I've been looking for the next Leatherman Juice and after any years of companies failing, I think I finally found the candidate that will take it's place and you should consider it! If you like the Juice, you will love this tool too.

Today's word must be "phenomenal" or I heard it somewhere because I say it a lot, but it is the best word I could come up with to describe this tool!

I picked up a PowerPint awhile ago too. I feel similar about it to you: love the bit driver that fits regular bits so I don’t need Leatherman branded bits; the size and weight are very convenient yet functional; it is a good value for the cost; and the tool selection is excellent. The two things I wish were different is I would prefer a saw instead of a serrated blade, mostly for bushcrafting, and I wish the steel quality was better because it feels a bit cheap to me. Overall, I’m happy with it! Oh, btw, I have the stonewashed version that seems to hide wear and tear pretty well.

LOVE my PowerPint! Partner it with a Leatherman ratcheting extender and you can get 6" reach easy. Plus, I found it can be awkward adjusting your hand around the tool while screwing in or out, or obnoxious to have to take the bit out of the screw just to reset each turn revolution. I usually carry both in my fifth pocket with a #2 phillips preatty easy. Edit: Just realized I'm seeing all the usual "hate this tool" comments I tend to see for the Pint. I will say, I have larger and beefier tools for really putting in some work or while outdoors. But as an urban/Dad EDC tool, it blows other tools of its size out of the water. Not to say other small tools aren't good, but for me at least, the solid pliers and an ACTUAL driver option makes it way more useful than others. It's like any other EDC item. Just 'cuz it doesn't fit your loadout, doesn't mean its crap.

Nice vid...I personally have the silver powerpint the poweraccess deluxe and the poweraccess assist....the deluxe is going to my dad and assist is going to my Van lol...so the trick to the powerpint is to close the tools without opening the pliers, all you do is open a tool next to the one you want to closes work like a charm

I only bought the blackwash because it was a few bucks cheaper! lol My biggest grip with the power series is the gears are not at all protected and chew up anything it comes into contact with while in the pocket or on the belt. This was the first one I've gotten my hands on that didn't do that. Someone in the comments did share that trick with me for closing the tools! Definitely a game changer. Thank you!! Many people are saying their file was garbage on their PowerPint, did yours have that issue or did you get a lucky one like me that was actually good?

I had the original SOG multi tool. I liked it as I could flick it open. The thing I hated was the crap covers they put on the make it more comfortable. SOG need to enlarge this tool to replace the original. I have a surge but it's such an arse to open and close. My Swisstool if much easier. I'm going to pick one of these up. 👍

Agreed! The little covers popped off all the time. They weren't even pinned on. I don't think their full sized tools are in the same arena as a Leatherman st300 and the gears on larger sogs are not covered and scratch everything. Big no for me.

I am not sure a saw that small would be all that useful. If I am setting out, knowing I will be processing wood, I'll just take my bahco laplander. This tool is just too small I think to make it useful.

@@Jfree441 Oh no that's true. As a tool to use regularly for processing wood, It would not be ideal but I'd rather carry this than a victorianox while going camping. Like an emergency situation thing. There is someone on KZfaq that has added a saw to his powerpint. I just don't see the serrated blade being that useful. .

There seems to be a lot of hate on this tool in the comments. For me it's great. I carry a Surge daily, Thing is a tank. But every now and then when I'm wearing nice clothes going out, visiting family ect, and don't want something dragging me down but ain't going to be working as hard this fits perfectly. Now if you are daft enough to think this is going to stand in for a surge or equivalent then you need to check your expectations. This gets you out of a jam has everything you will need. Not amazingly but does the job. For me any multitool is a get out of jail card. I need a file I'm gunna go get a file, If I'm Innthe middle of nowhere, or away from my tools, something better than nothing.
@Jfree441
@Jfree441 Жыл бұрын
I was surprised actually to see this much negative commentary on the tool. I either got a good one or there is a hate culture for this tool, I am not sure yet. I am definitely under no impression this will replace a Leatherman Surge, no other tool comes close to capability to the Surge or 300. I have multiools all over that are more suited for bigger jobs but if I intend on doing anything hands on, I will bring the proper tools and not rely on this tool alone. This is to get me out of pinches or do small tinkering, but in my opinion, it does it near perfectly. I have yet to find a tool of it's size that does it better, and that includes the old Leatherman Juice, it was a great tool but had some short comings, the biggest one is that it's not even made anymore. I have a ton of MT options and still find myself putting this one in my pocket and until that changes, I'll keep saying good things. Sucks that others got bad ones, or their expectations are just misaligned but in my years of using and carrying MTs, this one is a win for me. Thank you for your comment!!

