Jennifer Lopez is in the midst of a major career moment - the release of her album “This is Me … Now" and its complementary musical film, “This is Me … Now: A Love Story," not to mention the Amazon Prime documentary “The Greatest Love Story Never Told." It follows her reuniting with now-husband Ben Affleck after decades apart.
“This was going to be the quintessential thing I have been searching for and wanted to say about love," Lopez told USA TODAY earlier this year. "I’ve been on this search for so long, since people first met me and my first record came out and even before that in my first movie role, where I’ve been on this journey trying to figure this thing out for myself. This (album) kind of closed the loop in a way,” Lopez says. “It captures this moment to really say the things I want to say about love, and that is that true love does exist and some things are forever. Please don’t give up on that because that’s all that matters in life … love.”

I saw MC in concert in December. Absolutely horrible and a complete ripoff. Concert lasted just over an hour. She sang a total of five songs and talked the rest of the time. She doesn’t dance, she barely moves, she looks ABSURD riding around stage in a sled. ABD she lip syncs a lot. She cleverly sings some but uses playback in other parts. Complete RIPOFF.

Lets be so real, if Beyonce or Taylor Swift had pitched a visual album movie thing to streaming services, they'd be fighting each other to get the rights. I have a weird fascination with J. Lo because she's the only celebrity I can think of in my entire lifetime who has amassed as much fame and longevity as she has while seemingly *never* being liked. She never got re-evaluated for her talents and contributions to popular culture later on like Britney Spears or Amy Winehouse, but she never really faded into irrelevance either like most of her contemporaries from the 90's/early 2000's. She didn't even have a career-ending scandal that you can point to as the ending point. But even at her absolute peak, it was not cool to say you liked J. Lo and she's been an easy punching bag for as long as I can remember. Over 20 years later and her reputation has not recovered and she's just as widely despised as ever, but she's still a household name who gets booked for projects and is uplifted by Hollywood. Give her this, she is nothing if not determined to keep going

People keep saying that celebrities should stop trying to be relatable since they’re so obviously not. J. Lo seems to be at a crossroads because while she did have a modest upbringing and fought tooth and nail for years to make her dreams of fame and fortune come true, she lost touch with reality and no longer has any idea of how to relate to the common man. Seems like she can’t decide whether to just fully embrace being a super wealthy and out-of-touch Hollywood elite a la Gwyneth Paltrow, or try maintaining her roots and remaining a somewhat down-to-earth figurehead like Adele or even Shakira. She tries doing both, but fails, so she comes off as a self-absorbed megalomaniac who has, ironically, forgot where she came from without the camp of a Gwyneth or a Mariah, which widdles down her appeal to basically no one

Plus, when most artists make a song about their home town, it’s about how great their home town is, or how much they love it despite its problems, or something that pays tribute to their home town. This was a song about her home town that talked about how great SHE is. It paid tribute to her. As an Australian (by that I mean myself), it’s very distasteful to talk about your own greatness like that. So yes, I too was struck by how the song was essentially Jlo name-dropping her hometown to brag about her greatness, and ironically, her humility. Could I word it like that back then? Ham and cheese on a role and an orange drink is a totally believable bodega order from the 80s. Orange drink could mean an orange quarter water, a Hi C, or a sunny D. Back then a lot of places only had one of those. If you said orange drink they knew what you meant and depending where you were you'd get one of those three. And it was fine because you just wanted an orange flavored drink. Idk why people think the ham and cheese is weird. I've ordered that myself usually with dijon mustard.

Im a little younger thsn jlo and her Bodega order exists. The fact that people are making a huge deal out of this proves many things and its a wee bit pathetic. Collectively the internet has literally birthed a generation of bullies. She grew up in the bronx, she lived there and she left. Like many many celebrities from New York. She has always came off as a proud Puerto Rican or Nuyorican(depending who you ask). Being bothered because she went to catholic school and somehow negates her Bronx connection (if given the choice trust, most Puerto Rican parents in NY would rather send their kids there). She never said she was from the hood, that she ran the streets. I think she unfortunately feels very slighted by the media and critics and she carries it on her shoulder. And not having a mean fanbase with a name doesnt mean she doesnt have fans. This is all so dumb.

What I noticed that I don’t see a lot of people talking about is JLo has an acting voice. It’s slightly different from her speaking voice. I only realized it in the last couple years but realized she’s had this fake acting voice all throughout her career. This is probably one of the unconscious reasons people think she’s a bad actress because she does this voice. She also does this whisper thing when her characters are upset and she’s trying to convey emotions. And emotion to her means to speak and whisper. And she’s done it in a lot of her films. Shes essentially playing the same character a lot the time because she sticks to the same traits and speaking inflections . So to watch that movie that’s all about her and her story that wasn’t profound or displayed any new information that you didn’t already pick up from the blogs or tabloids and everyone in the movie is on the same acting level as her made it horrible to watch.

I've enjoyed these J-Lo deep dives. To be fair, the Bodega may actually be genuine based on the era that J-Lo grew up "on the Block". There was a commentor who mentioned that when J-Lo says "orange drink", she likely means a Quarter Water that came in an orange flavour. He also said that ham and cheese on a roll would come with additional ingredients, like lettuce, tomato etc. He grew up in NYC during the 70's-80's, so maybe it's a generational difference that makes J-Lo's order seem untrue.

