Hells Kitchen - ITV 1 Technical Problems

Its 9th September 2007, just after 9pm and Hell's Kitchen has just started. Angus Deaton is about to start the show when.... nothing. The screen goes black until ITV 1 jump in and apologise, apologise and apologise again.
This video also includes the second link of the programme where Angus Deaton apologises for the break down. This is the only reference to the break down made in the programme.
The music played over the ITV1 slide is Signs by Dan Gautreau.

I think the reason she's apologising so much is because new people tuning in won't quite know exactly what's going on. I mean, sure, it's obvious that it's a break in the programming and usually that means a technical difficulty - but that's not for certain. Programming is interrupted when big events happen too (see the death of Princess Diana or the 7/7 bombings) and reassuring people that it's just your bog standard hiccup is reassuring. Even then, sometimes the 'technical difficulty' is... well, not technical. See 1987 when a fire at the BBC required them to cancel the news that was supposed to be on that day (and play it later in the day once the all-clear was sounded and people could return to work). Or she could simply have been told to make that many announcements. We just don't know.

SOSOwner [NO LONGER ACTIVE] No it's pretty much always been live far as I'm aware. The clip is up on KZfaq somewhere, and the poor announcer for the clip sounds so very nervous as he's telling people what happened!

Well I remember when I was on holiday in America with my family back in 2001 (I was like about 1 at the time) when 911 World Trade Center crash happened I was in Los Angeles at the time and I remember watching cbs at then the whole screen went black and it kinda scared me and then it just said we were sorry over 13 times

It's rare to see any more technical issues here in America on TV, but the ones you can find on ITV on YoutTube from only a few years back are a dime a dozen!

This happened in the STV region ITV & Channel TV but did not affect UTV as they where showing CORONATION STREET at the time this happened.

You can always repair it if you have a spare fuse. I once fixed a plug for my pc by taking the fuse from my TV and putting it in the pc plug. It worked.

I remember being in the caravan when I was ten and I remember the channel being on ITV1 and the announcer keeps apologising every 5 minutes which was eventually beginning to annoy me.

@jeffrey44 The last issue I saw with a major network was with FOX during The Simpsons in the late 90s. I'm sure there might have been a few more issues -- but I have been watching the ITV ones closely and a lot of them are due to power failure issues. Perhaps that could be it? Maybe the backup power equipment has improved now.

I remember this, I was in a hotel room watching it then all of a sudden this came on.I remember one time something similar happened a few years ago on cartoon network,it was deliberate though,It was for rememberence day,the screen went black the an ident with writing on it saying something along the lines of,"the 1 minute silence is happening and we want to look important",it creeped me out like most of these things,one question,Did you edit the music over the ident or was it already there?

I was also in a hotel room iswell when this happened I was on an overnight trip in London (I was in like year 3 or something) we just got back from a pantomime and I was in the hotel room with my friends and we were all just sat on a king sized bed and then when it broke down we were all just sat there staring at it for 7 minutes straight

It was a street light type ident let me picture this it’s when you do out with your bicycle at night and there’s beautiful butterflies and street lights are on and I think itv 1 logo are supposed to resemble the yellow butterflies now that’s a theory on my end I’m not really sure

Seeing this really pisses me off! You just get a picture of... whatever that is that is in the logo there, but 10 years previous, I would have seen the granada logo, others meridian, anglia, central, etc. Possibly even the generic 1989 logo, which still looked better than chavtvs logo today.

I remember this I was on an overnight trip in primary I was in year 3 or something we just came back from a pantomime and I was in a hotel room with some of my friends and we were making drinks of Pepsi and eating and we were all sat on the same bed just chilling and then when it broke down we all just stopped what we were doing and just looked at the telly and just thought: wtf happened?
