@@moonchild3130 Jermaine did well as a solo artist. Both he and Michael recorded solo albums as members of The Jackson 5ive. When the brothers left Motown, Jermaine discovered the group Switch and help write and produce hits for them. This was a joint back in the day. The Jacksons would ALWAYS approach music videos with a cinematic sensibility. Whether it was Michael, Jermaine or Janet, they always dropped amazing music videos that pushed the medium further than any artist previously. Eseercam It was documented that MIchael wasn’t going to do this video. He helped set everything up but gagged them the day of shooting. He agreed to do the Victory album and the subsequent tour, but that was the extent of what he was willing to do - aka no music videos. And those two things he agreed to were the result of his Mother Katherine begging him to do the Victory tour for the family. Jermaine reportedly refused to participate in the video because of Michael’s absence (he wasn’t going to be made to feel inferior by his little brother). Michael at that point was the King of Pop Music and Culture in Summer of 1984. Thriller’s sales were still going through the stratosphere after a year and a half (released November 30, 1982) and he didn’t need the money. A punk rocker on some retro show said even punk and metal kids purchased copies of Thriller. His crossover appeal was like nothing the industry had ever seen at the time. Thriller of course became the biggest selling album of all time. He was making $2 for every album sold which was unprecedented at the time for any artist. Albums were about $7-12 on average. That’s not to mention singles, investments, and endorsements (Pepsi wasn’t the only endorsement he had BTW). Michael’s was raking in $100 -$200 million a year at that point. So he was good. He even donated his payment for the Victory Tour to charity which is another unprecedented move as artist make the bulk of their money from touring - and that was the biggest tour ever. So he was secure to say the least.

Song did really well on the charts! Top 20 hit on the pop and dance charts, and Top 10 hit on the R&B charts! 1984 was a huge year for all of the Jacksons! Following the EXPLOSIVE success of Thriller (the album AND music video), all three sisters (Janet, Rebbie, and Latoya) had albums out with singles that all did well on the R&B charts that year, some that crossed over onto the Pop Charts (i.e. "Centipede" for Rebbie)! Jermaine's "Dynamite" album here produced several other hits too!! And of course the Victory album/tour was a huge success! The Jacksons truly OWNED 1984!!!! Such an immensely talented, legendary and influential family filled with some gifted musicians and entertainers!

Wow this is probably my 3rd all time favorite song by Jermaine after “Do What You Do,” & “Let’s Get Serious!”

This would be a shock to most Michael Jackson fans, but in my theory, I kind of think Michael Jackson was inspired by this video a few years later for what would be his 1987 video "Bad". The choreography is especially similar in the directing arena. In my opinion, this was one of Jermaine's best tracks out of his entire music catalog.

Well technically, Bad is a homage to West Side Story especially the choreography. Similarly with Beat It. Both took inspiration on that particular movie. I've seen the movie. Also, Michael said it himself, it was one his favorite movies of all-time, he wacthed it over and over every weekend since he was little.

Love how Jermaine has a soft touch in his voice smooth like whiskey. Then the slow motion chase on the tables… exciting 🎉❤❤

I can hear the Jackson in him. Most Jackson’s have that cute adorable pitch in their voice. But Mj dynamite 🧨 jeromines music, tremendously.

They also have a lot of the same inflections on certain words they sing. The word "me" stands out whenever any of them sings it. You just know it's them. Very distinctive.🐾
