You could tell she came from a "Church" background, because she sang with such conviction and feeling. This was no act. She put all of her heart and soul into the song, as if she sang from experience. A vocal powerhouse! One of the best performances I've ever seen.

Two other now legendary actresses, Sheryl Lee Ralph as Deena and Loretta Devine as Lorelle, also in the initial segment, but Jennifer did this performance multiple times a day, several days a week, for years with that level of conviction. Amazing.
