I'm pretty sure I've never seen another KZfaq video in which someone said the word "lair" so many times, and the best part is that Jen doesn't say it mockingly. She genuinely enjoys the tropes and uses the lingo unironically. Never lose that sincerity, Jen. It's one of things I love best about you.

The icing on the cake is having the villain lair stormed by an army of ninjas.

Blofeld is still my favourite Bond villain. I loved how excited you were to finally see him and always gotta love the lairs.

OHMSS is one of the best Bond movies. Some hate Lazenby. But he was good for a first and only time out. But its an amazing movie!

This is widely considered the movie that introduced ninjas to western audiences. I don’t think Jen recognized Blofeld as the same actor as the doctor from Halloween. Next movie is one of the true greats of the franchise. Can’t wait!

I love the fight between Connery and Peter Maivia (a couch to the chest?). Who would have thought back in 1967 that the henchman's grandson would grow up to become The Rock? So cool and I just watched "Jumanji" again last weekend. Another great post, Jen. Cheers.

This was my favorite Bond film when I was a kid. My dad loved to quote the "You have a lot of energy for a dead man, Mr. Bond," line. Lol

The cat is actually Mr. Bigglesworth as a youth with long hair, it was a 60’s thing. He had a long career as a villain’s cat

You must watch the whole franchise! Your enthusiasm for them is contagious, and even though I have seen these multiple times over the past few decades, seeing them through your eyes is a joy anew. 😂

Ken Adam was the set designer, he was a genius. He would have made a fantastic Architect.

This theme song, as performed here by Nancy Sinatra, was the anthem of the men of the Silent Generation who were approaching middle-age when it came out. You couldn't have a more perfect metaphor for midlife crisis and longing for a new start. (It was used to great effect in a crucial episode of Mad Men.) (When Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows was published, I was astonished at how well it tracked the lyrics to this song.) My entire adult life, if I was petting my cat in my lap, I'd find someone to stare at, and then, in my best imitation of Donald Pleasance, say, "This organization does not tolerate failure."

Donald Pleasence who played Blofeld was a great actor and one of the greatest bond villains ever killing helga brandt aka no.11 in that piranha scene was ruthless and shocked me when i first saw this film many years ago.

Mr. Henderson (Charles Gray) is the narrator (The Criminologist - An Expert) in The Rocky Horror Picture Show and also plays Blofeld in Diamonds Are Forever. The "Chinese girl" at the beginning of the film was played by Tsai Chin who was the mother Lindo in the Joy Luck Club among many other roles.

On Her Majesty's Secret Service is my personal favorite Bond film so YES! I can't wait for you to watch it.

The volcano set costed as much as the entire budget for Dr. No. At the time this fact was cited as a prediction the franchise would continue indefinitely, though nobody probably realized actually how long. Several props were tried for the miniatures used for the space scenes. They settled for a salt shaker to represent the shuttle. During filming the Little Nellie scene, cameraman John Jordan lost his foot when he got too close to one of the SPECTRE helicopters. A conference for surgeons happened to be taking place nearby and he had the best care possible for the day. He went on to return to film, including On Her Majesty's Secret Service, before passing away a few years later. Albert Broccoli and Ken Adams were extremely lucky on this film, and not just it's success. On return from a location scout, they changed their flight. The plane they were originally scheduled for crashed with no survivors.

"On Her Majesty's Secret Service" is one of the greatest Bond films. George Lazenby does an excellent job as James Bond. But Sean Connery was the definitive 007. You will love it.

The next one, the 1969 "on her majesty's secret service" has a special place in my heart, and i consider it one of the most interesting ones.

Charles Grey who played Henderson later played Spectre head villain Ernst Stravos Blofeld in Diamonds Are Forever in 1971. Donald Pleasence Blofeld in this film later played Dr Loomis in Halloween in 1978 and several sequels.

You’ve become my favorite when it comes to someone watching Bond movies

Jen, the set design for this (and a lot of the other earlier Bond movies) was made by Ken Adams, also known for "the war room" design in Dr. Strangelove. He is an absolute master of his craft.

You won’t see Bond in space for about 12 years after this movie but in Moonraker he finally goes.

Aaah, You Only Live Twice. Probably my favourite Bond movie. I went to a lecture back in the 1980's given by Wing Cmdr Ken Wallis. He talked about Little Nellie and his involvement in the making of the movie and showed a film about her.

"Doctor Evil" is Donald Pleasence with Lorne Michael's voice. "Yes, it's a 'lair' built in a volcano filled with hot MAG MA, but is it funny?"

This movie was remade 10 years later as The Spy Who Loved Me with Lewis Gilbert directing both films, they just substituted a submarine swallowing oil tanker for a space capsule swallowing other space capsules.

I remember seeing this movie in a theater when it first came out. I enjoy watching Jen watch these Bond movies more.

For all you Robbie William fans, this is the film where his song *Millennium* sampled the theme tune from. And the plot of this movie gets remake twice in the Bond series, but with different villains with different motives.

