Very true. As someone who loves the entire history of TV to see where things have evolved, this show can be plucked right out of the 1950s/60s and still be just as entertaining today as it was back then. The characters drive the show rather than the settings or surroundings. The show could have been filmed in a phone booth as long as the characters and the lines they were given remained the same.

Why Gee Willikers Billy K, I pretty much think everyone lives in a house with a price tag under 700,000.00 dollars feels YOUR pain. Lol I had a friend in a 900,000.00, home back in 06. Total pussy Magnet home. Well worth over a million now. Every bedroom had a bathroom and the master bedroom was as big as the living room, kitchen, and the second and third living room, but the reguar bedrooms was smaller than Wally and Beavers room. Man I swear to god I wish I could afford that place

As the child characters age, it kind of takes the innocence out of the show. It's hard to have a 18 year old getting involved in the antics of 5,6,7 year olds.

Still love the show! To be able to look up to the characters of a show that actually show respect for one another. Hollywood is now bent on making what was once good now seem odd. Sad.

Those were the good "ole" days, when life was so innocent. Sure wish we could go back in time to revisit the innocence. When we got in trouble then, our parents disciplined us--and we weren't involved in criminal acts that required the police to get involved. I think those days of innocence are long gone, and we will never see them again--we live in a country now that sees youth out of control with no one teaching them right from wrong--what happened to our country? How did we get so off track?
@JohnDoe-hf6tk10 жыл бұрын
God has, is, and always will be in control, Jesus is God, and according to his Word in Ecclesiastes everything happens for a reason and in its time-so all of what has EVER gone on is part of God's Sovereign design and plan and including bible prophecy also, so 'we've' never been in control, Jesus has, still is, always will be, so there was never any track to get off of-God is in total control.
@JohnDoe-hf6tk10 жыл бұрын
speak for yourself-the whole world, even America back then wasn't 'innocent' fake tv shows -scores of them-music-all kinds of things just painted life a certain way-unrealistic -how many people DIDN'T live 'that' way or think-agree 'that' soda fountain bullshit way, they wanna paint everyone as 'squares' 'robots' and 'dumbasses' back then for their 'ideal cookie cutter world' -its a nauseous thing-glad its gone-when they see 'it' didn't work, when REALITY overrided their 'finely tuned system' - I'm reminded of a great movie THE TRUMAN SHOW with jim carey, how his character finally naturally God givenly sees the reality of the fake bullshit 50s like stuff around him, says fuck it, goes for broke, risking his life, rather dying than living in a bullshit fake 'world' like he was, its too deep for words-self explanatory, anyone living in a fantasy world err also 50s world view should see the movie, and another good movie along these lines to see I think would be PLEASANTVILLE with tobey Maguire and jeff daniels.

+sofiameanswisdom You're absolutely right! I grew up in the mid to late 1950s and I remember those great shows on television! In those days, children respected their parents, senior citizens and all authority figures, no matter who they were. I realize that every generation has its problems, but with a little faith, all that could be overcome! Unlike today, evil rules and governs our society! Godlessness, carnal pleasures and sinful actions determine how we should live our lives. Not for good, but for evil! Remember, our days are numbered and we will be held accountable for every thought, word and deed performed in our lives!!

The episode where Eddie Haskel murdered the high school Principal was just strange and left so many questions, like how did Eddie get the body into the trunk all by himself? How did he get the key to the fence surrounding the abandoned quarry where he dumped the body? Did he have help? Was it Wally?
@charleswillsonpeale57398 жыл бұрын
+kev3d I know, I was like, wtf will Ward help Eddie move the body by lowering him into the quarry with the crane or, will he just sit there breathing the stench of rotting flesh ? Plus, as you mentioned Eddie was too puny to be moving such a large chest by himself. Think about it, how did Lumpy's jalopy get inside the fence surround like that ? Who knew Wally was banging Judy Hensler ? Why did they show that graphic basement scene ? Made no sense. It didn't help move the plot along either. What a cliff hanger. smh
@kev3d8 жыл бұрын
+Charles Wilson Peale The sex scene between Miss Landers and June seemed a little gratuitous as well. I mean, most people are okay with lesbian love affairs, but did they really need to show all of the S&M stuff? And let's not forget poor Whitey, who was framed for operating the local reefer distribution ring, and committed suicide in his Jail cell. That show took some dark turns.
@charleswillsonpeale57398 жыл бұрын
kev3d That was just creepy. Almost as weird as Tooey and Larry hiding out at Uncle Billy's place. They were suppose to be cleaning offices at Fred Rutherford's building. EVERYBODY knows that. Jerry, you seem like you truly did grow up on LITB, and that you are the product of it... in being such a wonderfully, well rounded individual. America also has benefitted greatly from watching LITB, ...with all of the morals, family values, etc... so I say it's definitely a WIN-WIN! It is truly a shame that our nation has lightened/lifted all of the restrictions ---Of course, I'm not referring to the one re: the bathroom being shown, but most assuredly, those ones that have given us this horrid ANYTHING GOES type of tv that we see today!!! It also is wonderful knowing that you all have managed to grow up so beautifully, stayed away from the typical downfalls that have taken the lives of so many of our young people in celebrity, and that you are just such a fantastic person!! I know the support you were given must of been wonderful, in order for you kids to have been able to sidestep all of Hollyweird evil snags! We hear of Justin Bieber today, stating that all Hollywood children are victims of abuse... I would pray that someone, such as yourself, could somehow work to bring a safe place back to children actors... thus possibly even being able to place our nation back on track. GOD BLESS!

