Former pro here. Mesh toe all day for patches or you don’t know what your doing, especially ceiling. If you have fresh board than go with paper but mesh is the answer for patches except in angles.

@Grizzleback07
@Grizzleback07 2 жыл бұрын
@@jeremiahburkins5027 The mesh will not provide a smooth crease for feathering the mud to make a clean line. Think of vaulted ceilings with 45 degree angles. The mesh would not hold a sharp angle for a straight line that is pleasing on the eye.

A lot of people don’t know that when drywall was becoming popular using a damp sponge while it’s wet was the intended method. Not sanding after trying to get it perfect. Also yeah the mesh tape is solid, people who say it cracks every time don’t know what they’re doing/talking about. As well as people who say matching texture will always show.. can be done, pretty easily too if it’s a texture that’s somewhat common..

1 thing I like to do is grab a sander and knock down that texture around the patch. Especially there the tape lays. It makes it blend in smoother, easier to sand, and your knife won't make ripples dragging over the texture.

I had this done to my ceiling by some contractors. It's pretty good, but there are minor uneven spots with the plaster. You can't really notice it at all in normal lighting settings, but when I put a flashlight alongside the ceiling, you can really see the bumps and where they plastered. Is this to be expected? I can send you a video if you'd like...