I think this soundstage is still one of the very largest in the world - it's called "the 007 stage" On your Bond journey, you will be seeing lots of massive villain's lairs - all filmed on this huge soundstage. In this one, they built a functioning monorail! And the white cat got scared when a bullet squib went off - it jumped out of "Blofeld"'s arms and was never seen again. Even though they looked and looked, the set was so massive that they had no chance of finding the cat - they had to get another one.

the lair of the novel was thought with poisonous flowers to avoid unwanted visitors but Sir Ken Adams did a great job with it!

with this movie you also have the apex of one of my favorite tropes: The BPS trope Think for a minute about villains in movies and tv and how many of them are Bald, Pale, or Scarred (this includes amputees, wheelchairs and other disabilities). There's a lot. Blofeld is all three as well a being indistinctly European. Of course after Austin Powers every time I see him I keep waiting for Blofled to give someone the extended "Riiiight"

This was my first Bond movie! I was 6 years old 36 years ago! The movie with all those gadgets and space craft totally flashed me away and set me up to fell in love with the Bond franchise for the rest of my life! 😍

On Her Majesty's Secret Service is a must-see, I rate it even higher than Connery's brief return in Diamonds Are Forever.

Giveaways that there’s a supervillain about : the sale of a volcano; an order for a monorail; an order for a few dozen lots of scuba diving gear. I was about 7 years old when I saw Diamonds Are Forever during its theatrical release. In a theatre that had a screen they put up when the stage wasn’t being used for plays.

It's always nice to see young people appreciate my favorite James Bond. I'll be curious to see your reaction to some of the other Bonds that picked up the mantle after Sean Connery.

There was a very close call that almost got the film cancelled and the entire franchise ended. Producers Albert Broccoli and Harry Saltzman, set designer Ken Adam, screen writer and director Sir Lewis Gilbert and cinematographer Freddie Young went scouting Japan and were due to next fly to Hong Kong, but cancelled at the last minute to watch a ninja demonstration. Just as well that they did because the plane they were supposed to be flying on crashed near Mt. Fuji due to turbulence, killing everyone onboard.

When I first saw this movie, I recognized Roald Dahl (he wrote Charlie & The Chocolate Factory / James & The Giant Peach) in the credits for screenplay

On her majesty's secret service is the single most important movie to Bond continuity that there is. Even the final Craig movie makes references to it.

Well Done Jen! You have made it to George Lazenby lone Bond movie. It wasn’t successful in the 60’s but fans today usually rank it as one of the best. Remember we have all the time in the world!

As a big Bond franchise fan, I’m glad to see you doing this series, and I hope you continue with it. I think you’ll find it interesting how the movies evolve, along with the different actors who play 007. Yes, some of the movies aren’t as good as others (that goes for the various Bond actors, as well) but imho, I don’t think there’s a one that I would classify as unwatchable. And if you want to see Bond actually go into space, just wait till you get to the Roger Moore era. Incidentally, “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service” follows the plot of the original novel the most closely of all the films… and speaking of the original novels, I encourage you to give them a try, as well. They really give you a true sense of what the Bond character is all about that you can’t completely get from the films… and they’re not long, or difficult reads. Cheers! While filming the helicopter fight over the volcano, cameraman John Jordan was leaning out of a helicopter to get a shot. Another helicopter got too close and its rotor cut his leg which had to be amputated. Three years later he was filming "Catch 22" and was sucked out of the door of the camera plane and fell to his death. He preferred not to wear a safety harness when getting his aerial shots and his mobility was impaired by his prosthetic leg.

Love the theme song from Nancy Sinatra, I'd say the best along with Sheryl Crow "Tomorrow Never Dies" and of course "Live and Let Die." "James Bond's wedding, I never thought I'd see the day", lol. Stay tuned Jen.

They did the 'stopping the countdown at 007' joke in 'Goldfinger'. I think it was a little soon to do it again.

Although judging from your own secret lair with the fireplace and cat, perhaps you wish instead to be a Bond villain, plotting world domination. To answer your question about the magnet, yes, electro magnets have existed for a long time.

Henderson did get the drink wrong but Bond, being a gentleman, was polite and didn't correct his host.

This was Sean Connery’s first time he left the series and George Lazenby replaced him to star in his only James Bond film On Her Majestys Secret Service before Connery returned for Diamonds Are Forever and left for the final time from Eon Productions produced films. Connery was then replaced by Roger Moore in 1972 for his debut film in Live and Let Die.

You must watch the next one, it’s one of the best Bond films, but sadly Lazenby only did the one Bond film.

Little Nellie is arguably the best vehicle/gadget ever made for the Bond movies and flies every bit as good as it is depicted in this movie and it had performed on many real life expos.

I did promise you you'd get a Blofeld face reveal and an awesome lair in this one. Knew you'd enjoy it! Also, bit of trivia: the volcano lair set alone cost as much to make as the ENTIRE first film! Really looking forward to what you think of "Majesty's". Without spoiling anything, it's a much more serious take on Bond and has recently been given a "reevaluation" of sorts and most Bondians consider it one of the best in the series.
