'Jerusalem the Golden' is part of a satiric poem of almost three thousand lines, "De Contemptu Mundi" ("the contemptable world"), written around 1145 by Bernard of Cluny. The English translation is by John Mason Neale, made originally in 1851 and revised in 1858.
The tune is 'Ewing', written by Scottish musican Alexander Ewing in 1853.
It is performed here by the coir of Wells Cathedral.
Video background by Chet Valley Churches: St Mary, Sisland in South Norfolk.

Beautiful scenery. Not from this year clearly. It's a green land.

@@ChetValleyChurches Many thanks for your reply. We holidayed in Norfolk this year and it was very burnt. Trees and shrubs were dying. A poplar tree over the road from us is now dead. We pray that there is repentance in Britain and revival. The Lord may bless us with rain. Love from Buckinghamshire.

Yes, we certainly need more rain. We've had a bit but it often runs out before it gets to us. A bit frustrating. 😊🙏

@@ChetValleyChurches Oh that's not great. I hope you had the recent downpour. We were in London that day and it was enough to flood the Bakerloo line. I keep thinking of that Scripture in 2 Chronicles 7:13-14 When I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain, or command locusts to devour the land or send a plague among my people, if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. If only the British Isles were to return to the Lord, then the above would apply. Terribly sad. I had to counteract a man with a megaphone at Oxford Circus yesterday. He was saying Jesus cannot save you. You can save your self. You are the problem but you are the solution. Could not believe my ears. I shouted "No. Jesus Christ is the Saviour of the world." And that He is returning soon and the speaker was a liar. He was shouting through the megaphone as I descended the stairs to the underground. I was saying that Jesus is returning soon. Love from Buckinghamshire

Wow, the first notes are obviously copied, they come from Johann Abraham Peter Schulz and his melody of "Abendlied", which has existed much longer than this hymn.

That's interesting, Indra. Our information is that the tune was written by Alexander Ewing in 1853. The original Latin words were written around 1145 by Bernard of Cluny. 😊
