People who are about to do this, I do not recommend using a razerblade like that! Use a plastic object! To remove the back glass panel.

Usual rule of thumb is to avoid using any metallic implements, instead opting for anti static plastic or non-conductive materials wherever possible. That said, those circumstances in which a Stanley knife/razor blade is the only tool for the job, using an retractable blade and adjusting it down to as short as possible so that the tip is poking out of the knife housing enough to effectively complete your task, but too little to penetrate to the point of damage. I've clearly too much time on my hands eh lol

Man, a total teardown and reassembly, a torturous but sucessful bend test + successful heat test + successful scratch test, then several successful drops on top of that, only one of them causing any cracking, I am very impressed! however as I usually point out the drop tests are not that accurate if the screen has not had normal wear and tear on it, with a few deep scratches here or there. even small scratches can greatly reduce the toughness of the glass and compromise it.

Really brilliant instructional video with a representative phone, thanks. Will now have a go. I am planning to use a plant pot plastic label to slice through the glue as its has a large top to get grip, is thin and bends easily under the battery without removing the mother board, but resists folding under cutting force. From other channels looks like IPA Solvent is very useful in loosening the glue grip and is safe as it is specifically designed for cleaning PCB's and electronic equipment..

I watched this and one other video. Both appear to demo a complete teardown. If only replacing the battery, after removing the backside, is it really necessary to remove the front? from what I can deduce, it appears that the battery should be accessible without having to remove the front.
@eelcok.9727
@eelcok.9727 4 жыл бұрын
DO NOT use a metal tool to pry the connectors! You can easily short the pins of the connectors or some components on the mainboard. Use a plastic tool or your fingernails instead. For the people who cracked their backplate: a hairdryer does not provide enough heat to soften the adhesive glue. Use a heat gun, but be careful not to heat plastic parts directly. They will melt since the air temperature coming from a heat gun is usually around 300 degrees Celsius (570 degrees F). If it does not open easily, you have not applied sufficient heat. Alternatively you can apply a few drops of IPA (not the beer) to the adhesive edge and wait for a few minutes. This will dissolve the glue without damaging plastic parts.

So I bought a new phone, but decided I'd spend the $20 on parts and $10 on shipping just to see if I can fix my old S6. Battery died and I broke the charging port when "cleaning" it. Whoops. I have thrown away phones after they stopped working, but hey if I can learn to fix stuff then why drop hundreds when I can keep my beautiful S6 alive with some surgery? If I can get it to work again it will be my entertainment on the go. Prolonging the longevity of my new phone.

Awesome. I'm just waiting on the comment that is telling you not to use a razor to separate the glue. If you know what you are doing (which you absolutely do) a razor is an amazingly handy tool. That charge port design is stupid. My first thought was yay its a separate flex cable so charge ports are an easy replacement. Nope. I just got decent at doing charge ports on the sgs3 but that is because we finally got a hot air station at my work. Before I was doing it with just a soldering station (iron only) and I was having about a 50% success rate. I got an isesamo that I sanded the front edge to make it a little bit thinner and moved the grips toward the back and its my favorite tool. The sesamo is an amazing tool. it would replace your razor blade and metro card in this video. You could also use it to pop up the flex cables but I prefer to use plastic for that. Maybe I should plasti-dip the back end of mine :-O @Grizzly HP2 no you do not need to remove the front lcd for the battery

JayRay00 Also, he didn't just damage the white paint on the rear panel, he put a dint in the frame where he stuck the knife in. Might have scraped some anodising too when he ran the knife around the edge. But judging by the way he plonked some adhesive down to hold the back on, he doesn't care about a perfect finish.

Thank you for your video. I have a question, I want to open the back of my s6 but I don't need to replace the cover. Is it possible to re-glue the original cover using the same strips? Do I need to heat the glue and then try to reattach it? Will it stick properly or is it going to be slightly flimsy?
@JerryRigEverything
@JerryRigEverything 8 жыл бұрын
+Bo Jax You can totally re use your back glass, as long as it doesn't break when you remove it. It is made of glass so you have a very high probability of it cracking. I linked some double sided tape in the video description so you can re stick the glass back to the phone. (Just dont put the tape on the yellowish antenna segments.)

Hey Jerry I have an interesting question. I swear I'm the only person this happened to because I can't find anything online about it. For my old Galaxy S6 the rear camera leaked some weird gray fluid around some of the camera lense edges. I wasn't able to take pictures anymore since they were super blurry. When it first happened I had to keep focusing the camera for a couple of mintues until it maybe worked. That stop working so I had the shake the phone for a couple of mintues which worked better, but the fluid was still spreading and that stopped working. Zooming in and out does nothing and the camera lense is not cracked, scratched, nor dirty in the slightest. I had to start taking pictures and videos on the front camera like some weirdo but I got pretty good at taking those low quality shots. So my question is what is that weird gray liquid and where did it come from? I did drop it many times (no cracks at all) and the phone glitches out a lot. I recently just found out that the camera is clear when it's super close to something, no more than 5-8inches, but that's really useless for me.

I have a unique fix.. And was wondering what the difficulty of it would be as it doesn't generally involve the LCD so.. Here goes; basically I dropped my S6(oh noe!) And now my REAR Camera GLASS(just the glass, aren't I lucky?!) Is cracked, and I know its just the glass because my camera works perfectly, so my question is would you be able to give me an estimate of how difficult it is/could be? Also if possible maybe the part? Sorry for the long post and other phones I have repaired is GS4 and iPhone4/4S

If you're trying to replace the charging port don't do it. I just tried and I broke the OLED screen. Not worth the risk. He makes it look so easy to remove the screen but trust me it's not.

Hi man, just broke my glass on my s6 and I'm trying to find if it's possible to replace only the glass, the screen and digitizer still work just fine but the glass is cracked and I was planning to give it as a gift to my dad, do you know if it's possible to buy just the glass on the s6 flat?

I was thinking of upgrading my phone to the S6 and was wondering if you remove both cameras will the phone still work , I work in a location were camera are not permitted. They tell us that the camera lens needs to be drilled out and epoxy needs to fill the hole, I have a way to fill the space that the camera came out of, I was just hoping it will still work without both cameras. Also where do you get that double side tape? Also would this also be the same way to remove the cameras from the S6 Edge??
