Flashy kicks? You mean head kicks that totally work if thrown with power, they do that in mma and fights and they work ALL the time. And WHY in the world would I destroy this boxers knees and kick him in the groin? Were SPARRING not fighting.

@@joelpollardjkd dude, as I said, I know you’re not trying to hurt him and only sparring, but you need to train what you intend to use. When I say destroy the knee, I mean that should be your intent, not to literally do this to your training partner. As for the high kicks, you’re missing the philosophy of JKD. Closest weapon to the nearest target. You have to pass a multitude of targets to get to the head with your foot. Think about it dude, seriously. You’re on a journey, I get it, but the biggest thing JKD should develop is your mind and thinking. MMA is a sport, not true Street fighting. There’s a reason they don’t allow, eye jabs, throat punches, kicks to the knee and groin, they are disabling in a major way, and why they’re the primary tools of JKD. Just saying!

@victorgeorge4804 thank you, Obviously I'd it was a real fight, eye jabs, hard side kicks to the knee, groin kick followed with combinations, Headbuts, and actually clinch work would be fairly effective. But we were sparring, this is what you do in sparring

sparring is putting training into practice in a functional situation, without obviously hurting your training partner (too much). I get it’s the fun bit, but it also needs to be realistic, otherwise it’s pointless. The first thing to do in a confrontation is avoid it. If it can’t be avoided, it needs to be treated seriously, and the scrappy messing around you’re doing is what you’re training into your muscle memory and subconscious. JKD should be teaching you not to scrap. Streetlights can get scrappy, but you shouldn’t be training scrappily. Distance and footwork is key, not much sign of it. JKD is a precision tool that ends fights quickly, and while I understand you need to train for every eventuality, your primary goal should be ending it quickly, and if you don’t train or spar that way, how can you seriously expect to suddenly change to that in a real life scenario. Maybe buy groin/shin and knee guards and safety goggles or chest protectors that you can train and spar more realistically. Just a constructive suggestion. If you’re just training for sport and rounds and not reality, please ignore my comments, they are not meant to offend.
