With making bath bombs and soaps that is something you can totally start even at 12! You can really take time experimenting with recipes, logos, color schemes, etc so that way when you are ready to fully launch you will have perfected your craft

Keep in mind, that if digital payment and transportation is an obstacle at your age, you could always go door to door. I’m starting out without a car in a small town and so door to door sales is what I have to work with. Theres no shame. As a matter of fact, there’s a major benefit to doing this method as a small business starting out, because the consumer gets a more interpersonal experience from a local like you in their community, providing for the community. Be resourceful. Price match your ingredients/tools(Amazon delivers so no need to drive out for supplies) And remember, you’re 12! That’s your leverage over every corporation’s sales pitch. How could anyone resist to at least try your soap and bath bombs! You’re probably the more intellectually invested amongst your peers, being an aspiring entrepreneur at such a young age.👌 Bravo for that, bud! Ask questions, and you’ll find out better ways to make your money work for you. As a Navy vet, I’ll put it in military form for you. Every dollar you have in your pockets should should be seen as a crew mate on your ship. If you have to beg a sailor to do their part all the time, your ship could slow down and be stuck at sea, BUT if you can get the crew to do their equal part, you’ll be known as “Captain Arixzsf, the VICTOR!” 🛳️🇺🇸

Oh and another thing. Kids at your age can be ruthless on social media, but just know that if your classmates are making fun of you for it, don be discouraged. Be clever and allow them to talk. They don’t realize that they’re working for you, when your business is being tossed around in gossip. That’s publicity, and you are now the big buzz in town! That’ll spark curiosity, which will make people try your product to see what it’s all about. When they find out how awesome your bath bombs and soaps are, that reputation will change for the best. Your haters are now YOUR foot soldiers for FREE haha. You’re gonna do great. I hope this boosts your confidence and drive to run a successful business. Be safe and God Bless you all! 🩸✝️❤️

Loved your video it helps a lot. My biggest challenge is how do you keep records of all your expenses & profits & supplies? Trying to find an easy way to keep records of all these things? Do you have a video that can help with what program you use? Or what organization skills you can share about this topic. Thank you

Thanks so much for sharing, I loved this video. But id love you to include your other business runnings costs. Your phone, electricity, insurance, accounting program, internet, car (travel to farmers markets) can you include these in order to show a fare profit margin. And annul costs as well. Thanks!

You're a smart little lady and you have gained a lot of business sense that you have been willing and upfront to share. Good for you and thank you! I too am a small business owner since 2010, running a home decor and gift shop as well as my husband running a small medical equipment business since 2003. Many times folks forget about all the expenses that go along with running a small business and far too many never put their taxes back and that can be a true shocker come tax time. Can't stress that enough. Best to you and your husband and all small business owners and as we all try to maneuver around such strange and interesting days! Blessings!

A little over 60k a year ... that’s great money
@TheBilly
@TheBilly 3 жыл бұрын
"great"? In north America? It's median. Maybe a little better than the US since she's Canadian and they have universal healthcare and such. In the US it wouldn't be very good because 1099 self-employed people need to take out even more than 25-30% to pay their own healthcare, retirement account, etc. A US 1099 worker should be setting aside over 40% so it would be like 36K take home for two people. You'll survive but you won't live the high life.
@rkstr8829
@rkstr8829 3 жыл бұрын
@@TheBilly you don’t have to take out that much lol but anyways most of that she’s clearly accounted for so like I said.... for a small soap business 60k a year AFTER expenses and taxes is great
@SerendipitousProducts
@SerendipitousProducts 3 жыл бұрын
1099 in the US sucks you have to make more then 100k to take home anything worth while. I ran a business for many years, I hated paying quarterly taxes. You have pay your own unemployment taxes. My good friend said you should always set aside 104% of the previous year just to reach what you owe. For the entire 15 years I paid quarterly 2,500 and at the end of the year when I field I still ended up paying like 8 to 10k in takes. Luckily my state doesn’t have state taxes and my wife has health insurance is her company.

Thanks for sharing this video, it's very informative! But from an accounting/business pov, you should also include the labor cost of making soaps, time cost of spending at the farmers market, events etc... These are legitimate income that can be deducted against your revenue to reduce tax. Also, as a side hustle, most people would also be interested in how many hours you devote into the business. (This could also be a topic for future video??)

Thank you, this is super helpful! I’m curious about a few things (will look below to see if already answered): how many “hours”/week or month would you say you both put toward this? I like to base things off how it compares to a US 40hr work week. Also, would you say this is roughly your standard kind of month? Higher? Lower? Also curious if you have a separate business insurance (but now realizing in Canada it might be different). Thanks in advance, really inspiring! Oh, and how long have you been in business? Thanks!

Thank you so much, you have made some great points, recommendations and helped to set some reasonable expectations for me moving forward. Do you find your monthly profit changes by extreme or by slightly from month to month?

Amazing information, and your advice about setting aside the 25% for tax purposes is right on point, and let me preface this by saying that I don't know beans (although I would find it very interesting to learn about) the tax system(s) in Canada, it might be a good idea to not only set these funds aside but to just go ahead and send them in to the taxing agency(s) as what we here in the US call Estimated Tax Payments (provided the Canadian taxing authorities accept "ES Payments") Here, we not only have Federal - which consists of not only Income, but also Social Security Tax, but most (not all, however) states also have an Income Tax, and in some states, there are also "Locality" taxes as well. Given all of that, we all know that things come up, and it would be all too easy to reallocate funds. If those funds are not "on hand", reallocation and the possible shortfall in the amount paid in, as well as the danger of owing, or owing a less manageable amount is much easily avoidable. I don't mean to lecture, please don't take it as such, but I've seen time & time again where - especially small business owners have gotten into some pretty - almost insurmountable tax debt because of the huge temptation, especially during the leaner times, to reallocate funds in this manner, and many times the situation they've gotten themselves into has "snowballed" to a point where it had become (not only to them, but me as well) heartbreaking. Here under certain circumstances, making ES Payments is required, as a matter of fact. Again, this "book" is not meant as a lecture - you're a "smart cookie", and that's obvious, it's just a bit of (unsolicited, I know) but maybe helpful advice. Believe me when I tell you - I promise, it's coming from a good place. God bless both you and your business! 💗

Hey, Jerika! This video does a great job of explaining some things you encounter with selling, such as making sure to have a square-reader and filing for taxes as a small business. Something I’m also curious about is how do you go about marketing your products and finding venues to sell your product?

I can't tell you how refreshing it is for someone to be, so open as you have been. I've often wondered how viable it would be, to run a small business from home. What I would really like to know, would be. How long did it take you, to get what you're earning now. Because when you first start, I would imagine your first year being quite slow, just feeling your feet with everything, so what I'm trying to say is, is it year two when your earnings go up or even takes to year three before you start earning like what you've described. Very good Vlog Jerika. 🥰🐾🇬🇧🌲⛄
