I just wanna say thank you for the discount code. I've used it on all my orders for a while now and with BCW's free shipping after $200, it's like you're getting a few things for free. Especially when those SIKTC short boxes came out. I use the Silver bags and boards myself for my collection. I just like that extra protection on the sides, plus doubling up makes it more firm and sturdy, just wished they made full backs to give it a more solid feel.

Peace, Chris! You're welcome! This info is on point. Because of your original bag & board video I was getting custom cut 7 1/8" Full-backs for my Standard Mylites 2. I noticed soon after that the FB's were JUUUUUST a little too tight for the mylars. Some would bend in the bag. Some of the bags even split because of it and had to be discarded. That's not a good look. I readjusted to the 7" FB's after that.

Russ! Yeah same was happening to me. Some bags just came out the manufacturing process too tight. I actually did a 7 1/16"inch that worked pretty perfect, but since I think you told me they aren't doing customs now, the 7 inch is just fine.

I mainly collect modern. Both normal size and thicker modern. I like mine fairly tight but with some room on the side so that they can’t get damaged. I can’t decide what’s better. The thick regular or the silver age. I don’t want tons on the side. But I currently have them quite tight and I’m getting some spine ticks.!
@JernosComicsPopCulture
@JernosComicsPopCulture 16 күн бұрын
I loove the thick regular (7 inch width because you can fit standard moderns as well as the oversized moderns (as long as they aren't like the Wal-Mart Giants or over 100 page plus square bound thick). So you don't get as much of that loose feel you get with silver, and you get a pinch of room on the side still. Keep in mind, board size will impact tightness as well. So you have to pay attention to what boards you are using. If you're using say, full backs or 56pt boards with the thick modern bags, that might be chocking a thicker modern book.

@@JernosComicsPopCulture never knew there was so many options when I first started collecting haha. I think currently I have modern for both and there’s no room on the edges. As a guy who also buys and sells cards I'm not a fan of most ultra pro products. They tend to be overpriced and they as you said wrinkly or snap or break easy if they are the stiff protectors. @@j-stilt9746 There should be absolutely no problem, unless your putting oversized books in them. Are they standard BCW boards with the one-sided buffer? Question. I have 1980s comics i bought and collected as a teenager from money earned throwing newspapers. I didn't know how to store properly in the beginning and later didn't want to spend the money. So i used newspaper rain bags etc to protect. Does one ever clean their comics? Animals insects etc could have gotten in. I'm about to go through and put bcw boards and bags on them. Also I'll need short or long boxes. I've used uhaul totes etc.... i know. Bad and shame on me. So. Boards say coated on one side. Coated goes against the comic, I'm assuming? I have 6 3/4" boards with 6 7/8" bags. Just need to order boxes. Again. Need to know if i need to clean wipe down books for any reasons. They may or may not be present. Just watched a bunch of KZfaq s to catch up. First, if you're buying more supplies, especially if your using bcwsupplies.com, make sure to use the code JERNOS to get 10% off. There's no telling what type of damage or dirt or residue might be present on your comics from how they were stored. My best, most simple advice, would to just have a couple of cotton balls on hand. You can use these to gently rub against the front and back of the comics. You'll be able to see dirt and residue on the cotton ball. There are some really intense cleaning methods that you can do with comics, but you need to be professionally educated to these techniques, plus, if the comics aren't worth hundreds or thousands of dollars, it would probably just be a waste of your time. Hope this helps!

I bought the Mylar and backing board combo you recommended for modern comics (7 inch 2 mil mylar and 6 7/ 8 half back), but it's a tight fit on my brand new comics. Like, i have to really push them down in the bag. How tight is too tight?

Hi Michael. That doesn’t seem right. Keep in mind, I don’t use half backs, I use standard bcw boards, as well as some other brands with the standard one sided gloss. And I’ve never had a problem whatsoever. But half backs are - or were - extremely thin, so I don’t think thickness would be a problem. Where did you buy the Mylar from and are the half backs egerber? The only thing I can think of is if you got a batch of boards that were cut slightly off, or you got a batch of Mylar that were pulled too tight. I would get a tape measure and measure the boards exactly down to 1/16th of an inch.

I’ve used thousands of 7 inch Mylar with 6 7/8 inch boards over the years with no problem.

@JernosComicsPopCulture I got the BCW brand bags and boards. I thought maybe it was a thick comic but I have tried multiple comics from new to 90's and they are really tight. The bag and board are not "bowed" but the comic is slightly puckered in there.

@@misfitmike13 So technically the boards are the standard BCW boards? This is definitely a red flag that I have never experienced before. Definitely do some measuring, and I would reach out to BCW. They are very good at working with customers. Please email me if there is anything else I might be able to do to help: captainjernocomics@gmail.com

@JernosComicsPopCulture Yes, they are the standard BCW boards (Regular, 6 7/8 x 10 1/2). I will measure them for sure. Mind if I send some pictures to your email clarifying what is happening?

BCW Thick bags (that's a 7 inch bag) with boards that are 6 7/8 inch wide. That will give you a nice snug fit with a nice white boarder on each side.
