On the docket today; Shock and Bump Stop replacement on a Jeep Wrangler TJ. We are replacing some crappy lift kit shocks with high quality Bilstein units, also replacing the bump stops which should have been done when the lift kit was installed. Shock Replacement on a TJ is similar to the rear of a XJ Cherokee and identical on the front.

What a chore. I've been beating on the separator tool for an hour and haven't got far at all. I even squirted penetrate on it, hoping it would help loosen it up. Thanks for the support. I know you've got better things to do!!

Thanks for the reply on the re-alignment. One more! I'm stalling an OME stabilizer dampener and getting rid of the Rough Country. The RC has, (I think you called it a pencil). How in the heck do you get those loose from the steering arm so the new one that comes with the OME can be installed? I've tried everything I can think of. Thanks in advance. I truly appreciate your help and videos.

To remove the pin on the drag link, remove the cotter pin and nut, then use a ball joint separator to pop the pin out and replace with the one provided by OME

Thanks again, for your help. The pin on my drag link, looks just like the one supplied by OME. If I understand correctly, I can use a ball joint separator to get the RC pin out of my drag link?

The ranchero 5000X are cheap shocks but amazing for the tiny TJ.

I had a Rancho shock fail (internal blowout) on the Mojave Trail. I swore I would only use Bilstein after that

By the way, I spoke to a fellow at Rubicon Express. Their shocks are made by Bilstein.

Super-B, prior to my owning my 2005 TJ, someone put the Rough Country 3 1/4" lift on it. I replaced the RC shocks 2 years ago with the Rancho 5000X but based on your experience I'm going to replace them with the Bilstein 5100. I'm also replacing the RC springs with Rubicon Express 2.5" lift springs. Their corresponding spring is their RXJ703B(F) and RXJ704B(R), do you think I can use the Bilstein shocks you replied to Dante? If not how would I figure out which shocks to use? Your video is excellent and if you thought the RC shocks were crap, you would really swear up a storm had you seen mine!! Thank you.

Once you replace the front spring and replace the front shock, is it necessary do realign the front end???

Could you help me with the bilstein No. models you used!? Would you recomend the ones with reservoir on TJ with 80% city route? (Streets in poor conditions)
