@Russell_Huston
@Russell_Huston Жыл бұрын
@@bobdown8043 yes, a scooter, or "Heinemann's Hot Rod" after the designer Ed Heinemann. Ed was tasked with designing as simple and elemental a carrier based plane as he could for ground attack and some air to air combat capability, and keep the budget down. Engine, small cockpit, wings, tail, that's about all. A "sports car" as originally conceived, but as you might expect, over time loaded up with more advanced avionics and weapons systems. At the first Blue Angels demo I got to see, they were flying Skyhawks. Very nimble, quick rolling planes. Looked like a blast to fly.....but then they all are, aren't they!

*It's amazing that at least 9 of the F-86 Sabre are STILL FLYING?!!* I saw one at an air base in South Korea parked in a corner. I don't think it was flyable, but there it was. Glad to see they flew these jets normal and with care, as opposed to "Hot Dogging" it, which has resulted in loss of some vintage birds.

@@DeadSkyWT Look at the landing gear of the Skyhawk. It's very long and seems too thin to take the landing of the aircraft. Skyhawks are pretty small, but they hit like a ton of bricks when landing on a carrier, like every other aircraft. The gear just doesn't look strong enough.
