Everyone had their personalities exaggerated for comical effect. It's like how Yogi Bear was always obsessed with food, but never to the point where he ate people.

Their just exagerating the fact that they always seem together, him being over protective isnt such a far off conclusion from the original. It doesnt have to do with gender.

It’s funny yet sad seeing people get so upset over certain HB characters being female. Like, they take it way too seriously.

I think my only issue is that, with some of the gender swapped characters, they don't keep the original unique voices they had with them, and replace it with a generic voice instead. Like, for example, Jabberjaw had this unique voice to himself (though, it could get grating), but now the new Jabberjaw just sounds like a generic, sassy woman. I wouldn't have minded this, but they go out of their way to keep a bunch of other characters' voices the same or similar to their original counterparts. Yogi's voice is similar, Boo Boo's is similar, Huckleberry Hound is nearly identical, hell, even Doggie Daddy's is almost spot on. If the voice actress tried to do something a bit more similar to the original voice of Jabberjaw, I would be fine with it.

@@Mr.Cynical There was literally nothing “Original or Unique “ about Jabbers voice , it was just an impression of Curly from the three stooges ( just like how other Hb voices are impressions of celebrities popular at the time) , so the whole thing about her voice being change from that isn’t something that really bothers me .

Just wait guys, the fans that aren't really feeling it with Jellystone, or don't like it would PROBABLY end up liking it when revisiting it after it ends someday like how the Looney Tune Show wasn't considered popular then all of a sudden and without warning, it's considered the best modern LT show in the world. Yeah, its weird. I bet half of the people complaining have never seen the original series. I haven't and I am liking the show so far.

A lot of us grew up with these characters, so it makes sense why we feel some sort of deep association with them. I remember when Cartoon Network first came on the air and, at the time, to actually watch these shows on an all cartoon channel was revolutionary. That said, the cartoon network fanbase fractured with the introduction of new cartoons (cow and chicken, dexter's lab, and ppg), because some fans honestly thought that cartoon network was meant to be the Turner Classic Movies of animation. The gender swaps, though, don't really matter for me, but my issue is that changing the gender isn't really fresh anymore (adventure time did it 9 years ago). I mean, Jabberjaw being female is fine, but what else is there that makes the character stand-out. There needs to be something more and I truly hope they will do more with the character in upcoming seasons.

@@Rocky-gs6mb My issue is that people take these gender flips to seriously. Like, I get that some of you grew up with these characters but are you really gonna act surprised when something of a reboot does this? This is the new norm and its not really gonna change anytime soon. You can hate it but it is what it is. Also, new kids watching this won't appreciate the older stuff and honestly that is fine. This is more directed to them than people who previously watched these shows. The creator of this new show is giving new life to characters that might have been forgotten.

Gender flips matter when a lot from the originals can get lost in adaptation for other markets (Coff coff latinamerica!) when the work of voice actors who helped build up the characters loved by many and kept alive decades latter in the ziegist (like top cat) is at risk to be lost... It kind of puts you off you know?

But this take on the character is also entertaining

I think Greenblatt reimagined him as a small adult then if that's what the wiki says- but then again I kind of thought BooBoo was a cub too, but also could see him as like a small adult. Since a cub shouldn't have that deep of a voice.

He'd ask yogi a lot of questions and there was a lot of things he was confused about. It's another one of the reasons why I believe he's a cub. I mean, there is a chance that he was just a small adult, but if that was the case they kinda showed that in a confusing way

They changed the genders to some characters, it also happened to Jabberjaw, Squiddly and some more I think

if you want all the characters to be written the exact way they used to be why not just watch the originals. id rather see them try new things than hash old concepts over and over again, even if it doesn't "hit" every single time at least it's something new

That's honestly valid. I can't say I'm really attached to Augie since I barely remember ther og show, but I'm personally all for the interpretation as it's still funny to me and keeps the general theme I barely remember from my childhood. It's not 1:1 but I hardly expected that. I prefer the gender swapping over forcing new female characters and they didn't swap characters who's "core" centered around them being dudes. Imagine a doggy daddy turned doggy mommy or top cat being cat called instead. Not to say these are bad ideas to try one day, but the characters they did swap aren't too different from their og genders...which makes sense if the idea is to make boy and girl viewers feel equally as included.

@@31emanual Point well made... My personal opinion though, I think they could've at least brought the underrated female characters in and was given a modernized make over. Desert Flower I would've LOVED to see in this show! She only appeared in The Good, The Bad and Huckleberry Hound tv movie, but she's one of my fave "Obscure" H-B characters! Plus, having a character with a nationality or historical background would be a good thing. In the tv movie, D.F. is from a native American tribe, and we don't see a lot of characters with those backgrounds in cartoons now. In fact, I only remember seeing an episode of Pepper Ann that touched on the subject of native Americans.

@@CooperGal24 that would be a pretty cool reference to add in. I assume they wanted to try to use more recognizable characters, but obscure characters as mainstays would be nice. Hopefully they add more as more seasons crank out

Here is a other part of my theory I think doggie daddy is mrs mayberry husband and before mrs mayberry and doggie daddy die they have auggie but she die at a car accident and when he die he went to heaven and meet auggie again

They are in THIS series. The creators wanted to have a more diverse cast so they gender flipped some of the male characters. But If that is something you can’t overlook, don’t worry, this does not erase the older shows. You are still free to Watch the classic cartoons whenever you want. This is just the animators doing something new with something old.

Think of this as an alternative universe, like how Harvey Birdman was.

I believe the reason for the gender change is so there can be more balance. Doesn't help that 90% of the Hannah barbara characters are dudes. While the personalities are different for some of the characters, id say it still fits for what the show is supposed to be: a simplified, goofy reimagining for kids. Changes had to be made so that the characters could better fit the show. The changes don't really matter to me as the characters are funny, engaging, and still have some core aspects of their original selves.

How does it change it whatsoever? Jabberjaw is still a helpless dumbass even now that she’s a trans woman No respect I say I ain’t got no respect!
