I have had the exact same machine with the same configuration including the mobile base for over 9 years. It is VERY accurate and has plenty of power. The sheering action makes for an incredible finish. I highly recommend it. NICE review!

I upgraded from separate jointer and planer to a 16" Euro-style machine like this one (not the same brand). It took a little bit of thinking up-front to batch my work better (do all jointing and then all planing for a project), but once I did that, everything was so much nicer. Also, these machines are a LOT quieter than the typical lunchbox planer. I had a DW735 and it was about the loudest thing I'd ever heard, even with a Shelix on it. These combo machines still see a lot of community resistance because of how different they are, but they really are nice.

Very helpful review. I'm considering this machine to replace my Powermatic 6" jointer and Jet 15" planer, both with helical heads. You answered a lot of my questions, and I appreciate your comments about the frustration of truing up the jointer beds.

Thanks for the review as it is very timely for me. I just moved to a smaller shop and my Powermatic 15in planer with insert cutters and my MM FSB 35 jointer/planer (the planer side of the machine is crap design) with blades takes up a bit of real estate and have been thinking of options. i have also installed the Jet jointer fence that I was able to order online to my jointer and covers the 350 mm width just fine and i like it over a large pork chop cover that was shop made when I bought the machine.

Hi Guy great video . My question is does the fence stay Ridgid and doesn't move when you make repetitive passes. A lot of other machines I have seen when you lock them into place the still have movement. Thanks

Thank you Guy for the review. As a result, I just picked mine up and actually fired it up today. I'm still smiling lol. I did have one question, do you know if Jet, or anyone for that matter, makes any extension wings for the jointer bed? I have some 8' 8/4 white oak to run through it and am going to use some roller stands however, I've seen extension wings for the Hammer version of this machine and thought they would be handy. Thanks again!

I have this same machine. I had to spend about an hour coplaning the beds. I like the euro guard better than the more common pork chop guard. Being able to see more of the working piece to me is a hige advantage.

Thanks for the video, I have a 10" version of the Jet with an after market helical head fitted. Apart from size there are a couple of small differences. I am still trying to adjust the tables to perfect coplanar and it is very frustrating with lots of action with straight edges, feeler gauges and lots bad language. You mention that the motor is 240volt. I am located in Australia where we are on 240 volt 50 Hz, which country are you in that uses 240 volt? All the best

They've made them for a long time. They've never gotten very good feedback on average from buyers and the price has doubled over the last decade, so they usually get passed over for something like a hammer combo machine. Jet has decent quality control, but they do make some duds. I had a bandsaw (JWBS-18X) from them that was a hundredth out of round on the wheels, which sounds like no big deal, but leaves deep striations on anything that it cuts. That's how out of round it was on the castings, not the tires. maybe it could've been fixed with layers of duct tape - I sold it instead and took a great loss finding a buyer who didn't care about its cut quality problems.

Hi Guy, great video. I have the same machine but am having trouble getting the Jointer set up properly. I cannot find anyone that can explain the set up for this jointer. I have spent all day trying to get the table and head set up properly, could you please do a video on the set up? Much appreciated. You'd think JET would have some sort of video showing the procedure to fine tune the machine. Thanks, Frustrated Terry from Australia.

Hey Guy, I gotta ask, as a fellow JJP12-HH owner. When your machine first arrive, how did you ensure that the outfeed table is parallel with the cutterhead given that its helical? I have found the manual quite lacking for the helical head version. A phone call to Jet and thet instructed me that the cutters should barely touch a flat board. What did you use to reference it?

Check the amazon reviews for the same machine before jumping. 3.3 stars is unusually low for anything. I remember when they first came out and they have problems (that hopefully have been solved) and didn't sell well at about $1800. That was somewhere around 2008 or so, I remember seeing them at IWF - powermatic and Jet were just then embarking on a stiff price increase strategy due to economic weakness and currency (as well as rising overseas costs). It looks like they continued to carry it out!!

Thanks for the review. I was looking at the grizzly but it is 5hp and I don’t have a power supply for that in my shop which is in an otherwise finished basement and would require too much to upgrade to 30A circuit. The fence on the Jet looks a little on the cheap side. Is it just stamped steel? Also the way it slides looks like saw dust could get underneath the slides and throw it out of square?

This Jet machine is also a 230V 30A machine, so would require new wiring for you. The fence is extruded aluminum.

It appears that switching to Jointer mode requires lowering the planer table down to a specific level? I'm researching this machine as there's one for sale on Craiglist...not being able to set and leave a planer setting or even having to crank it so low to switch every time has me thinking twice.

Thanks Guy. I’ve been considering a jointer planer combo. My shop is only 16x32 and the 15 inch planer and 8 inch jointer seem to be eating more than their fair share of the floor space. I’ll definitely take a good long hard look at this machine now.

What are your thoughts on this machine compared to the rikon model 25-210h. They seem to be identical except for a few minor details and the fit and finish. I'm set on this design. But I'd like to save the 1k difference in price if they are comparable.

I checked out an online video of the Rikon and was wondering as well. The Rikon has a different surface on the bed and appears to not be as smooth. I didn’t like the way it sounded when you moved wood across the surface.. Jet often has sales of 10-15% off. If you can get 500-600 off this one and get it down to 3600 or so, I’d rather have the JET

I can always count on you to have the high quality tools! I recently put a shelix cutter head in my DeWalt DW735. Its a vast improvement over the original 3 blade straight cutter head it came with, however, I do notice a slight scalloping effect that is parallel with the long edge of the board. Does your jet have any similar issue? I'd love to have all those beautiful, heavy machines you have but my shop is in the basement and the only access is down some stairs. Oh well, I make do ; ). Snipe does not have to do with the quality of the machine entirely, it depends on the factory adjustments or owner adjustments in relations of the cutterhead to the table' Also it depends on how warped the board is.

Good LORD - these machines came out around 2008 or so (i remember it) and were going to be sort of the saviour machine for space, and they were about $1700-$2000 back then. Ten years on, and amazon lists the HH version at $4300, which is 2/3rds the cost of a Hammer A3-41. Since then, I've gone to working entirely by hand, but had a very mediocre jet bandsaw that I eventually sold at a great loss (JWBS-18X). They were increasing prices quickly back then through ownership changes (I guess someone has to pay back the loans) and grizzly was struggling with manufacturing costs at the same time. But where they've (and powermatic) ended up on price makes no sense given they're all pacific rim machines and generally not as well designed or well regarded (3.3 out of 5 for this model on amazon, with plenty of detail as to why people didn't like them) as the euro machines, and resale on all of them is bad. If you get back half of new, you're lucky.
