This is one of the most innovative shows I have ever seen, and I find it deeply moving. I can’t get through a single day without thinking back on this series, catching myself feeling provoked to gaze into my own vast pool of mirrored self-reflection. Jerrod Carmichael and Ari Katcher have truly conjured something heartfelt and artistically important with “Jerrod Carmichael Reality Show.”

Damn anonymous sounds a lot like bo burnham

This show is amazing in so many ways.

This was TRUE REALITY TV. Dude is lucky to have a friend to help him display and get through his life. I hope Jarrod's mom stops comparing him to anything and tearing him down, just love him as he is and I hope his dad heals and lets him find his half siblings.

This was the best interview he has done in regards to this show. One thing I’ve noticed most interviewers doing is “sticking up” for his family and friends involved in the show due to their discomfort . But no one has seemed to reflect or acknowledge Jerrod’s discomfort his entire life. While I don’t agree with everything Jerrod did in this show, nor with anything everyone does, it’s interesting that these conversations have proven his point. Even in his journey for himself, he still has to be over considerate of other people’s thoughts and feelings. That same level of consideration has cost him greatly internally within himself. This is the only interview where that is truly explored. And also not just focusing on the "shocking' or "sexual" moments but it's true purpose which is to show the 100% authentic experience of a human being finding themselves and navigating every other aspect as well. Not the "buttoned-up" approach but just the real truth.

I relate to Jerrod as a character & as a person. Tbh, I've never seen a Black man be this vulnerable on camera. It's like eavesdropping on someone's entire personality, and not just the highlights, the Instagram posts, and the performance. I enjoy the fact that he's unlikable on camera, and that he's comfortable with this fact. That's a true reality show.

He is a brave brave man! The level of disrespect from his family is mega mad inappropriate and sad. I can really identify, many of my family members make it about them. You have to realize you may want peoples validation, but you don't need it!

I’d prefer to see the version that would have been directed by a black director and crew. People who would have allowed the family and friends to let down their guard. The way it was structured you could feel a power imbalance in every scene with family and friends almost shrinking back. And also, Jerrod trolls and disrespects them long before they ever discuss his sexuality and I believe that was a type minstrel act for his white voyeurs with cameras. The way this camera treats the humiliation of elder black people as comic relief, stayed with me in the worst way. A black crew would have minimum asked themselves if they’re creating an anthropological show for white audiences to marvel at black family dynamics OR telling a universal story on a medium which has for a century diminished black Southerner working folk into ignorant and illiterate avatars.

Weird how the producer was worried because if she started to except him there would be no content. 2 episodes lost? Really? I feel like they were nitpicking everything she was saying on purpose for content and the way he ambushed his father like that just doesn't sit right with me. We see enough exploitation on the internet
