Stephen Barncard have you ever spoken to appropriate folks to crowd fund a double-disc, soundboard release of PERRO Sessions? Music fans everywhere would rejoice in unison when that moment occurs.
@sbarncar
@sbarncar 7 жыл бұрын
the mixing of and mastering would be the fun part. The money management, documentation, survey, and rights management tasks are gargantuan. The 25 or so reels from Crosby's sessions 1970 will have to be thoroughly examined and no-one wants to pay for that. Until I know what's there, I can't honestly crowd-fund either. At this point I have a 16 track Stephens machine and David's gracious offer to loan me the tapes from his vault. I will have to hire someone for the rights part, and I know who she should be. But I have to pay her. There's also the issue of the 200 or so images that Jim Marshall took during the sessions, the only other photographer besides Ellen Burke and I who were there (incredibly!) They have to be in this collection, for history's sake. Jim and later Jim's estate wanted a LOT of money in front just to see galley proofs, but I saw the 'shoebox' of Jim's photos during the CSN box set project and I know they exist.

Stephen Barncard it would be a worthwhile undertaking and likely a strong seller given all the various bands that comprise PERRO (dead, airplane, csny). That's a fairly broad fan base, albeit one that is sadly diminishing with each passing year. Which means there's no time like the present to commence this project. The Jim Marshall photos must be incredible - I've seen a couple in recent years (there's the famous one of David Crosby, Jerry Garcia & Neil Young recording Cowboy Movie that got published a few years back). Would this bootleg even be out there if not for Paul Kantner? Isn't he the one who let it get out when Graham Nash gave him a copy back in the 1990s???

this is "life changing inspiring" music.....it inspired me and changed my life ..I DID MAKE THE MOUNTAINS BE MY HOME...I left the BS nation of the USA.....leaving all that I ever knew in my life... sold all my stuff....and went to Europe with not much money........not knowing anything about what life I would find here really, but I met a beautiful lady here in south of France..in the mountains, and we are married now, living here in the middle of a mountains "paradise"....I will never go back to the BS USA nation again to live.....I miss my really good friends there, true..... but I had no family anymore.....they all thought I was just a crazy hippie, artist , musician, etc.... and rejected me..disowned me, because of the people I hung out with..... other artists, musicians etc...like me.........Here I have a new family, a new life........its because my mind was opened up with music like this.....this kind of music formed the kind of person I am today...and I am so grateful for that.......

I don't care if it's just tuning or working on music it still is good to me and thats all that counts. Try not to eximine it just try and listen to it. If you don't like it move on to something else.

@@sbarncar The problem with your mansplaining statement is that you feel your thinking is the only one that is right, and I don't understand that egotism. A profoundly ignorant statement. Let's look at what you wrote: "it was effortless"? Effortless is a meaningless word. There was great effort behind this. .That doesn't mean it isn't beautiful. You're one of those older men that can't resist 'correcting' someone.

I am not a snob. I am the guy that recorded it. The people deserve better audio but the fact that it was copied over and over as a boot pretty much destroyed the 'commercial potential' that would have allowed a much better mix and release through the copyright owner. It would have already happened. Now Rhino or whoever it is now won't touch it.

About a year ago I was wondering what a jam with Jerry and Jorma would be like, and lo & behold here it is, like some enduring relic of an important but mundane origin found along the way. Thank you. The unity in the PERRO sessions for me is being reminded of the creative world as a place to be both humble and exploratory. Paul Kantner and his friends left a musical trail here that is helpful to stumble across, and recognize, as if for the first time.

Gram was the power, for the six months he was there. It was McGuinn's band, of course, though Gram shaped their legacy from then on. McGuinn does not like to share the spotlight, though doing so has served him mighty well. Dylan covers, anyone?

I found these audio files downloaded on my external hard drive having forgotten I had them.I couldn't remember what P.E.R.R.O. stood for but I knew Crosby and at least Nash and The GD were involved.So I looked it up and found this,read the notes in the description and now my memory is refreshed and the best part is I have two discs of great music I can listen to with some of my favorite musicians involved.Oh and my version is also pitch corrected so that's really great.Thank you for posting this!!!!!

Kids and Dogs is sublime. It's polished on the re-issue of If Only I could Remember My Name. I'm somewhere else listening to this tune.

this sounds like so many other musicians just jamming and experimenting with different things...except its OUTSTANDING even in its rough form. I'd would rather listen to these guys tune their guitars than listen to most bands today play at all.

15. Mountain Song #4 16. Tamalpais High (at about 3) aka Kids and Dogs The Planet Earth Rock and Roll Orchestra (PERRO) was a loose affiliation of musicians who recorded many sessions at Wally Heider's Studio. This recording is a collection of some of those sessions. The personnel on this recording include: Jerry Garcia, Jorma Kaukonen, Jack Casady, David Crosby, Paul Kantner, David Freiberg, Mickey Hart, Grace Slick, Graham Nash, Bill Kreutzmann, Phil Lesh and Spencer Dryden.

This is all just lovely, providing a wonderful insight to all the artists represented here. A truly stunning collection of songs,while some are rough they give one a sense of how songs evolve. It is utterly amazing these recordings survived and we are lucky to be able to hear such a fabulous collection of songs and artists!

Started and did not finish...David is my heart... in Newport RI, my daughter dying of cancer, and David in a fit of no appreciation for the the idiots with cameras was told that this one is special in a whisper. His words were, from what my daughter told me were .."Hello Dear" ... in an instant with a complete change of attitude, he understood. I always loved David, but on that day, if he had not, I wouldn't have. He did though.
