This is our first time hearing Jelly Roll, and I guess you could say he's had a big impact. This song made Jeremy cry!! You can tell Jelly Roll has a tortured past through the lyrics and soul in his voice. So powerful. Loved it.

A detail in the song that I tend to fixate on is that he only says "Save me" one time. It's the song title, but he only says it one time in the entire song. Instead, he spends the rest of the song explaining that he's not good enough to save. That is more relatable than addiction and recovery. That's a piece that nearly everyone can relate to, I think.

That was me 25 yrs ago ...half a fifth of bourbon and moonshine shots as I watched my 3 young daughters get on the bus. A failed mom, drunk, at 7am. I passed out and started drinking again when I woke. I never best my kids but I sure neglected them. My oldest at 11 cared for my youngest 5 and 6. In my room the little ones brought me milk and asked, Mama drink this not that stuff. I fought with all of my will, my will that had me so lost, not to say my next words...I don't drink that bc I'm an alcoholic. I knew I had to do something. I called AA the next morning and I've never looked back. I came to believe in a Higher Power. Today I know what real joy bc I came up from such sorrow. My girls are in their 30s now. Yes....Somebody saved me....with a little glass of milk. I love this song...

@@juliecrane9647my demons were opioids, cocaine, drinking and fighting. I grew up in an environment nothing short of hell. My mom and dad were both addicts (dad was also an alcoholic) and my step dad was a drinker but i wouldn't call him an alcoholic. All three beat me mercilessly breaking bones on multiple occasions and my mom used to whip me with a straightened out metal coat hanger until i bled from which i still bear the scars on my back and thighs now as a 27 year old man and my palms are scared from where she would stick my hand on a red hot stove element as punishment for the slightest wrong doing, she also regularly starved me and there were some months i only survived on dog food. But that wasn't the worst of it, my older brother was also an opioid addict and extremely mentally ill, he beat me even worse than my parents but worst of all was the sexual abuse, trigger warning here for sexual assault survivors my choice of words may bother you, but he raped me more times than i can count from ages at least 4 (my earliest memory is of him raping me and i was 4 years old at the time so it's possible it started sooner) to about 13 when i finally got big enough to fight him off. It happened at least once a week, sometimes more than once for several days in a row. He was so violent that on one occasion he beat me into a coma and had been so violent in his sexual assault he ruptured my colon, i still live with pain there to this day. At 14 i moved out on my own and quickly spiraled into substance abuse and fighting and a life of crime to support the habit, the drugs made me feel good and the fighting made me feel like i had a sense of control again, i was doing back yard brawls on a near weekly basis and a lot of the time i let them beat me up a lot more than they would if i had tried because part of me felt like i deserved the pain from all the repressed guilt, shame, and mental torment i was going through that i just wasn't dealing with. All of that changed one night when a guy picked a fight with me at a party and made a movement really similar to my older brother when he would assault me and my ptsd went into full swing and i beat that poor man so badly i broke his orbital bone, nose and jaw in several places. He needed 9 reconstructive surgeries to appear somewhat normal after what i did to him. And that was the wake up call i needed. I spent about a year in custody waiting for trial where i saw horrific things but when i got to court for some unknown reason the judge saw something that made him decide not to lock me up even though truthfully i deserved it and he gave me a second chance with a conditioned release. I was 18 at the time. I've been clean and sober ever since and haven't so much as gotten a speeding ticket in that time let alone the crimes i was committing. I feel constant guilt for what i did and if i could trade places with him i would in a second, but i can't and i have to live with it. I can't say i'm at peace, but i'm not hurting anyone anymore and that's enough for me. I'm proud of you for what you've achieved, and i hope your kids have come to understand what happened and why. Best of luck in life.

Trust me Country singers have their fair share of bad boys. One of the iconic stars Johnny Cash, while he never went to prison, did spend his fair share of time viewing the the world from the wrong side of steel bars. It seems like the more troubled your life, the more soul you have in your voice. Music can add impact to an emotional song, but combine music with personal experience, and life's truths are magnified. What I appreciate about Eric Anderson's story is that he pulls no punches about the Hell he lived and yet turned himself around to not just a successful productive adult but also tries to make the world around him into a better place. He also proves just by his existence that no one has to accept failure. His voice says it all. 🙂

4:01 this humming is a sound that makes me cry. I have a 6 year old daughter who was born with down syndrome who was none verbal never heard her make a sound unless she was hurt when this song came out she was obsessed I had it on repeat pretty soon she started making noises than she started trying to hum along with jelly. Now 3 years later she now does talk and uses a couple words. It all started with Jelly Roll if it wasn't for this song I don't know if I would have ever got to hear my daughter talk. I wish I could meet jelly just once so I could thank him for giving my daughter her voice

