In this world, in all additive color theory. Light waves add up to make colors, and if you add all of them you wind up with white. Your computer monitor, for example, has its own light sources and is therefore additive, so anything yellow you seen on screen is produced by your monitor mixing (adding) red and green waves of light! Alas, pigments work based on subtractive color theory...if you mix all of the colors of ink or dye, you absorb all the light and wind up with black. Yellow pigment looks yellow because it has absorbed (subtracted) all of the blue light and only reflects the red and green to your eyes. #themoreyouknow

@@alenaleinauer367 There's some really fascinating math behind this, but the simplification I made in the comment above was to exclude luminance. In additive color theory, you can get "brown" from red or orange + green, but only when luminance is low. When luminance is high, red or orange + green makes various shades of yellow. That tells us that what we interpret as "brown" is not actually a color, but rather an absence of luminance. This is true regardless of whether we are talking additive theory or subtractive. In additive theory, we remove luminance from yellow to get brown. In subtractive theory we mix colors that imperfectly absorb most wavelengths, and get a non-luminous resulting "color" that we also call "brown". Regardless of which theory we use, the physics behind the colors is the same. :)
