Jerry Reed is one of the best guitarists AND entertainers of all time. You can tell he's having a blast, and that it's genuine. To see him and Glen Campbell, pickin and grinnin on a summer day on the lake, surrounded by a huge crowd... now that's my idea of heaven. Forgive me for sounding cliche, but it really doesn't get any better than this.

So right about the moment they were having there. Jerry Reed is about as pure as it gets also. His vibrant personality comes out no matter what he was doing. Makes goose bumps watching him entertain. He was of course a genius on the guitar.

I agree. Jerry Reed will go down in history as the most underrated musician, actor, and entertainer of all time. He's clearly a legendary guitarist and singer that too many may only know him as merely the Truck driver in Smokey and the Bandit.

Burt Reynolds was a fan of Jerry's music and was surprised at how funny Jerry was. It's said that the summer replacement show convinced Burt to cast Jerry in "W.W. and the Dixie Dance Kings". Except that Mr. Toussaint's rendition of his song was smooth and melodic and didn't really contain the Dixieland whimsy you referred to. In all honesty, I like Allen Toussaint's version a lot, but I *LOVE* Glen's version. The Dixieland Whimsy (outstanding description, BTW) is what speaks to me. Another song he sped up was "Galveston." Jimmy Webb's version was slower and more somber in tone. I don't think Mr. Toussaint or Mr. Webb had a problem with Glen's tweaking of their songs. He made them the $ucce$$e$ they became. For the record, "Southern Nights" is my favorite of Glen Campbell's hits. This is my favorite version of this song.

Mister Kayaker Sixty Nine, I'm sorry to break it to ya, but that's how time works. A classic era of music, for sure, but in fact, gone forever. Welcome to 2017!

just read the article featuring his daughter communicating with him through music. tears in my eyes, recalling my summer nights in Taylor, Texas, at my grandparents' home and the Glen Campbell's summer replacement show in the 60's, all mixed together...
