Everytime someone’s favorite artist blows up they find a way to gatekeep, it just hurts a lot when it’s based on hateful ideas that are directly saying we don’t want you here, you may be queer but not enough, anyways, that’s what it feels like to me as a bi woman :/ where am I supposed to fit if my own queer community doesn’t accept me, and even though I think those comments are just some pity ass stuff because they are afraid of overpriced tickets, it’s still shows a deeper issue on why a lot bi women end up with straight men specially now when most of the time our first contact with a community is trough the internet. (I’m not saying ending up with straight men is a bad thing, just to clarify)

I got introduced to Chappell from that video you did!! I’m so sure she’s gonna be my number one artist for this year now and could not be happier she loudly refused to be an advertisement for a guy who actually can’t find it in himself to not fund genocide, and is gung ho to shut down the border. But vote blue no matter who right?

A lot of queer artists have historically performed songs that are from a heterosexual pov bc that was the way to get radio play. So it could have been her label early on having her change lyrics slightly. I mean look at Elton John or George Michael. And like it was stated in the video, people’s sexuality can change as they age or become more comfortable with their own wants/needs.

I really hope Sophie Hunter blows up soon (STREAM CVNT NOW)! Also I really want Scene Queen to get the global recognition she deserves. I will also take a bet that Lauren Sanderson is on the rise and will hopefully blow up. There’s so many artists I want to be like “they deserve the world and they will get it I know it” I have to stop myself at these 3.

Wait, Chappell Roan is part of the 2/3 of Americans under 30 who disapprove of Biden and not the 1/3 who approve of him? What are the odds of that? But like seriously, I don’t understand how people keep being surprised that young people don’t like Biden. I’m glad she had the integrity to not let them use her to distract from their Bush administration larp.

an artist i think deserves more recognition is ricky montgomery even though his older music is so insanely popular his newer music is not as popular but it is definitely as good or even better than his old stuff. and i think they should be known for all their work rather than just a few songs he made years ago. great video by the way :3

We had this exact conversation almost 10 years ago in the publishing industry. Authors were being pressured not to include red states in their book tours due to rampantly increasing anti-trans laws cropping up in 2015, and it was as mind-bogglingly stupid then as it is now. Their queer readers?? Deserve to get their books signed and gather for community?? Fucking shocker!! The smaller bookstores they visited to attract more business also deserve a shot at making a profit?? Maybe these authors want to look their readers in the face in these oppressive areas and say “You fucking matter. You deserve to be here.” White liberal city queers care about anyone else in the community challenge: failed! Laughably!

i live in louisville ky and was going to get tickets to louisville pride June 15th ($10 gen admission to the festival) but they sold out so fast bc chappel is performing and SO many ppl, even out of state, SWARMED to get $10 “chappel roan tickets”. it’s crazy bc every other year i’ve been, i either bought tickets day of or didn’t even need a ticket to enter. seniors also used to get free entry and it’s so sad to see so many old gays who were unaware of how insane it would be unable to even attend pride 😭 not mad at chappel for it ofc or even the festival planners bc no one knew she would have blown up so much before. but it is very sad so many ky gays can’t even go to their own pride bc so many ppl just saw it as a cheap chappel roan concert.

Soooo... That "cishet" guy might be a queer trans person and you just can't tell. Gatekeeping sucks so badly. And yeah, as a queer person living in a red state, I appreciate that not everyone has the insane idea that only people living in blue states deserve entertainment.

People really don’t have to be one sexuality or another to relate to GLB. For instance, as a transwoman, the song is very relatable. There are men who are so insecure about their attraction to transwomen that they like to keep their relationships a secret. Well, good luck babe. After hearing it, I teared up with joy and gave my husband a hug, because I finally met someone who didn’t treat me like his dirty secret.

Absolutely miserable hearing people frame Joe Biden’s passable opinions on queer people framed as THE BEST we’ve had. Literally true but by no means the way to measure a pro-lgbtq+ presidency

I am a cisgender man and a huuuuuge Chappell fan. Seen her twice now with my fiancé (who introduced me to her music last fall) and her crowds are the most loving, polite and fun people I’ve ever been around. Her concerts are truly one of a kind and I’m so grateful for the times I’ve seen her perform. I would hate for this “tweet” to actually become a thing because music is for everyone and Chappell’s shows are an all inclusive place for those who want to come out and have a good time. Thanks for making this video, great points!!

You missed my (least) favourite new Chappell Roan discourse: Casual is about a man. Chappell Roan has written songs about men before like My Kink is Karma but she explicitly said about this song that it was a man in the music video because "it was only ever men who made her feel that way" so presumably, the same applies to Casual, which features a woman in the music video. It comes a lot from the idea that only men can be toxic, all men are toxic, and women are a paragon of morality or some shit and it really bothers me to see it, especially because they're wrong about Casual being about about a man.

Chappell Roan's terminally online gatekeeping noise feels like those Sabrina Carpenter news headlines saying, "I asked Gramarian to Explain 'Espresso' ", execpt it's giving legislation. The girl's got a job. LGBT+ is diverse & so are political identities. I don't think she's a phony, but I also don't want her to feel like she has to PROVE her lesbian identity nor has to become an LGBT+ martyr. Like yall, stop being weird. Just let her exist, please? It's the only way we can get cringe free music. I really like her, but I am lowkey afraid I might get jumped because I am a bi-woman, who so happened to marry a man, and likes to go to events with him to spend time together with our hard earned income. (This is based off my local area saying they specifically were trying to bring certain activism symbols and attack others for not agreeing with them.) I might gotta wait until Chappell starts touring more often or to when I can afford to travel more to see her in areas that offer confirmed seating, rather than GA.

My choice for “artist who needs to blow up” is Lily and Madeleine. They’re a sister duo who’ve been putting out albums since 2014 that range in genres from stripped back, rootsy folk rock to much more polished pop music. They only have about 100k monthly streams but need to be much more successful

An artist I would like to blow up in the next few years is Precious Pepala she’s a queer 18 yearold black girl from the UK. She makes indie rock/pop music. She has a great voice and has the potential to be your next internet sad girl. Another artist that has already blown up but I wished got actually mainstream sucess is Conan Gray. But fame wise I think he is pass his prime but who knows maybe Conan can get even bigger.

I’m a cisgender straight woman who has discovered Chappell roan’s music this year and I think she is a true example of a renaissance women and I still find myself singing pink pony club when I’m alone and to be honest, she has gotten me through this harsh year. In terms of artists blowing up I hope people like Becky G, Renee rapp, and Rina Sawayama will keep getting big this year.

As a BTS fan I'll say that boy groups/ girl groups are mostly cursed but they don't have to be. I recommend a video called "how bts' teamwork makes the dream work (and why most boybands don't last)" she really goes into many of the issues with these types of groups and at times even addresses the fifth harmony issue as well

rina sawayama needs to blow up like chappell and renee rapp (who I love) her 2020 album SAWAYAMA is perfect but she didn't get to tour bc covid. her second album hold the girl is beautiful and about healing ur inner child. she has stadium pop, metal, and country-sounding songs bc she leans into the emotion of the songs so no two songs ar e the same and its an experience!! XS is about consumerism and capitalism so its bubblegum pop-y , STFU is about her experience with racism and microaggressions and her anger she cant express so it is heavier/metal ish for example. she makes good pop music that has so many layers and shes is a great performer and person