Brother, let the tears flow. I've cried to this song countless times. I often listen to this song and remember when I hit rock bottom after the military. After a failed marriage, and heavy drinking, I thought about something I never thought I would do. I was there. By fate, I met my current wife. She gave me hope, and a beautiful daughter. She saved my life. I owe her everything. We all have demons. There are people out there that want to help. Do not take the easy way out, like I was going to. Just talk to someone. We care. 🙏

Jelly sings Therapeutic Music. He sings for the Lost and the Broken. I heard this during Covid. I got the shivers and burst into tears. I’ve watched every reaction to this song. Please check out his Only/Love the Heartless Live. It’s another special Jelly performance. Jelly started as a rapper. He’s done a bunch of albums with Struggle Jennings that are more country oriented, Waylon n Willie. He does it all and has finally started getting the flowers he deserves. Some others are Same A..hole, Smoking Section, Creature. Hope you continue the Jelly Roll journey ❤

He rerecorded this as a duet with a country gal named Lainey Wilson & it's pretty amazing too. I also live Jelly Rolls, 'Son of a sinner' & 'Need a favor' is super powerful. Especially with the video. You are right about his background He was in a gang as a teen& ended up in jail for 5 years. Came out a 23 & started rapping. I was not familiar with him until the country community embraced him. He says he knows who his audience is & who he is writing for.

The thing that got me with Jelly Roll is that he means what he says in all of his songs. That's what got me with him. Thank you guys for reacting to him. He's from Nashville and I think after his jail time, he started to believe in himself a bit more, but he's still working on himself. The next one I requested will be more gangster and a lot more controversial, but it's my favorite song from him. PS I can't do this song in the car. It would be a road hazard if I did. Way too personal. Love you guys and thanks for honoring my request.

J&J - Whew!!!! This was a kin to having the worst nightmare of your life and waking up and realizing it is real... He definitely sings from his pain in the past. Although his "ship" has righted itself, you never forget the sting and pains of the past in utter hopelessness and sorrow. It stays for a long long time. Like they say... "You can get "through" it but you never completely get "over" it." I appreciate and love you guys - and Jeremy, thanks for your tenderness - as guys, we try to act tough but it's our better halves that tend to be our "Rock" as Jillian certainly (IMHO) is your Rock. Jelly Roll was someone I would never have listened to had it not been for a favorite reactor (y’all do something important) and I have been so touched by the song. To me, this song has no genre. I have no idea if it relates, but Jelly Roll Morton was like the godfather of jazz blues back in 1902. (Typing research papers for someone studying for his masters and doctorate degrees in music teaches one all sorts of trivia!) Thanks Jeremy and Jillian! And, it’s okay to tear up when something touches your soul.

I absolutely love this song. I can listen to it all day long. Sometimes I cry hearing it bc I know jellyroll has lived through hard times. He’s living his best days right now. I just watched about an hour long podcast with him and I forget who. But it was the best podcast I’ve ever listened to.

I'm dealing with 3 kids that are recovering addicts ages 49, 37, 31, and I feel all of that empathy I lose about 4 hrs of sleep a night. It's really tough. Great reaction. Real men cry

The first time I heard this song I cried like a baby because it felt like it was written about my life.I feel unworthy of love because my ex wife not only divorced me but she crushed my very soul.I can’t trust anyone anymore.

That delay reminds me of a story I heard about Bob Marley. That he was digging through an old studio and found a delay machine. It would record on tape, then play it back almost immediately. He applied that to his guitar and that created modern Reggae.

Everytime I first heard this song I think about my life, then I recognize over time, he is talking about Bunny. They were both so far gone in the debauchery in life, that he believed he wasn't good enough for anyone.

I myself am a very strong empath person. My time with the Highway Patrol was like living in hell. The things I saw still wake me in the middle of the night. I still work grave shift so am only home a few nights. My wife is so awesome. On my nights off when we get to sleep together she helps me through when I wake up sweating and screaming at the demons that haunt me.

Hello I just subscribed and this is my first video I watch from y’all. Jelly Roll is one of my favs and love all of his different music. As far as country gangsta they have been plenty of country rappers. Give my homeboy John Brodnax a listen. He actually has a song called Gangsta but I love all of his music/songs as well. They have plenty out there like Adam Calhoun, Ryan Upchurch. Demun Jones, etc. Y’all will be very shocked, trust me!
