I really don't know who these angry cancel culture mobs are anymore. Not long ago, it was "comedians can't say anything without getting cancelled!". Now it's "Well, comedians get a pass". The offended parties are so rare. I lived in LA for 10 years. My friends weren't offended by much. It's a minority crowd getting a lot of attention, I think mostly on Twitter but now I don't even know. I'm not saying it isn't real. I just think the internet is 5% people being offended and 95% people acting like they're under attacked by the easily offended. I think we're all doing fine and just like the feeling (or "excuse" when your movie sucks) of being a victim.

Always Sunny in Philadelphia is way more wild than Seinfeld albeit it’s on FX. Also, always sunny was pitched & picked up like 21 years ago or something and got more and more wild as it went. I don’t think IASIP, how it was in its tenth season, would get greenlit if it was pitched to studios today without its proven track record.

Love you guys but it's like you're being willfully ignorant. We all love Jerry's old sitcom, but what did he do just now? He put out a new movie that is such soft saccharine trash that a five year old girl would think it wasn't edgy enough, while simultaneously financing some extreme right wing proud boys to go violently attack an anti war protest on a college campus! And then he's complaining about what the far left won't let you do, not because he's trying to push any boundaries in comedy, because clearly he's not, it's because he's pro war and literally putting up money for right wing extremists in this country to destroy kids having their own free speech! If this was the 60's he'd be complaining that these dirty hippies have no respect and how the war in Vietnam is a good thing.

that's not really true, because when Chappelle does his (imo unfunny and repetitive) trans jokes, Netflix employees protest and it gets blown up on TMZ. Because Chappelle is practically uncancable due to his status and the money he brings in, it didnt leave a dent, but other comics arent as lucky and have to watch what they say. There is stuff that never gets made because comics already know it will get them a shit storm and they might lose deals.

Sitcoms sell consumer trash and are unwatchable without a laugh track. Who gives a flying fk on a rolling donut about any of them? Seinfeld was not funny. It was formulaic nonsense. It's a widely known joke among the producers of that show that they could make anything work if it follows their formula to a laugh track. Sitcoms are the lowest of the low hanging fruit in the comedy world. Well, until this tsunami of dog water podcasts hit the scene...
@maxmeier532

You are thinking very highly of yourself and it's apparent there is nothing of substance to back that hybris up. There is a couple hundreds of million people at any given time that disagree with you when you say Seinfeld wasnt funny. The show is still running on television and streaming services all around the world, 25 years after if went off air. Larry David as a creator and Larry Charles as one of the writers have track records as genius comedy writers. You aint in the position to question that. Also, Seinfeld didnt have a laugh track. That was a live audience. You are just angry about something else that you cant address in your real life because it would require talent, conviction and endurance.

@@dustina.6732 When you watch the Seinfeld show, you can clearly distinguish the writing that is original Larry David. Now it's easier because we know Curb, but it was possible to tell even back then. It's absolutely obvious that a story like Mulva is LD's original idea. There is the famous story about how Jason Alexander told Larry that he finds the storyline about going back to work after you quit, pretending it didnt happen too far from reality, and Larry told him that it actually happened to Larry. Because in the show there is almost always Seinfeld's standup bits included beginning and end, you can clearly tell what kind of jokes Seinfeld did and which he didnt do. He is the observational guy.

I don’t think they won’t do edgy sitcoms anymore because they’re edgy, I just think the culture is not interested in sitcoms anymore in general. So the last leg of them doing it are safe bets/4 quadrant. What they’re saying you can’t do anymore still exists: Louie, Mo, Insecure, Maron, Always Sunny, Broad City. They just don’t look like the traditional sitcom anymore. Audiences like long form narrative with substance instead of light punchlines with a formula they are used to

Me stand h in the same room as Seinfeld losing his temper, and see how “vanilla” you still think he is. 15+ years ago there was a Seinfeld round table discussion with the Seinfeld, Larry David, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Michael Richar/x and Jason Alexander. I don’t think the hatchet had been completely buried yet between Seinfeld and Larry David, and when Seinfeld addressed Larry David abandoning the show, you could catch a very small glimpse of what he would be like if he lost his cool, and he would bite your head off. It’s very subtle, but it’s there. also have a bad temper. Although, I’ve learned to control it, if you can spot it, you probably got it.

“Could Seinfeld possibly be saying that there are more constraints on subject matter and language in TV comedies today than in the 1970s and 1980s? There’s probably just a handful of half hour of comedies produced in the last 25 years that could have been aired uncut on a network in the ‘70s and ‘80s. The topics, the language, the sexual content of even the tamest new comedies would have made a 1975 network censor’s head explode.” - Ruben Bolling

The only people i noticed that are pushing back on Seinfeld’s PC remarks are the political podcasts like The Hill, Breaking Points, Jimmy Dore and Sam Seder. What do they all have in common? They are on the side that Israel is committing Genocide and Seinfeld took a position of defending Israel (because he’s obviously Jewish). Sam Seder even drudged up Jerry’s book from 1992 and parsing quotes that were clearly in a different context 30 years ago. They are all annoying political podcasts that preach to their specific choir and took Seinfeld’s remarks and totally missed his point.
