I’m retired and if Robin”s shop was closer I would volunteer to sweep the floors just to watch him work.

I've seen a number of J.P. Cormier's videos with Robin. He seems like a true genius when it comes to building guitars - master of the old techniques, but always pushing the boundaries of what is possible and pioneering new techniques. The fact that he only uses the top 5% of tops that come through the door just shows how much pride he takes in his craft. And on top of that, he just seems like a really cool guy. Great video, thanks.

Paul Reed Smith posted a video on his youtube channel years ago, where he holds a 4" x 4" post of solid Brazilian rosewood, that's about 40" long. He grasps the post with fingers & thumb of one hand, allowing the post to hang straight down. Then, with his free hand, he raps the post with his bare knuckles. That post rang very loud with incredible sustain. It sounded like a big bell ringing!!! Or very much like a large metal pipe!!! If you couldn't see what he was doing, and could only listen, you would swear it's either a bell, or a metal pipe ringing. I urge everyone to scroll way back in Paul's video library to find this video. The video title is something like: "Why Brazilian Rosewood is so Special".

I literally just want to watch Rob tap woods and explain the differences for hours. This is easily one of the best videos I have ever seen explaining tapping wood.

Great video. I cranked my studio monitors and listened carefully. The Brazilian rosewood was incredible to hear. Very impressed with Boucher Guitars.

Now I understand that not only is it’s construction, but in the selection process of top grade wood reserved exclusively for Boucher guitars that makes their product what it is, and why no one else can come close. Excellent video, Jeremy!

One of my favorite videos you have done, thanks for the great content. A few years back I had a luthier explain the value of tapping tonewoods to me, and I think this video perfectly outlines the merit behind doing so if you are considering a small build or a project of your own. It would be interesting to follow a specific set of tonewoods through the full guitar building process to see what this amounts to in a full instrument.

I now own two Boucher guitars - they are unique sounding, one is a heritage goose with rosewood another is a new OM Torrified Maple. Just lovely.

What a video to kick off 2024! Tonewoods with my favorite Guitar builders on Earth :) My tour with Boucher last summer Robin went through some tapping and tone woods as well, and it was an incredible experience. Such a humble, and down to earth guy. He loves his guitars, and so do I! Thanks Jeremy.

I am not sure I heard each difference between pieces of Wood. However I loved this video. Robin and each person in this video speaks with passion and desire to dig in the secret of guitar sounds that makes this instrument so attractive. Great video! Tx

11:53 "...Jeune ami..." Young friend. You really must have had a wonderful time at Boucher, and it shows in these videos. I guess you'll just have to go back and make more!

Great video! In the end it’s all educated guessing. I’ve played some awful vintage Brazilian Martins. Played some really great ones too. Some kind of unexplainable magic combination has to happen with whatever wood is used. Some companies are replicating it better than others.

Tonewood is so fascinating. It's amazing how different woods have different tones. I'm always a little torn between the classics like Rosewood, and the fascinating alternatives like your Osage orange with Sycamore top. Just fascinating, and kinda fun to geek out over! 😊

Really enjoyed the tapping. Pretty crazy to hear the difference. You take it for granted or you just assume it’s a bunch of fluff. But that’s pretty wild.

I've noticed on these high-end guitars, from Boucher to Gibson to Martin, that the ones with torrified tops have a "skunk streak" on the ends of the top boards where they meet in the middle. What causes that different coloration? And, does it fade in time?
