handy hint i picked up while researching.. to know if the plastic is compatible with polymer clay look on the packaging for the recycling info. the little triangle with the number inside it will tell you if it's ok or not!! 1, 2, 4 & 5 are all good for clay, 3, 6 & 7 are NOT!! works for the storage tubs, and bags :-)

I have stored my PC in zip lock bags for years - but here's a hint, I wish I'd implemented it a while ago. With a permanent Sharpie(R) Marker, I NOW put the date on the bag indicating when the clay was placed in the bag. I go through all of my PLAIN CLAY (not decorated sheets or canes) and when I see that a month has passed I take just a few moments to run the clay through the pasta machine to "revitalize" it a bit. After this revitalization, I update the date and place the clay back in the bag.

I once lived in an apartment complex that changed ownership - everything went downhill. The leasing office would rent to anyone. Before I could relocate I would awaken and find some of my unbaked clay creations were destroyed. I finally determined someone's cage for the mice they fed their pet snakes (they had a room full of pricey snakes they bred to sell), wasn't always securely latched. Their mice were eating my clay creations, NOT the clay in packages. I was not amused. I contacted the clay brand home office, asking if it would cause problems. Nope, the mice would not be sick. They actually thought my situation was so unique they called me. They were somewhat entertained, I was packing to move.

This is a good idea in humid weather , but i dont know if the clay will stick to the bag ?

How do you wake up canes that have been stored for years?

I like to place them in a warm place (not so hot that they'll cure) and wait for around an hour. Then I'll gently press along the sides to get them moving. If there's cracking, I'll let it warm up some more.

Do you think cello bags are safe for polymer clay? They look the closest to the original packaging of polymer clays.

@@JessamaTutorials I've found another since writing the comment, i think they're called poly bags, they look similar but maybe a little thicker, and they work just the same. I was planning on using them to sandwich rolled clay mixes between and placing them in a box standing up next to each other. Saving on space. I just love the look of the cello bags because they're clear and shiny but poly bags seem to be the safer bet and works just the same.

Very good. Do you have any experience mixing clay types? I want to attach pieces of Sculpey III or Premo to Super Sculpey (because I have it). I'm wondering how it will bond. I should do some tests.

I would do a test or two, but it should work

Generally your main issue is making sure it can be baked at the same temperature. this is why premo/sculpey/cernit cannot be mixed with kato but are usually fine together. Your main issue with mixing will be changing the formula and integrity of certain brands of clay-ie sculpey 3 and super sculpey are more brittle than cernit, fimo or premo. if you are just using up clay why not lol!
