This is the best phone news I've heard in a long time. I go with Sony phones and I hate that whenever I need a cable at work or out and about everyone has a lightning charger. USB-C/thunderbolt is so much better and universal charging is very important imo. We have standardized ports for a reason. If Apple brought back the headphone jack I'd consider giving them a try again.

This has certainly got me considering changing to the 15 Pro from the 14. I like to do some vlogging and the option to store direct to an external storage device really appeals especially as I take a lot of video whilst on extended trips including backpacking and often find the storage capability on the phone is reached. 😊So thank you for your video. Definitely thought provoking. I appreciate several of the comments refer to what an Android phone can already do and I don’t doubt that but I don’t want to change to an Android phone.

I am guessing but I think they never built usb 3.0 controllers on the older chips. Since they reused older chips with the regular 15 models, they don’t have an onboard controller to push the higher speeds. Using binned versions of the new chips like they used until last year would have been the way to go. But here we are 😅

At this point we need "ipadOS" implemented Samsung Dex style on the Iphone.

Hey you can actually have a mouse pointer on the iPhone, you just need to enable Assistive Touch in the settings.

For some reason to use a Mouse on iPhones you have to turn on Assistive Touch.

The problem with iPhone 15 plus USB-C implementation is it uses the old A16 chip. That means you don’t have dedicated USB controller. So it’s basically lighting port disguised as a USB-C.

I'll be going from an s22 ultra to a iphone 15 pro max soon. Keep in mind ios has major restrictions on what can play to an external display or projector. I go camping a lot and With Samsung phones you can project sporting events like UFC and ESPN app to a projector. There are absolutely no restrictions on what you mirror on samsung. On iPhone you will see a restriction message and it will only output a black screen with audio only lol. Thats one of the things I'll miss the most when I switch to ios. I wish apple wouldn't restrict like that.

The reason the non pro have usb2 speeds is because they’re using the old cpu chip which has the old usb2.0 controller it’s not a redesigned chip. The new cup has an updated controller

Normal 15 usb is slow because they have the chip from the iPhone 14 which did not have usb c capabilities. Pretty straightforward

The iPhone 15 and 15 plus have 2.0 speed because of the A16 bionic chip. It doesn’t have the USB 3 controller since it was made for last year’s lightning port.

The 15pro has the A17 chip with the10Gb USB controller. The A16 (iPhone 15) was designed for lightning aka USB-2 speeds. Something tells me that not switching all phones to the A17 chip saved more than a few pennies...

My understanding is in order to use the USB-C standard, or any of the USB standards, the manufacturer must comply with the specifications as defined. But, I see they don't have to meet the maximum speeds possible with USB-C as evidenced by the iPh 15 USB-A speed which is what I have. Fortunately I have little need to export or import files to my iPhone.

1:48 it's pretty clear as to why to anyone who has taken even a cursory glance at the specs: the A16 has a USB 2.0 controller. Period. In terms of savings: They've been producing the A16 since _last year_ so they have them laying around _everywhere_ just waiting to be thrown into new phones, whereas the A17 pro is brand new and only available in limited quantities. And you probably can't slap an external USB 3.0 controller on there due to space limitations or maybe the A16 doesn't even have any external bus space free to interface with an external controller, so you use what you've got. So what do you do if you're Apple? Sell off the stock you've built up as part of your manufacturing plan and rake in a huge profit? Or throw it all away and put binned A17s in the iPhone 15, which would severely limit supply and your ability to move devices. All the binned A17 Pros that are being made this year will be relabeled "A17", stockpiled and put in the standard iPhone 16s next year, so count on them having USB 3.0 speeds. Maybe the A18 will bump things up to Thunderbolt speeds, but that might be a bit excessive. Plus don't they need to pay Intel a royalty for using Thunderbolt? I'm not sure.

If the USB C accessories makes an iPhone like a computer, the 5th and 6th gen iPads Pro-with the M series SoC and more powerful ports-are, imho, actual computers.

I guess we just need to be able to hook it up to a monitor, keyboard and mouse (and also have the OS and software to handle these devices too)
