Chorus:
One begins to read between the pages of a look
The shape of sleepy music and suddenly you're hooked
Through the rain upon the trees that kisses on the run
I saw you
I saw you
Comin' back to me
You came to stay and live my way
Scatter my love like leaves in the wind
You always say you won't go away
But I know what it always has been
It always has been

This song has helped me through so many hard emotional times in my life since I first heard it in 1967, from break-ups in adolescence to the death of my son in 1985 and most recently the passing of my husband of forty five years. Sad but somehow cathartic, reminding us in a beautiful way that loss and the sorrow it brings is an inevitable part of life that we all share. Thank you, Marty Balin. You knew the human heart well.

San Francisco is very much the setting of this painfully beautiful song; "Strolling the hills overlooking the shore, I realize I've been here before... the shadow in the mist could have been anyone..." This song could only have been written surrounded by those hills, shores, and mist.

And somewhere along the way, dutiful, thoughtful, Chloe Natasha will realize that Grandpa, as does almost every full-grown male on the planet, carries within him a broken heart. Loss. Sometimes it is a woman. Sometimes it is a friend or a comrade. Sometimes it is an era. And once in a while, a song breaks our heart for reasons known only to the soul.

No auto tune. No ProTools. No digital manipulation. Just great musicians, a great singer and great lyrics. It makes me both mad and sad when when younger people claim that the music from the 60s and 70s was crappy. I'll take this kind of music instead of the over-produced modern stuff any time. Here we are 50+ years later and we are still listening to it. RIP Marty, Paul, Skip, Spencer and Signe.

Who says music from the 60s and 70s is crap? No need to be mad or sad at the fact that music changes over the years. Music wasn't better or worse back then. Just in transition, as it will always be. Go out and listen to some new music with an open mind. Maybe not the stuff shown at Super Bowl half time. Every kind of music you've ever liked is still being played somewhere. And by great musicians.

As a child I would sit playing with toys under our breakfast table while our mother cleanup in the kitchen. Her small radio on the window seal shelf above the sink. She was 23 years old. Singing soft with the songs. She would turn up the volume to listen to her favorite ones. She died of cancer in 2019. She never complained of how sick she was or did she stop going about her day like nothing was bothering her. My mother was always a beautiful lady. Her blue eyes deep and smiled when she was happy. A small lady with golden light in her long reddish hair. She was Irish decent. A child of the 40s, a youth of the 60s. Life has changed since she has left but every now and then I catch glimpses her... standing out by her pink peonies or smell her bit of perfume. She visits... which is alright with me.

i spent the best summer of my life with her and because of her, i know love at first sight exist cause i experienced it almost 16 years ago and i still feel it deep in my heart, and this is after many great relationships and wonderful women that have come into my life and yet nobody has ever made me feel the way she did, she was gone as fast as she came into my life. She melted my heart into complete mush so much that i traveled across the country to be with her, and along the way i got see the rest of the outside world and it led to me see there was so much more out there than the little ghetto town i was used to and felt i'd be stuck in forever and i was so grateful for that, needless to say things didn't work out the way i wanted to them to and it took me so many years to realize that, that was for a reason. she came into my life to open my eyes to what life really had to offer, to experience what is thought to be an unobtainable level happiness for even a single summer was more than i could ever ask for, even a single day is more than i could ever ask for and i got it, not everybody can say that. everybody has that person they would have chosen to be with forever and she was definitely mine........for that time......for that time in my life, in that part of the world cause now, her and i are two completely different people, we both have children and live in completely different parts of the world and mentally worlds apart.. Can you believe she actually lived only an hour from me in the not so distant past for a number of years and you know how many times we met up? ZERO! why? because i truly believe that that's the way things are meant to be and it saddens me that we have to grow up, some of us faster than others. if i could have stayed 18 with her forever i would have. some truly great times in my life those were and i will always and forever cherish those moments i had with her, i still have all of your love letters to me and when i was moving recently i came across them and i looked at everyone of them and just thought to myself, i'am exactly where i'am at now in my life because of these letters. thank you for that and where ever you are at, please take care of yourself and don't ever forget me.