I had the SOG powerpint but ended up returning it a few days later. Your video reminded me of why I did. The SOG Powerpint has fantastic pliers, no doubt. But the rest of its tools are weak imho. Scissors are garbage on it, the screwdrivers aren't good (worse than Leatherman, worse than the Victorinox Rambler), files and saws I never cared for. The knife is worse than the pocket knife I carry. So essentially it's just the pliers. But the rest of the side tools are inferior to my Victorinox. If the side tools were on par (at the very least) with a Victorinox Rambler (or equivalent) then hell yeah it'd be an amazing tool. But honestly it's only the pliers that hold anything of value and I just grab a Knipex XS when I need something done. And yes, there's the compartment in the back which takes any bit driver but overall I didn't think it was worth keeping. The side tools just aren't up to par imho, they feel brittle, they legitimately feel dangerous too in the way they come out, not smooth and poor craftsmanship imo.

It's 3 months later and I'm back here. I literally just rebought this. I'm wondering whether it's possible to remove some of the side tools out of this thing without compromising anything. But I'm totally in agreement with you. There's just nothing in the mid-size size range. It's this or the Juice S2. Problem with the Juice S2 is that they're charging up the wall. Also the S2 basically can't be modified with new tools since it's held together by rivets. I'm thinking of just getting this and solely for its pliers and in a pinch it's subpar tools. As they say - the best tool is the one you have on you. Is it easy to remove the tools you don't want? I think I'd remove redundancies from my Victorinox Rambler. ie the scissors, the tiny screwdriver, the tiny microscrewdriver that is SUPER SUPER dangerous holy shit.
@steved9060
@steved9060 Жыл бұрын
I like the Powerpint mainly for the 1/4" bit holder and excellent pliers for the size. It's easy to remove side tools with 2 T8 torx bits. The tricky part is getting it all back together. The tools are separated by thin nylon washers and everything needs to be carefully aligned onto the threaded tube part of the screw before the shorter male screw is refixed. The tightness of the screws will need adjusting to get back to the ease of opening you prefer. The thickness of the tools at the pivot is around 1.4mm, so you need to use 3.5mm id X 7mm od washers to make up the gap. Interested to hear how you get on.
@Dracomies
@Dracomies Жыл бұрын
@@steved9060 Oh yeah about a few days after I got it, I figured it out. It was a Bee trying to get it together. The most difficult part is that the locking mechanism the black part easily comes out. So I had to use really tiny hemostatic pliers to put them together. I managed to make it work. Instead of washers (since I didn't think about that), I used zip ties, cut the ends and it worked haha. Essentially I kept all the best tools and removed the crap ones on the sides.

apparently the aliexpress ones are factory seconds which is why they're cheaper, apparently.. but I would think you could fix them yourself if they were a bit garbage. Almost all of multi tool reviewers somehow forget to take the steel composition into account. PowerPint steel is 5cr. Very soft steel. Also it has a huge gap on pliers.
@Jfree441
@Jfree441 9 ай бұрын
It's not that it's not taken into account, it's just that multi-tools across the board have inferior steel to pocket knives. Leatherman is really the only one making multiools with superior steels and it's only in the knife blade. The majority of multi-tools have very soft tool steel. This is not meant to take the place of a pocket knife, but it in my use is better than the steel on victorinox and those are to some the king of pocket tools. It's just not worth bringing up until the gap in performance is detectable more regularly.
@4Sandrix
@4Sandrix 9 ай бұрын
@@Jfree441 leatherman does not use 3rc and 5cr steel or equivalents for their pliers, but SOG does, also besides the blade the cutters, file and some pressure fit elements on leatherman are made out of much more durable compounds(in general) compared to SOG and other budget options. Which is why they last longer. Hell even screws are higher in quality)) There’s another high-end Italian multi tool brand called Beta you might have heard about it. Similar quality to Leatherman. Anyway my point was: I love powerpint, but I also know that I’ll have to buy it every 4 to 6 months again and again so in longterm it is not that great of a deal.
@Jfree441

@@4Sandrix That is a fair assessment. I have used leatherman for many years and have had 2 break on me doing seemingly normal tasks. Leathermen wave pivot screw broke clean off. Leatherman Juice S2 screwdriver twisted like a corkscrew under reasonable tension. SOG has yet to fail me but time will tell. I don't only take into account the brand, and materials when I review. I use the stuff and give real world examples because I love it. Maybe in a year or two, I will share the hatred for this steel but in my use as a tinkerer and relative handy guy, it has not yet failed me like I have seen in leatherman. If I had to choose just one, without a doubt I would choose leatherman, but I do find joy in some of these more obscure tools surprising me in how good they are.

These definitely seem to be a hit or miss. I have heavily used a Leatherman Juice and would still prefer if they were readily available however, I have YET to break the SOG and I bent and broke the Juice. I still think this is the next best thing to the Leatherman Juice after this much use, I am still confident with that. If leatherman could bring out a mini multi-tool on the Free platform, I would be in heaven. Knowing Leatherman Juice is a no go and even second-hand are ridiculously expensive, what would be your goto plier based pocket tool?
