This is a great interview and thank you! The first sitcom I remember watching was “Leave It To Beaver,” as a three-year old. They were the last season reruns shown in the late afternoon after “T-Bar-V Ranch Time” in Louisville, KY. I’ve been watching ever since! Love you all!! ❤️

I loved EDDIE ! Ken was able to put layers in the character. I would see a tender side , a undercurrent of insecurity , that just drew me in . I liked those layers . He was not just a villain. I liked each character for the difference . They had a variety of each personality . . None of them were dull , & each had something different to give . I am Jerry’s age & i binge watch the show ! I miss the world they gave us. . I watch it straight through on peacock , & it sucks me into a calming mode . THAT WORLD IS THE WORLD WE ALL SHOULD HAVE IN REALITY .

Burt Mustin's first film was in 1951 and he was 67. He acted in what was called the Pittsburgh Savoyards in the 30's and 40's.

If that audio clip did still exist it was likely lost in the 2008 back-lot fire: along with so much other valuable Video and Audio files.

I've always thought the opening was voiced by Hugh Beaumont. Is this true ?

I don't think it sounds like Hugh, but who knows?

The first two seasons had an opening intro voiced by Hugh Beaumont where he would give a summation of the episode ("Boys sure get into trouble, don't they? Watch what happens to a little boy who lies about a toy, tonight on Leave it to Beaver!") When the show switched networks for season 3, the intro was simpler ("Leave It to Beaver! Starring Hugh Beaumont, Barbara Billingsley, Tony Dow, and Jerry Mathers as 'The Beaver'") which was voiced by Bern Bennett.

His mother was sort of crazy, and started making a bunch of demands like he should get top billing next to Jerry Mathers. When his contract was up the producers simply didn't draft a new one.

Beaver could come up with a script in a heartbeat. He had been playing it out in his head for years. He just has to punk Eddie Haskel by claiming he could catch more fish than Eddie. "Oh, yeah, squirt?". They have to climb down some steep rocks to get to the lake. Beaver wakes up early and pours cooking oil all over the rock face. When Eddie balks, Beavers says, "You aren't ascared are you Eddie?" Lumpy doesn't fall for that so easily and requires a helpful nudge from the Beav. Beaver is the hero for calling the fire department. Hugh notices an odd smell at the site, reminds him of June's cooking. Has a little talk with the Beaver in his study that night. They have a good laugh over a 12-year-old Scotch on the rocks together. June didn't approve until she heard what happened. Then she decided a little nightcap sounded good to her too.

@K Paula Mck Ha! I'm already out over my skis. 🙃I can't even remember what my first post was a response to. But it might open up some plot ideas. I grew up watching the Beav. I'll have to check it out. It sounds familiar, but I do not recall any of the details.

@K Paula Mck You may regret encouraging me. I might need to write in some new characters. In the mid-'80s cable was relatively new, and I went through a phase of rewatching it on TBS. What amazed me was how well the show held up. It was better than I remembered it. The two creators/writers were exceptionally talented.

@K Paula Mck Even better than TV in that era was the music. I had older siblings who listened to Elvis, The Everly Brothers, Buddy Holly, etc. and even had sock-hops in our basement when I was young. So, I was exposed to their music. Then when I was 12 my radio alarm went off for school to "I Want To Hold Your Hand". I couldn't believe it. Had never heard anything like that. I was just getting into my teens when "The British Invasion" bands took over the airwaves. A magical time for rock and roll and to be a teenager. As much as Elvis and other bands in the 50's were a change from Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, etc., and big band orchestras, it was nothing like the sudden flood of sounds from bands like the Beatles, Stones, and all the others that followed.