@@jakemcclintock8696 shes long gone my friend, I used to have a nickname for her, I called her hand grenade cause after we broke up we stayed in contact for a while and she just like myself went through many a relationship and she sabotaged every single one of them, they would explode on her like hand grenade, think of her as Jenny and myself as Forrest Gump lol. Jenny was so free spirited and wanting to experience life on the edge, she was kind of like that. She didn't want to live in one place she wanted to live in 20 different places all around the world, myself being Forrest Gump, I was always willing to take her back no matter what and I waited for her for many many years but alas, I didn't end up with her. I have no idea what happened to her. She has no Facebook or anything but that's ok. If we are truly meant to be together we will end up together but again, highly doubtful cause I've found a wonderful woman quite Some time ago and again Lol, I'm getting ready to move even further across the country. I take comfort in knowing that we look up at that same night sky every night as corny as that sounds lol.

In 2018, Marty Balin said that he wrote “Comin’ Back To Me” (1967) after smoking a joint with Paul Butterfield. “I was in my room and I tell you, I couldn’t find my legs,” recalled Balin. “I got up and went to the guitar. BAM❕In five minutes the song came out.” The songwriter rushed to the studio where he found Jerry Garcia and Jack Cassidy. He asked them to play and urged the sound engineer to start the tape. All was recorded in one single take. Balin didn’t think much about the piece afterwards, because it was so soft that it couldn’t be interpreted live (or so he thought❕). Nonetheless, Comin’ Back To Me” ended up being one of Airplane’s favorites among their fans. Later, Jefferson Starship* would do “Comin’ Back” live, and singer Marty Balin almost always introduced the number with a reference to the “Surrealistic Pillow” sessions, mentioning Jerry Garcia as having played the guitar parts on the original studio version. 💜🎶💛 * JEFFERSON AIRPLANE formed in 1965 and remained so until 1972, when they disbanded. They regrouped in 1974 as JEFFERSON STARSHIP until 1985 when they were renamed STARSHIP due to personnel changes and a lawsuit. Following a short hiatus in the early 1990s, the ensemble was revived once again in 1992 as STARSHIP.

The summer had inhaled And held its breath too long. The winter looked the same, As if it had never gone, And through an open window, Where no curtain hung, I saw you, I saw you, Coming back to me. One begins to read between The pages of a look. The sound of sleepy music, And suddenly, you're hooked. I saw you, I saw you, Coming back to me. You came to stay and live my way, Scatter my love like leaves in the wind. You always say that you won't go away, But I know what it always has been, It always has been. A transparent dream Beneath an occasional sigh... Most of the time, I just let it go by. Now I wish it hadn't begun. I saw you, I saw you, Coming back to me. Strolling the hill, Overlooking the shore, I realize I've been here before. The shadow in the mist Could have been anyone - I saw you, I saw you, Coming back to me. Small things like reasons Are put in a jar. Whatever happened to wishes, Wished on a star? Was it just something That I made up for fun? I saw you, I saw you, Coming back to me.

Okay. I've listened to this album since forever it seems. There are tunes here that absolutely seem to want to help and I hope they do too.

I haven't listened to my copy of this in a while. I remember listening to this while I was doing my homework in my junior - maybe senior? - year of high school and getting so into the music that I just left the homework sit there. This version just doesn't skip in the place where my album used to stick! I was so careful of my records I was sure my younger sister had been listening to it when I wasn't there. Then I realized maybe I needed a new needle for my turntable. Just the same, I look for him to sing: "wasn't it just" the last time, over and over, auntil I get up and gently move the arm of the record player.

When I was in 4th grade I had A teacher that I believe was an Earth Angel. Her name was Sr. Laurentine. Each day going to school, was a privilege, just to be in her presence... God Filled our classroom. Nuns don't get to choose where they are sent. On the last day of school she told us she was being transferred. How she truly loved us all came through her entire being. A girl in our class was going to Europe on the Nina, Pinta & Santa Maria. The whole class was invited to the bon voyage upon one ship including Sister Laurentine. Many girls spent time with her, as I so longed to, but that would.mean saying goodbye & I couldn't The announcement was made "10 min. guests unboard" So I was just about ready to slip out the door, as she gently said,"Linda" I flew over the crowd into Sister Laurentine's arms. It took 4 people to pry a hysterical 10 year old off her neck. Outside she asked my Mother,"Please take care of Linda, She is one of God's very Special Ones!

I think I first heard then just after I was discharged from the Army, it was getting cold back in Detroit. It's haunted me ever since. Music like this comes by but once.

This is one of those emotional songs that makes you think about love you once had but lost. After sharing my all and all with that special person of #25years the love had died and I looked for her one hot summer day and suddenly she was gone after drowning in my tears and all of my sorrows I would play this song and try to find some closure & healing because she just never ever came back to me .

First heard this amazing track in the great movie "Without Limits" in 1998 which was based on the life of Steve Prefontaine. If no one has ever seen this movie I highly recommend it.
