Welcome to episode #92 of the Rock Interview Series. For this episode, we have a very special guest: Jeff Pilson, the bassist, songwriter, and producer who has played with some of the most popular bands in rock history.
Jeff Pilson is a versatile musician who is currently the bassist and music director for Foreigner, one of the most successful classic rock bands in history, since 2004. He is also the longest tenured band member, other than founder Mick Jones. He has also rocked the stage with Dokken and Dio, two iconic bands in the hard rock and heavy metal genres.
In addition, Jeff is part of The End Machine, a band that was established in 2018 and features former Dokken guitarist George Lynch, Tesla drummer Steve Brown, and rising star vocalist Girish Pradhan. Their new record, “Quantum Phase”, will be released on March 8, 2024 on Frontiers Records. This is the third release by The End Machine, but the first one to feature Girish Pradhan as the lead singer.
In this interview, Jeff talks about The End Machine, past history of Dokken, and future plans for Foreigner. It’s an interesting conversation that you don’t want to miss. So, without further ado, here is Jeff Pilson.

This is the best they have done musically. George’s guitar has gone to another level

Always refreshing to hear someone of that music era address the rampant drug problems of those days (and pretty much to this day, in society in general). So very destructive and such a waste, really... I remember it all, sadly.

Good interview - you asked the questions and then got out of the way - without talking about yourself or trying to be some kind of,personality. Very nice. Jeff is an engaging and nice fella to speak with from what I see here. Great interview

indeed it was nicely done and he opened Jeff up. Jeff also played a good hand by admitting to certain things that he had done, also saying George did some stupid things. Don seems to be the only one who does not openly admit his faults or how he contributed to this.

@@Dave_Wight_The_Rock_Oracle Don is just mad that he has had to wear a hair system all these years….back in the under lock and key days he was a phenomenal singer…and horrible frontman….i must also say, I believe Don wrote a LOT of the riffs….not full, songs….but riffs. I will also conclude that Up From The Ashes with Billy White and John Norum really kinda stuck it to George….that album is just as good as tooth/nail, under lock and key and anything Dokken ever did…..

@@joerectifier Horrible no, he was a non entity. He seemed like a guy who begrudgingly fronted a band and wishes he could play guitar like George. I mean he never really knew what to do when he was not singing. Don did a fair show of the riffs or ideas but in no way did he write Under Lock and Key by himself

@@Dave_Wight_The_Rock_Oracle He was a hell of a singer, but What I mean was what you said - terrible at working the crowd and "fronting the band" like an entertainer should.

Should have let Robert finish the trio, imagine how hard he worked to be replaced, it's really a huge blow.

Great interview from Jeff! Respectfully I think Phase 2 is by far the strongest and best album from this band. Rogert Mason's voice is still far superior in my view. The latest album is still very solid though.

My parents met Don, Jeff and Mick during that Aerosmith tour. Listening to this interview, it makes sense that George wouldn't be interested in hanging with the band and fans. George Lynch and Joe Perry are the reason(s) I started playing guitar. Also crazy that Mick's brother is playing with End Machine. I watched one of the videos and thought he looked like Mick but wasn't aware until Jeff brought it up.

Foreigner is a cash cow trading on the past hits. They are not stopping any tours no matter what is said. I'm sure everything including hologram tours will be in the works at some point.

In my opinion on the dokken name I 100percent believe Don should have been able to keep the name its his name, and dokken was the name of the band prior to george, mick, and Jeff being in the band and I am pretty sure geffen was very aware that they were only getting Don but they probably thought he would retain the name it's his own name but up from the ashes is an incredible album and it stands up to any previous dokken album in my opinion

I saw the Monsters Of Rock at The Hoosier Dome….I enjoyed Dokken and that’s why I went - but Metallica was ridiculous and just overwhelming. If I remember I left when Scorpions came on….there was nothing to give after Metallica, but I was there for Dokken 😂

Too bad Robert wasn't still singing. This has changed The End Machine sound... Unfortunately this is becoming Lynch Mob. If there is a next album who will be the singer? Nothing against the person singing.... Will there be a new Black Swan album with the original members? Or will the owner of Frontiers order changes for that band too
