The only problem with that is that Zach buys these phones outright. He doesn't get sent phones from companies. So it'd be very hard to pull off such a feat when you're playing "find the needle in the haystack" with a phone out in the world. Imagine opening up your new phone only to find that engraved on it hahaha

4:15 looks and snaps like sintered metal. Essentially heat pressing metal powder and a binder in a form. Probably cheaper than casting and machining but definitely not strong.

Something I haven't seen mentioned in any of these teardown videos... It looks like replacing the rear glass is a nightmare because the wireless charging coils are glued to the inside of the glass. So, the most common repair will require a full teardown.

I actually had this thought. Since phones barely change each year in terms of specs, why don't phone manufacturer just use the same frame design for all their phones. That way parts from older phone or broken phones can be used to repair and prolong the life of the newer phone. If companies like Samsung and Apple are really advertising and using "Nature conservation" as their excuse for their actions, then they should actually be putting the effort to keep their devices off the landfill for as long as possible. Imagine the convenience if you got a phone, then after a year you got a new phone but the screen broke but you can just repair it by harvesting the screen from your older phone to repair your new phone. I think manufacturers changing the external and internal layout of their phone each year is not only an aesthethic choice but also an active effort to prevent people from recycling parts from older phones.

Just a note about one comment on your video when you talk about the frame. when you design a part you have to "define" how it will work and its "loads". some objects parts are meant to hold a force/position while others are meant to "move" up to a certain degree. In this case a frame is meant to withstand a certain load/Force not to "be able to deflect a certain amount of mm/inches. So normally you want it to be as rigid as posible without breaking. how much it deflects when that load is applied would be a "2nd" level matter (does not mean its meaningless but usually you want it to deform the minimum posible). Regarding the "comment on the fragility" of the frame. Not all metals have high strain at break values. we are accostumed to see a lot of steels that "have high" "bendability". but its not the common rule. Some injection aluminum alloys only "stretch" about 1%. So they are quite brittle even though they are quite "rigid". It's a common mistake to misspick or confuse those two parameters (strain at break and strength at break). Having a low strain at break value does not make it withstand less force, but it just means that the material does not "warn" you it will fail by "deforming it self a lot before breaking it just snaps". You could put an ABS plastic frame that could blend up to 50% elongation without breaking but it will get deformed with a lot less pounds with the same "shape"... while maybe that metalic frame just before breaking was "holding" quite some load. Also you could put an steel frame that may withstand more load and even bend more before breaking but it will transfer less heat... This design decisions are always a compromise because they tend to ususally go in opposing elections. Even though your video clearly shows in my opinon that it should be thicker or have ribs to reinfoce against bending that bending force seems to me like a "common" load case when carrying the phone on your trousers pocket and sitting.
