Tucked away in the mountains of Glacier National Park is a natural spectacle that makes you look twice. With a silky blue color that illuminates under the sun, Cracker Lake is one of the park's most magnificent marvels.
Welcome to Cracker Lake. This is one of my favorite places in the world because every time I see it I'm in complete disbelief that it's real.
This 12 mile out-and-back trail hike starts in Many Glacier and winds its way through forests, creeks, and alpine meadows. Open only during a short window of the year, this semi-popular hike is also a horse backing riding destination. An abundance of wildlife can be found here including moose, marmots, and grizzly bears -- which is why it's important to pack bear spray with you if you decide to hike in this area.
Every time I visit the lake it's a slightly different shade of blue. Sometimes it's a minty green, other times its a milky blue. The lakes gets it's unique color from glacier flour (silt) that flows into the lake from the surrounding mountains, and depending on the drainage rate each season the lake can vary in color.
Enjoy this adventure vlog as I take my friend, Myah, to see Cracker Lake for the very first time. Together we'll be driving from Apgar hyper early and starting the hike just after sunrise.
Please note that accessing Many Glacier (East Glacier Park) now requires a vehicle reservation. To find out more information and receive your entry ticket, visit this website: www.recreation.gov/timed-entr...
