This was the slickest move I've ever seen. The whole start of "Woe is me. My poor widdle fingers. Oh no." Followed by sharing the cupcake. Up to this point even Matt is like "where is this going?" Until she drops the bomb "...and gives disadvantage to wisdom checks." That's when it becomes clear, it was all a trap.

Feel like Matt ran with the rule of cool with this one instead of asking for a slight of hand check on both counts of the dust and the spell. It was a rare moment he let the scene play out. I feel like even his role might have been fudged for the sake of a good story moment honestly. I so rarely get this feeling, but this scene, he let it happen

@@azurastar3223 There was NO roll fudging, she had sprinkled the cupcake seasions ago, and found a time to use it. You could argue he could have asked for a deception check instead of or together with the persuasion check, but it doesn't really matter since she ate the other half so persuasion makes sense on its own. Laura managed to trick Matt, and Matt's roll failed, so he rewarded her. It's not like it was permanently successful anyway, as Isharnai shook it off and thus she has a chance for revenge. Edit: forgot a very important word, the word "no" in the first sentence

I think what makes this scene even better is like technically, Jester isn't even using modify memory for malicious means. She basically tricks the hag into breaking her curse and promises to stay friends and give her more cupcakes... which she does?!

Yeah that’s the best part, like usually modify memory is a fairly ruthless spell and she could’ve done so many different things with it, but the fact that it was used to just give the hag a very pleasant experience that she has maybe never had and then kept a promise to give her cupcakes is just really wholesome trickery lol

At the end of the campaign, they had a talk/discussion show with questions from the viewers. One of them asks what happened between Jester and the Hag. Matt reveals (or implies) that the hag had found out but was very interested in Jester for being able to trick her. Said hag does not seem to want to kill Jester tho.

What really makes this moment is Matt forgetting the Dust of Deliciousness which is an item jester bought in like the 2nd to thrid episode and she pulls it out and uses it at one of the most critical moments in the entire season.

Jester was the perfect character for this. With both an awareness of aristocracy and Fey, and a devious actor streak, she knew what to do. Notice how everything she offered involved her hands, and she offered one. Matt took that offer and doubled it. Jester never said yes or no, and instead sweetened the deal, before sweetening the deal with a “surrender” cupcake.

Ill never get over the look on matts face. That look of "oh no" gets me evwrytime. This, and liam just giving the krynn their artifact were 2 of the biggest "ok... i wasnt expecting that" moments from Matt throughout the campaign.

I live that is one of the talks Matt was asked if the hag finds out and he says she would and she was already feeling off after the spell and then when asked if the hag would get revenge Matt said she most likely wouldn’t as what jester did would have earned respect from the hag

Something that i dont see pointed out a lot about this interaction is the specific way jester modified the memory. The hags whole thing is giving people power, but at horrible costs, feeding of the misery it produces. But Jester made the memory so that, not only does the hag get no misery, but active enjoyment to the point that she would agree to break the spell on Nott. The exact antithesis to uer whole being.

There are some people that say this was problematic because you should tell your DM about something like this in advance and not surprise them so they can either veto it or help you succeed. To them I say, "look at Matt's face; for once, he's not just telling a story, he's also experiencing it, and he's just blown away." Honestly, this was my favorite moment in the whole campaign, and I don't even like Jester. That's just how good it was.

This is still the best moment I've ever seen in critical role, in dimension 20, anything. This moment is the best player moment in a culmination of strategy, role play, luck, selflessness, and just plain guts. The simultaneous genuine shock, pride, and anger in Matt's face is just. so. good.

This is by far I think the best moment in all of critical role so far but to be honest I didn't really watch xandria and I haven't watched much of the third campaign. But it's definitely the best part of campaign one and two and it's hard for me to say that cuz I love campaign one.
