bejne/p8-KrbyYl6nGmmw.html Quick recap, the ViaAir came in second place and the Amazon in third.

Hey Jason, enjoyed this video and all past videos. I’m in the fence with any type of compressor/tank. But after seeing this video and the ease of deployment, I think I might be sold on it. Do you know if this compressor will fill 40 inch tires? By the way I don’t see the rush of getting the tires air up after a run tbh, am I missing something?
@AutoEdits

Howdy and thanks! It's not necessarily a rush to air all the time but haven't you ever had a long day on the trail... sun is down and you have a long highway drive to get to your destination for the night? That 30 minute air up feels like eternity. Cutting it down a little bit is just a fun luxury. Plus, when you're in a group, there's that unspoken competition to air up first... even though you are waiting for the slowest guy anyway 😂 I love the how efficient this setup is with space and deployment... that's the big draw for me and yes, the ARB twin can do 40's no problem.

@@AutoEdits I see what you mean now. I am tired 🥱 after a long day in the trails, I forget how much focus you have to be when wheeling. Thanks for the reply and now I will be looking into getting that ARB. P.S. I’d said before and I’ll say it again “I miss Ram Johnson,” lol. That truck really inspired me to build my truck, just put a set of power stops on it.

Nat a fan. when its cold as shit, I want my doors closed while airing up or down. With this system, you have to leave your doors open.. Single source air point in the back of the jeep or up front outside is a better choice in my opinion.

Great gauge. OK set up. I am a power tank guy. The noise from the compressors kill it for me. I used compressors for years, now for the last few years power tank. Yes, you have to get them filled, not a big deal. Power tank stuff is top notch, not to mention FAST FAST FAST.
@AutoEdits
@AutoEdits Жыл бұрын
I totally get you ... every bit of Power Tank equipment I own is phenomenal. Having to fill the tank is a deal breaker for me and the fact that the tank and hose still needs to live in my "sleeping area" makes this setup the bees knees for my routine. Plus, I'm not sure what you mean about the compressors being loud, the seat totally muffles them. I did the demonstration in this video and was able to talk only slightly louder... and they're only on for four minutes. Not a big deal for me.

@@AutoEdits Tank is mounted on the roll bar out of the way and the hose is stored in same bag as the gauge. I sleep in the back of the jeep on multi day trips. I'd say about your age and quiet is king these days. Also the less stuff hooked up to the battery is peace of mind with parasitic draw concerns. Call me crazy but solo 80 miles from pavement...I still do hold my breath each morning at start up while I stare at the NOCO jumper bag.

Glad you have a system that works for you. Battery issues aren't a thing for me (maybe you should consider an upgrade) and what noise? 4 minutes of muffled compressor from under the seat that is the same as an idling engine??? Come on dude.

I've been impressed with the 400P running 30+ minutes at a time to air up my rig and a tire or two on my friends rig but the ARB only needs to run 4-5 minutes at a time in my current setup. Did multiple tests during this shoot and it never faltered... so I'm curious what you mean.
