You are the reason that I got into whiskey and had to go with your beginner bottle of choice Woodford Double Oaked. Love the Woodford Reserve Double Oaked - flavour bomb at a decent price (about $75ish in Australia, $65 when on special). The Glendronach 15 is great, I've had bottles of most of their core range (including their new peated expression, which is delicious). For me, the 18 year old Glendronach is incredible, it's a significant step up from the 15, highly recommend it! Great video Jeremy, cheers!

I've never been too keen on bourbon, I tend to lean towards Islay malts for the peatyness. A good all rounder for peated whisky would be Lagavulin 16 and for something with a bit more smoke to it I'd go for Ardbeg Corryvrecken.

Great Video! You mentioned how you jump between 1910 and 1920 in the video(I do too) and me and my buddies made a mix of 50% 1910 and 50% 1920 that we appropriately call "1915" and it's absolutely amazing. I recommend everyone try it cause it's a great flavorful sipper, and it slightly brings down the proof if 1920 is a bit high for some people.

Good list. I have all of the Bourbons. I have a slight preference for 1910 over 1920. I'd probably put up Rare Breed instead of 101, but 101 is definitely great for the price. Russel's Single Barrel is probably my favorite WT label. I LOVE the Jack SBBP, and I think it actually drinks lower proof and easier than other high barrel proofs like ECBP or Stagg Jr.

I do not have as much drinking Scotch, but really enjoyed Laphroaig 10. As far as the list of ones that I am familiar with, I agree on the Bourbons, Rye and Redbreast. The biggest surprise out there is how easily accessible Pikesville is. Great Rye, esp if you do not like the minty flavors of the high ryes.

This is a great list. They're all accessible and all very good, although I haven't tried a whole lot of Macallen, so I can't really comment on the Macallen 15. I was thinking about trying a bottle of the 15 ironically enough though. The rest of the list I definitely vouch for, and I'd probably add Wild Turkey Rare Breed, Four Roses Single Barrel, and Knob Creek 12 as well.

Rare Breed is excellent! I have tried Macallen 12 Double Cask and just can't get behind it. Also I have found that Knob Creek 9 is not a great sipping whiskey for me but it works really well in an Old Fashioned. I think I have found that I do not like over sherried/long finished whiskeys just a touch of finishing... a kiss of finishing is more to my liking. A ton of people really dig Macallen. Some sherry finish stuff gets a little nail polishy/acetone/fake sweetener aftertaste which is not pleasant for me.

@@ShaneTheGeek Hi. I too own WT Rare Breed but so far it has been a bit too hot for me. do you water it down a little or does it just take a little bit to get used to?
@ShaneTheGeek
@ShaneTheGeek 2 жыл бұрын
@@derfeiiind505 I do not add water to my glass and drink exclusively through Glencairns. I tend to sip gingerly and breathe outwards from my mouth once or twice to cool the whisky before letting it go down the hatch. Afterwards breathing in through the nose then exhaling out. It could simply be a really heavy cinnamon note to your specific bottle but do give it a try drinking more slowly and breathing deliberately using a Glencairn glass. Let me know if this method helps... Cheers!!!

I have to say that my favorite Single-Malt Scotch has to be Glenmorangie 12. Granted, it's not high ABV, nor does it have "Unique Charecteristics". But it's delicious, it drinks smooth, and it's not all that expensive.

Indeed. Glenmorangie has a wide range of different ones, & would represent the other side of the spectrum of single malt scotch as opposed to the islays. Glendronach's are O.K., MacAllans are overpriced. And John Powers Three Swallows are the irish equivalent to wild Turkey 101 bourbon. Character & style, whereas most irish whiskey don't have either.

I can often get Woodford Reserve for very good prices over here in the UK. I always thought it was a great neat bourbon, but I'm not a bourbon expert. However, I'm very fortunate, great Scotch is pretty affordable where I am. I have a particular weakness for good Japanese whiskey though, it occupies a third space between bourbons and scotch, in my inexpert opinion.

For a beginners list (trying to keep on budget) i may add…. Dun Bheagan small batch, Monkey Shoulder, Sexton, Jameson Black Barrel, Basil Hayden and if you like the Smokey punch in the face of Islay’s, Laphroig quarter cast (nice deep smoke without the high price of a Lagavulin 16). They’re all relatively inexpensive and have the classic flavours for the regions.

