Great ETF and it is in the semiconductor sectors. SCHD just dropped a huge dividend and VGT has been going absolutely bonkers. I own XLK, VOO, QQQM. I also own individual stocks that I collect dividends and sell covered calls on. I like your insight. Well done!

Welcome aboard! ETFs can be a great way to go. I really like SMH because it has weekly options which can be another way to profit. I sell covered calls which is kind of like renting out your stock.

I’m Canadian and new to investing. I want to invest for the long term. I’m interested to invest in SMH. Should I put it in my TFSA or RRSP? I know people might say it depends, just so you’ll know I earn gross annual income of 100k. And I’m not sure how much should I allocate in RRSP.

Definitely talk to a Canadian tax advisor. But, I'll take a shot with my limited Canadian knowledge. With a 100k income, consider maxing out your RRSP first to get that tax break now. You'll lower your taxable income and pay less tax later when you withdraw in retirement. But if you want flexibility and tax-free growth, put SMH in your TFSA-great for long-term gains without the tax hit. Start with 10-15% of your income in the RRSP, and adjust as needed. Play the long game with your money!

Jerry, SMH is going to $350+. I’ve been doing 6-12 month call options… return has been anywhere from 200%+ to 1000%+ ROI… something you might want to consider… just saying.. 🤷🏼‍♂️

I feel like using this year's returns for analysis isn't a great move. Overall we can see that the more NVDA each ETF held the better they did due to its huge run this year. Yes I know VGT holds a touch more than SOXQ, but this year is an outlier year for tech ETFs, not that they aren't strong other years.

@@JerryRomineStocks I completely agree with the reasoning and logic behind the video, guess I didn't make that very clear at the end of my comment. I own shares of QQQ, VGT, & SOXQ. My only concern is the scope of the analysis used in the comparison would have benefited from a broader time range of to smooth out outliers like the NVDA run and AVGO following it. Just want to make sure the strongest argument & analysis is being made. Glad you are so receptive to feedback! (Also as SOXQ is a new ETF and would limit the time frame, SOXX could have been used as it tracks the same index with some slight month to month variance from SOXQ and a higher expense ration)

They both have similar holdings. SMH has outperformed SOXQ over the last year and it is more liquid with a higher trading volume.

I generally prefer large caps because they generally have a higher trading volume and tighter spreads. And, I really like stocks with weekly options available.
