FOR ALL INSTRUMENTS - Welcome to DIGGING DEEPER. In video #29, we expand our look at triad pairs, using a great triad pair over a minor/dorian sound. What are triad pairs, you ask? Will they make me sound better and make me more attractive? Will I finally get that promotion at work? Should I be getting more potassium in my diet? These are great questions. We'll answer one of them.

A great idea would be for you to work with the videos and learn the notes of the example "by ear." Keep rewinding the video until you find the note or notes I am playing. That is a MUCH deeper way to learn, it will improve your ability to hear the music, AND it will get you started on learning to read the notes. A great plan for you.

Cool beans Jeff !! Playing along with you on a keyboard really helps me make sense of this lesson. Now to try it on my horns. Also very good advice about not trying to learn it all. Just learn one thing at a time. Thanks Brah..

Powerful concept Jeff....more 4ths, movement between triads; but I also realized that I don't work inversions enough. Time for me to get to work, and have some fun. Thanks...

That's a good point. The inversions are what really moves triads from "just some simple thing" into making real music with them.

I really like this concept which I'm new to. I do play guitar however. Do you think this concept can work good in other genres besides jazz? Awesome video, I subscribed.

Thanks for tuning in. So glad that you like that videos. And yes, absolutely Randy! These triad pairs are a great way to extend the harmony and give us great solo ideas. It won't fit on every rock tune, but I guarantee some of your heros are hip to this stuff. Stay tuned for much more!

So glad you enjoyed this. Triad Pairs are a very cool (and fruitful) construct for sure. Have fun with them. I generally don't do Skype lessons, but have and would consider it. Really. the best bang for the buck is ww.JazzWire.net. I built Jazz Wire for just this reason, as an option for folks who want to work with me deeper and more regularly. That said, drop me a line at DiggingDeeperJazz @ gmail.com and we can chat!

I posted this question in reddit a few days ago and this video pretty much answers my questions big time.. especially with the D Dorian example This was my question WHAT IS JAZZ VOCABULARY Can someone please explain me what jazz vocabulary is?.. I know how jazz sounds, it is kinda inside my brain, becauseI have listened to a lot of it.. but I don't know how to express it in a scale improvisation context.. For instance, if I'm improvising over "So What" and I play D Dorian scale up and down, just doesn't sound like jazz at all... neither if I play some random movements in the scale... but if you are playing a 12 bar blues, and you grab a pentatonic scale and just mock around with it.. it does sound like blues.. does it make any sense?... I need some serious help with this
