This was one of the most unapologetically authentic black performances and possibly her best performance ever. What a powerhouse of a voice and with such an ease of control. And the audacity of her to pour all of that out onto us and then come back like you didn’t just THAT! 😳🤯 what a beautiful way to show respect and pay homage to another legend.

Is that losing? We need to recognize God granting us a closed door of a shack to make way for a mansion! That's in our careers, relationships and everything else. This was the funeral of the songstresses I had admired during her active years. Jennifer gave her a beautiful send off. I followed Arethas songs since during the 1980's. The best song I loved was " Bridge over troubled water" Thank you Jennifer for your wonderful voice.

Slaves were torn from their families and brought here and stripped of their names, religion, culture, and language. Yet, through hymns they not only prayed and praised God, but to send secret messages to each other they learned to communicate through song and instruments. So, don't blame the gospel of these hymns for keeping humans in bondage, blame the men that put them there.

So moving voice of a angel. My first time I heard gospel was around 1965 in Toronto Canada as a 10 old white kid. I brought at album at a yard sale by The Edwin Hawkins Singers from the money I got from collecting pop bottles. Didn't have a clue who they where back then. Got home played the album and was so moved to hear OH HAPPY DAY . Ever since then I've loved gospel music to this day I always play the The Staple Singers and love the version of OH Happy Day by Aretha Franklin and Mavis Staple.

Growing up southern Baptist it still amazes me how absolutely strong this music and more specifically this song brings the spirit to the person hearing it! Amen. I'm someone that grew up in the Southern Baptist church too. Over the years my faith and walk with God has been challenged, but every time I hear this song my body never ceases to be filled with the Holy Spirit. It's an out of the this world supernatural feeling. There's no other music in the world that brings tears to my eyes and sends goosebumps throughout my soul like Gospel music.

Everything about her attire and the way she’s singing the song is the way CHICAGO Baptist do it. Most of our stuff is derived from Mississippi southern Baptist churches our great & great grand parents brought here with them on their search for jobs n a better life for their families. Homage is paid to the south, but this is definitely Chicago style, here.
