It was far more than this. Happiness has always been more than just hedonism but its pursuit must entail pleasure and some semblance of civil rights as well as responsibilities. It’s is not a clear cut moralism. It’s not only Marcus Aurelius but Diogenes and Dionysus. Not only reason but liberation, order but revolution.

No one ever said they were perfect. Hence the reason Jefferson said "right to the pursuit of happiness." Key word is pursuit.

Jesse Watters speaking of the founding fathers concept of virtue, while worshipping Donald Trump is beyond absurd. I hope your book sells, probably close to zero of his viewers have any understanding of the life and work of Marcus Aurelius.