Good going, Jerry! What great memories of my family and I watching LITB, way back then. And I still watch the reruns. I've learned so much about nutrition in the past ten months, because I'm recovering from an 11 month chronic illness caused by a life of eating junk foods. I've done it by diet change and natural health methods. I've lost about 40 lbs, and am at the perfect weight, now, for my body type. 160 lbs, and holding steady. I cut out refined flours and sugar, also refined vegetable oils. And making/consuming (lectin-reduced sprouted) grains/flours, other than hopeless wheat, to add fiber to a low- carb diet. Pretty much all bulk foods. I'm not totally healed, yet. But the detox can take a few years.

People say the show isn't realistic, but if you watch the show closely, it actually is very realistic! Beaver is not a nice kid, he lies to his parent's and teacher's constantly! He gets into fist fights with his classmates including girls, the only people that think he is nice is his parent's! It is also implied that Ward does smack Beaver around at times. Wally alludes to this on many occasions, by saying "You going to hit him dad?" Also, most of Beaver's friend's come from really bad homes and are always talking about their dad's smacking them around! Beaver towards the end of the show, starts to be really mean to Wally and constantly gives him the business! Really watch the show with adult eyes, although it's a great show, it is not about the ideal perfect family and kid's, it's actually very realistic, you just have to read between the lines!

That was the way it was back in the day. Today you're not allowed to lay a hand on a kid, but back then your parents whacked you, and even the teachers and principals at school whacked you! Remember "The Strap"? I damn near got it a few times! And I can still feel the sting of the teacher's ruler or pointer! Maybe that's why there's so much crime today. Kids grow up without any discipline!

I agree, the Beave's uncle Billy was an alcoholic who coerced him to steal booze for him. There's an episode with an exchange student where racism and bigotry are dealt with. For the person who mentioned "Westerns" and "Natives", if you pay attention, many of the Western movies and TV shows of the 50s and 60s were morality plays written by left leaning writers using the Western theme to promote liberal ideology, in very much the same way Rod Sterling did with Twilight Zone, and Gene Roddenberry did with Start Trek, which in many ways was a Western set in space. The show was revolutionary in that it was the first on TV to be written from the perspective of a child, and in many ways is the precursor for the long running TV animation show, The Simpsons!

SHICOFF1 Among the many great characters, Lumpy and (of course) Eddie were my favs. Frank Bank wrote an autobiography, which I read years ago. I don't remember what he wrote about any of the other actors, but, according to him (and he's pretty believable), he was quite the popular stud. (Star-fucking is nothing new!) If Frank was getting action, can you imagine how much tail Tony and Ken were nailing (assuming they were into it)?
@srbaruchi6 жыл бұрын
JENDALL714 EXCELLENT points! There WERE a lot of references to corporal punishment (CP). Since you never saw that in the Cleaver (or other) household(s), the assumption could be that CP was used (we have no idea of the frequency), but that Ward was much more oriented toward "talking it out with his boys," often letting them absorb the consequences of their behavior w/o the embellishment of any tough love or CP.
@nehemiahmarcus3085 жыл бұрын
I don't think there has ever been a time to compare to the post-war years back then. All the returning veterans (Ward Cleaver was a veteran in the show) received so many benefits to make their lives better, the birth of the suburbs (Mayfield was one such suburb) provided a safe and family friendly neighborhood. The economy was great, there was no extreme wage gap, a strong middle class and there were so many good things going on back in that era. I am not saying we don't still have good people in this age compared to the past, but most things back in that time were directed towards the strength of the family.

I just watched an episode this morning where the father talks about Socrates and Demosthenes. The show is much more intelligent than most people realize.

Several years ago, I stumbled across the original 'pilot' on KZfaq, but I don't think it ever aired. I believe the entire cast ( EXCEPT for Jerry Mathers....) was different actors.

He gave good info regarding diabetes. One thing, however, that Jerry Mathers said that wasn't quite accurate: he said that LITB was the first series to show a bathroom, but I remember an I love Lucy scene- early 50's- before LITB- in which Ricky was in the bathroom. I think he was shaving or something. No, it didn't show a toilet, so maybe LITB was the first to show even the back of the toilet!

There was at least 1 "I love lucy" episode that showed a bathroom (pre-dating "L.I.T.B.") where Ricky was in the shower and Lucy was in the bathroom washing her face in the sink.

I watched Leave it to Beaver this morning (I'm 52 y/o). And at work I love quoting "Leave it to Beaver" (I drive a forklift for FEDEX); one of my favorites is something along the line of "...'cause girls are all creepy and junk like that, huh Wally?"

What was behind the reruns stopped airing of the New Leave It To Beaver in the early 1990's was the occurances of the Beaver grounding his kids for stuff they gotten into which was too upsetting to the viewers like in 1987 with the New Monkees being short lived because the characters could'nt leave their house O.K!!!

Couldnt show a bathroom?!?! I knew about the same bed scenario in any adult couples bedroom, but a bathroom?!?! What were they trying to hide??? Its not a strip tease. Its not as if every American home didnt have a bathroom in it or an outhouse. Ridiculous.

mona n now look at society. There arrrrrrrre no more censors. T.V. and film get away with anything and everything now which I DONT necessarily concur with. Some things need to be pure and left untouched.
inkey2 One of the top five TV series of all time. I watched it for years in reruns...

I don't know if I believe that they all got along, never fighting, during the 6 season processes. But, I am sure they got along, (with much more class), much better then they do in hollywood today. Today, we see it off the screen all the time,---hollywood does not know how to "act".
