Performed 20 yrs after the Gold Record version (flip of "Great Balls"), this is the closest Jerry Lee came to recreating the pace and mood of the original Sun hit. He rises above the restraining Nashville Sound TV treatment and performs his ass off.

This is rare, as Jerry Lee is doing this in the original key of "F" as he did on the Sun recording 20 yrs earlier. Most live versions are in the higher key of "G". The TV arrangement and setting tames Jerry's unpredictability and results in a strong performance.

It is certain that they knew each other. The Wiki article on the Million Dollar Quartet refers briefly to them as "a group of friends". Anyway, there was a massive amount of talent all gathered around one piano. I've read and heard that Elvis left the session early, because he didn't want to follow JLL. Don't know if it's true. But Jerry Lee would be one tough act to follow.

Jerry Lee called Elvis, "the best friend I never had!" According to Tom Jones, Elvis said Jerry was "crazy." "I've avoided that man for fifteen years!"
