This keyboard clearly has loads of it's sounds sampled from Roland GS including the piano and snare surprisingly sampled from the SC-88 Pro but the standard of sound quality is about the same as the Microsoft Wavetable synth. Other sounds like the agogo sound like they came from Casio. I can tell the piano only uses samples from the mid range.

I'm very surprised. I've never seen one up close, but I was ready to lump it with First Act and other toy-quality keyboards. I sure wasn't expecting it to even rise to the level of Casio.

By listening to the sounds of this keyboard, i noticed the drum rhythm sound to sound exactly as the 'standard 1' kit of my 1997 Roland E-500 and some voices of this Rockjam keyboard sound like a 1992 Kawai keyboard. That piano sound sounds 'General Midi-ish' like a 1991 Roland E-70.

Ordered the non-AX version today as my first adult keyboard purchase. I have a much smaller battery only thing that is from the late '90s and I've had an urge to play piano on and off for a long time. For a beginner like me this seems ideal. Piano is all that matters so any extra functions are nice but not that important ultimately. Solid review thank you :)

One question is sensitive to touch, that is, if you press the strong key, it will sound equally strong if you press it more slowly.

I just ordered this keyboard for my 7 year old daughter. She just started lessons, and I didn’t want to make a huge financial commitment before seeing if she sticks with it. It seemed like a good value just from the description. This review makes me think I will be happy with my purchase.

Very good piano and decent strings, too! But what about other instruments like a TENOR SAX, or VIOLIN/FIDDLE? I USE THOSE A LOT plus the strings !

i write songs, I know the tune I want to use but I cannot write music. Is there a keyboard that can help me write the music scores to my songs, and i can print it on a music sheet. So basically i want a keyboard where i just sound out the melody with one hand and it puts it on sheet music and i can connect it blue tooth to my computer and print the sheet music with the musical scores.

Hi Jeremy nice review as usual. A few questions: at this price point I guess that this keyboard is not touch sensitive? Also, what are the USB to device and the SD card slot meant for? Is it for MIDI or can this keyboard record audio directly on an USB stick or a SD card? And for that matter, how did,you record the audio yourself? Without being great, the sounds are quite decent at this price point. Could you maybe do a demonstration of some of the sounds and rhythms? I think this little keyboard might interest many families who don’t have that much money for music instruments, especially now at Christmas time. I am more dubious about the utility of having Alexa on a keyboard, though. Regards, Vinciane.

Thanks for dropping by Vinciane. Roland is also trying to get on the Alexa trend. 🤣 The USB & SD card are for playing back MIDI & MP3 files. Audio was recorded via headphones jack. Have a blessed Christmas!

well, thank you for this honest review, now i'm really thinking about buying one of these, since the reviews on amazon germany were really bad, i didn't know if it was worth the money, i mean, sure 50 euros are a joke for a keyboard but i can't play piano yet and only want a cheaper one to maybe learn it. if i'm unable, i just will give it to my niece.

Neat review . Can i use this as a Midi keyboard ? I notice the MIDI slot mentioned on the cover, but when i check the product on amazon, i am not able to see any MIDI OUT connection in device. I would still buy it , since you say i can record what i am playing through SD Card (USB) or even Headphone-out socket(though i am not sure how id record via headphone out ?). Also i am assuming the USB slot is a USB to DEVICE slot and not a USB to HOST slot.

So i picked this up anyway because of a Prime sale, And it turns out there is an AUX out, just an AUX in , and one has to use the Headphone socket to listen via headphones , or connect to an external amp via 3.5mm to stereo cable. An AUX out , or a MIDI out would have been awesome. ALso the sound is pretty loud, so one can record on your Phone or Laptop too, in case you want to quick recording

Is the any website listing all the RockJam models and release dates. Very hard to compare each with RJ461AX, to see which was released first, which is better etc. RJ660-SK RJ461-AX RJ761-SK RockJam company are confusing ! Certainly want to avoid the RJ with the flat buttons, that's for sure!

It would make sense for use as a backing keyboard for vocals where there is not much melody playing and the left hand is mostly playing the chords. I think it seems to be quite a well thought out layout.
