I completely understand this dude, I’m much more private but I understand him completely. I chose not to watch the special due to being fully aware of what he’s dealing wit. Especially coming from a religious family. I can’t change who I am, trust me I’ve tried but you can’t forgive me for something out of my control but you can forgive infidelity and things of that nature. I won’t even touch the Blackness of it all, it damn sure isn’t a community. The man went where he is accepted and loved, unfortunately he hasn’t seen the evil side of those people yet. He will learn they are just as worst, he’s a trending topic right now so they will jump all over him but once the newness wears off they will discard him as well. It’s lonely out there. I was there at one point, but I’ve given up on love from anyone. I’ve leaned love isn’t for me. The one person I would make a tree bleed and a clown frown showed me our connection wasn’t as real as I felt it was and that was my mother. The woman has broken my heart more times than I should have allowed. It’s a hard pill to swallow when you haven’t caused anyone any type of hardships but everyone else that has, still has everyone’s full support even those that intentionally cause trouble. I get Jerrod “cry for Love” it’s heart breaking,

Please try to learn about grace. I'm older than both you and Jerrod and have suffered many of the same judgements and abuse. I'm private too and so, do NOT agree with airing our private affairs in front of them folks. They are treacherous and many a black walk directly into their traps. On rare occasion, myself as well. I have lived in Africa, Asia, and Europe. Please know that our God spirit provides love on this planet, even if we may have to travel far to experience it. Love is also present here in the LOST USA. I am not an optimist. When I examine the totality of human suffering worldwide, I feel less happy. I divorced my parents decades ago, but I wish them well and have MOSTLY let them and a few of the trials go. Ask god to help you find love elsewhere. I think I have some peace because I know my parents loved me, but their limited life experience precluded their development of compassion. Be easy on yourself first and then your family. I am highly educated and well traveled. I KNOW them folks in America are lost, even though they appear to have power. Funny thing is I have very little materially, but they are incredibly INTIMIDATED by me. Go figure. Your comments struck me because we have much in common. I just want you to know that there is love here NOW. We only have to accept the way God brings it to us. Sometimes that is NOT our family. I've seen many a face light up when they see me. They recognize I am God's manifestation of good on this earth. One of many, just like YOU. Kind regards my friend! With love.

I’m glad that Jerrod was able to share his point of view and context for the series, it helped me better understand it. I’m also a huge fan of Tamron, but this interview was hard for me to watch because she was bringing a lot of her own bias and stances into it, it didn’t feel as objective as it should have been. I cringed when she told him, I don’t believe you”. 😢
@trenaoakley9497
@trenaoakley9497 Ай бұрын
I'm curious what bias you thought Tamron brought? I'm glad she asked questions many of us thought while watching. I'm glad he is in a freer place on his journey, but if he really wants a relationship with his family he has to remember relationships require both people to make efforts. He isolated himself from his family as a form of protection first (understandably so) and now that he has given himself the time and space he needed to love and accept himself for who he is he has to do the same for his family. He has to love and accept them for who they are (not who he wishes them to be), meet them where they are, and give them time to grow & change. It takes time to build relationships and change takes baby steps. But if both make continued efforts the relationship can heal and hearts can change.

Jerrod is very manipulative I’ve noticed. We see it many times in his series, towards his 3 friends, towards his boyfriend etc. He genuinely thinks he’s the smartest guy in the room. Tamron sees through his superficial charm and tried to push for a less rehearsed interview. That’s exactly what he needs because otherwise he’ll just go around pushing a false sob story.

She’s a Christian. His lifestyle is a sin as per her faith. She’s merely explaining that even if he were the worst type of sinner, she would still love him. If you watch the series, she compromises her faith plenty for him. She even invites his boyfriend into her home with hugs multiple times. But Jerrod can’t meet her halfway. She must denounce her faith at age70 for him to be happy.

Tamron held his feet to the fire. I am not sure what Jerrod reason was for doing the reality show because the only thing that he seemed to have benefitted from was the HBO check. Jerrod is still estranged from his parents. Jerrod has damaged a friendship with Tyler. Jerrod has broken trust with his lover because of his serial cheating. Jerrod is a sex addict. There is no healing or freedom as he proclaims. It is a great reality show in terms of ratings, but this man is in crisis.

This interview did not feel respectful to the guest. As each question continued, I felt a small balloon of anxiety continue to grow, popping only when Tamron asked, “Was it worth it?” It felt like a gut punch. Asking someone who has spent a lifetime weaving the heaviest of lies, who has finally unburdened everyone with his truth, if it was worth it, as if the alternative would have had a happy ending. So many youth suffer in this country because their parents can’t see past the shame. And most don’t make it out alive. So yes, to have this complicated puzzle of a man still here was worth it. Shame on you for asking.

I can tell you didn’t watch his series. It wasn’t worth it because relationships that were healing by the end ofthe series have now been destroyed, not because he’s gay but the show. His parents are cool with his boyfriend by the end of the series. He has violated them in other ways. He’s included an issue that he was explicitly asked not to include by his father. He’s included scenes of extreme promiscuity, including a now open gay relationship where they both sleep with strangers from apps. He’s constantly seen taking mushrooms. There is no good parent on earth that would be ok with what he aired. So the question “was the paycheck worth losing your family” is very apt here.

Why ask him if he gave his homophobic mother grace for the hatred masked as Christianity that she's displaying? That's so diminishing to have to do/think through as someone that had to live in a mental and emotion prison for their entire upbringing. It's also not his responsibility. She's the parent and the onus is on her to grow and develop as a person. Also, if his mother is that devout of a Christian, she needs to go be a nun. Lastly, he needs to stop interacting with her; she's a lost cause. She's not loving or supportive and forcing himself to communicate with her will continue to re-traumatize him.
