He is absolutely right. I went to Kota in 2015 after my 12th. I got sick twice in 1 year(Chicken pox and Dengue afterwards). Couldn't Crack IIT. Although it wasn't entirely my fault it still messed with my confidence. Moved to Bangalore and did Engineering from a private college. Gave it my best shot and now I have just as much of a good job as my IIT friends as I'm working in Data Science in an MNC. But it took me 5 years to gain that confidence back. All I can say is believe in yourself. IIT is great, but it's not the end of the world. You define who you are. 🙂

I never went to Kota. But I'm an engineer. This speech literally brings me to tears because it speaks truly of my past. 7 years is exactly what it took.

I also wanted to be an IITian once. Never moved to Kota. But instead of PCM, in std. 12th - I was too much invested in coding (I started in std. 6th) and I was weak in chemistry and somewhat okay in Maths and Physics. I wanted to be a computer scientist and do some research, but there was a big wall of JEE-Mains and Advanced standing in front of me. Somehow got through mains but got stuck in advanced. Then my father said, "Don't worry. IITs are not the best institutions of the world anyway." Then I thought, why I am looking only for Indian institutes when I can go anywhere in the world... I moved to USA and one of the most prestigious universities of the world accepted me - because they didn't wanted to know how good I was in chemistry to make a good computer scientist out of me. In a few weeks, I am going to publish my first research paper and I can't be more glad! 😊

among all the engineers I am a designing professional enjoying the series and my awesome work. I am free of all these things, I am living the life I wanted, helping people, doing business, work on new interesting projects. Just because I refused to go to engineering college even after getting a 5k rank in AIEEE, refusing all the "well-wishers" advice that translates to engineering is the only way of life. Now, to the aspirants, IIT is not your goal, if anybody tells you that, they are lying. it's just the way to achieve your goals. if you are an engineer it's enough to get a good college, to be a good engineer not necessarily IIT. Be the rancho of your field. best of luck.
