Yes, Very rare to see a Shaft Driven Jet Car at the Drag Strip, I've Seen many, and they all Been Thrust Driven. You really mainly Only see the Shaft Driven Type in Super Modified Truck Pulls.

Not actually a jet car but a turbine car. Rover were developing them for possible every day car use in the UK in the 60s/ early 70s. The engine looks like a T58 which DeHavilands went on to improve too become the Gnome engine.

@@deansmiley8221There's was a rocket axle that you could buy for your car. You turned it on, the rear wheels spun, and you made a pass hoping for the best. Chrysler actually made a turbine concept car in the 60s. GM made turbine car in the 80s that ran on coal dust lmao.

Great video of the new Arfons jet dragster. I was at Thompson Drag Raceway when Walt Arfons driving the original Green Monster Jet dragster crashed into the corn field in 1960,s.

I know its been said a few times that this is a Turbine Engine not a Jet Engine, so to try to explain the difference a turbine engine is used in Helicopters, Military Tanks and also Pulling Tractors and Drag Racing Cars because the turbine is connected to the drive tires through a connected shaft, a Jet engine creates its movement through propulsion which is made by compressing incoming air into the jet engine to burn the jet fuel being injected into the jet engine and that burning of the fuel along with the compressed air is what creates the thrust or jet propulsion, the more fuel that's burnt creates more air being compressed creating more thrust. A little more complicated than this but this is the basic operation of each.

Technially, it's a turbine engine as found in a helicopter, not a jet. Jet operates on exhaust thrust to push an object. Thrust from this would be pushing the car into the ground. This turbine uses a transmission to drive through a normal differential.

Dawn, I need to figure out how to bookmark your videos so i'm not seeing them for the first time a year late!That is cool. I always figured a front engines jet was a bad idea, even though they are already wearing a good fire suit... but the upward exhaust fixes the barbequed driver problem. Good to see a drag racing Arfons out there again.

Turbine not a Jet. Jet engines use thrust, turbines have a drive shaft.

The only thing keeping jet-engine dragsters--wheel-driven or otherwise--from being seen more often is their operating cost... as "Big Daddy" found when trying to find a way to make pro-class drag racing affordable for independent racers.

Didn't Dallas Frock drive one of these back in the 70's. He was the brother of Bob Frock who was a crew member for Art during the land speed record days. Then on to tractor pulling.