The world has moved on. Someone needs to tell her she's no longer famous. She's 54, past her prime, and needs to grow up. To think that anyone cares about her convoluted, pretentious story is so sad. I'm honestly surprised Jane Fonda agreed to be in the film... didn't she throw shade at her last year over her allegedly making her face bleed in the slap scene for Monster In Law (I've heard the arguments that she was kidding but the look on her face she seemed legitimately pissed)

honestly after this doc and film I’m endeared to her in a camp way. She knew that no one would care about the project and she still did it! the true definition of a vanity project. It’s just fun to always see her shoot for the stars and miss the mark. She’s the girl to sing a Barbara Streisand song even though she is nowhere near that in vocal ability. I admire it in some ways. I know everybody has a big hate on for her now but I already worked my way through that when the singing controversy happened. I’m evolved. It’s fun! I do find it funny when gen z want to “cancel” her bc she’s probably been canceled for like her whole career since she’s tabloid fodder, the fact that everybody is talking about her right now just gives her more notoriety, that how she’s always done it. Also, I’m a bodega order truther.

She didn't know that 😅 Are you kidding? She was full of herself and thought it would blow up and she was humbled real quick. When you charge that much for your concert tickets you still think you're the isht. She's deluded to think people are gona pay a 3rd of that. Her 15 minutes are up and that's that!

@@peacebeyondpassion2 In the documentary she made about creating the visual for her album. She literally said in the documentary “I know no one was wondering when the next jlo album is” and people told her multiple times in many ways not do it. Like yeah, maybe she hoped people would look at it and think she was a mastermind but she knew when making it that no one was begging for this like she was beyoncé. But she wanted to do it, bc she’s vain! And those concert prices are not based on the success of the recent album bc it was a flop. It was based on her being a legacy act, a lot of older artist charge a lot of money even though they ain’t topping the charts anymore bc they know people will spend money on them. So yes, she set those prices bc she thinks ppl were willing to cash out that much money to see “the” Jennifer Lopez but I don’t think it has anything to do with her thinking her movie or album was great bc it flopped. you guys just have more fun laughing at her bc you think she doesn’t know that people are doing that 😭 they’ve been doing it for decades. She hasn’t had a proper hit since like 2011 like she hasn’t been shit for a very long time and yet, she persists bc she’s vain. I think the thing about jlo is that she wants people to take her seriously, she wants the prestige bc she already had the hits. She’s never won a grammy, an oscar, or a golden globe. It’s why she campaigned so hard to get nominated for her hustlers role, why she tried to make this vanity project seem like it was some elevated piece about her love life. And why she attempts to sing Barbara Streisand. Her past two husbands are grammy and oscar winners, the last long term relationship was a baseball legend. Like all she wants is prestige which is something she’ll never get bc she’s not that great 🤷🏽‍♀️ (Sorry this is so long)

As a '90s kid who grew up in a Latino-majority community, JLo (then still known as just Jennifer Lopez) was well-liked for her music at the time. Her songs in the early 2000s did well, too (esp "Jenny on the Block"), but that was around the time she started getting more controversy with her high-profile relationships, venturing into acting with subpar success, and rebranding from a Latin pop artist to an R&B artist (and becoming "JLo"). I don't expect younger generations to be that into her, though.

I am really not a fan of JLo's but I have to admit, she was really good in Selena and in Out of Sight. She's had a few other good movies too. I honestly think that if she had focused her energy on acting, she would have been very good. But she was determined to be a "triple threat" and imo ended up being a zero threat.

okay i've never actually met jlo but when my mom was a dealer in the high limit pit of a casino she met a lot of celebrities & one of them was jennifer lopez & ben affleck when they were together the first time and, according to my mom, she was super duper rude to all the female dealers cuz she was crazy jealous and worried ben would be too friendly to them, and then when my mom was walking back from the bathroom apparently jlo almost knocked her over because she refused not to walk straight down the middle of a very narrow hallway so i've always known she was bad news tbh

Except for Bella Hadid’s case. she was forced to lie to people that she’s eating healthy, aka like a normal person, in an attempt to cover up the sad fact that her mother Yolanda is watching her every move onto what Bella eats; Yolanda is dieting Bella. So yeah, hate me or Bella for lying to the public but it *_is_* possible that she did it to protect herself from her own mother. Ultimately though, nobody really knows, but I do sincerely hope that she gets professional help in the future, not just to help her regain her physical and mental health, but also help to talk, communicate, convince Yolanda that what she’s trying to do is not normal.

JLo is determined and delightfully delusional. She will reinvent herself every chance she gets. If you're not being talked about (positively or vice-versa), then you are not relevant. She's definitely relevant, that's for sure. I think she should do a workout series. She is in excellent shape for a 50- something yo woman. She is gorgeous. I think her visual album is unnecessary, but I'm glad she got it out of her system. ❤

I don’t know why you don’t get it. I don’t like JLo but after watching this review I was so curious! And I was soooo surprised that I actually liked the video. She’s always been in love with being in love. She sought a soulmate based on their zodiac signs and other dumb things. But she never loved herself. She never could be without someone in her life. And her choice in men wasn’t healthy. She still believes in forever love though, so …. 💝