If the Redbreast is a go to for you and regular Jameson isn't then you're probably a fan of the traditional single pot still style. I dig that version of "Ain't No Love in the Heart of the City". Tennessee Whiskey, like the Jack Daniels you showed, does fall under the definition of Bourbon. You definitely have some key staples of Bourbon selections. I'm not as familiar with the Scotch. So, thanks for the advice there.
@mickeybreezy

The reason Tennessee whiskey is often classified different from bourbon is that they use what's called the Lincoln County Process, which essentially means its charcoal filtered. Also since bourbon is commonly associated with Kentucky, although it can be made anywhere in the USA, there may be some border rivalry going on there lol.

Pretty solid list. All easily available in Texas of the North - Alberta 🇨🇦. I would say save your pennies and go from glendronach 15 - 21 Year and get Glenfarclas 15 in replace of the aforementioned 15 year. Lol and macallan is the BMW of the scotch world . People may hate on them to hate on them but at the end of the day they make a good product even if it’s 20% over inflated. Imo lag 16 is the smoothest islay that could be easily a daily sipper if not for the price. Ardbegs to my pallet are sweeter brighter but also spikier and saltier (not sure if that’s a word. Oh well). Give the Offermen Guinness ardbeg a go. You can definitely taste the influence and the bottle information is a cut up! Thanks for the great video as always!

The only bottles on this list in my collection are: Woodford Double Oak, Wild Turkey 101, and Ardbeg. Eagle Rare is another of my Go-To whiskeys, which depending on where you are in the country is always in stock, or more elusive. Solid list though.

Hello good sir… just my 2 cents… if you like macallan…. You MUST try Glenlivet. The 12 year is a fantastic everyday scotch, but if you want a special occasion drinker… you gotta get the 18yr. It is unbelievable my friend!!! You will not be disappointed!!!! Let this one take a good 30 minutes to enjoy and taste how it evolves in the glass over time.

I have tried all the scotches you listed and the rye. I have to say your tastes (bourbon aside) are excellent. In my notes, Pikesville has a 1 line entry "Damn fine rye!". The scotches are all excellent. I lean a little towards the Laphroaig for the Islay scotch, but Ardbeg is damn good. If you have not done so, check out the Compass Box scotches. Specifically the Hedenisom. Tasty stuff. But your list is excellent and I agree with your scotch and rye selections. (Not a bourbon guy, sorry, I have tried)

The most I've ever seen Wild Turkey 101 go for in my neck of the woods (Kansas City) is $22. And the last couple of bottles I bought, it's been under $19. As you can imagine, it's my daily drinker. It's too good and too cheap not to consume like water. The Uigeadail is the most expensive whiskey in my collection. And... it's my favorite. I drink it sparingly, because I dread not having any left. It is magic!

Islay’s are so much more complex. They are the best spirits ever put on this earth. That being said. The best whiskey is the one you like to drink the way you like to drink it. Have you tried Spaysides? Much more friendly. Very fruity.

Try Balvenie 12 doublewood then. Bourbon is ok but you can’t compare it with scotch. The variety scotch has doesn’t exist in bourbon. The complexity scotch has doesn’t exist in bourbon either. Drinking scotch is taking a trip of flavors. It changes from one sip to the next one. It’s an experience. No other spirit in the world offers you that.

I bought Deveron 12 yo today and tasted it. I think it should be one in the "arsenal". It is a really clean whisky. Kinda light. To me it tasted like a light version of Macallan 12yo. Some might disagree. But at the price its really worth the money. Perfect whisky for the warmer months of the year I think. Usually when it gets colder and darker I tend to drink Islay malts that tastes more of alcohol than this one. This one is a perfect gift to someone that is stuck in the "terrible" swamp of blended whisky were most tastes like melted plastic toys in alcohol (Yes Famous Grouse, I'm looking at you and your friends). Even though it doesn't, to me, tastes like a lot of alcohol and its taste isn't as full as most whiskys its almost a "must have" in the collection to offer someone that "hates" whisky to maybe spark some interest. This is really an interesting whisky. After a couple of sips.... you really start to suck out all of the aftertaste. Kinda like if you just had your last toffee and want more candy. Most whiskies are powerful in their taste but this one is interestingly subtle
