I've been an avid Jetboil user for years. In fact, I love my Jetboil Flash... but Fire Maple recently sent me the Petrel 600ml pot and Green Peak stove combo. In this video you get a first look at the Petrel Pot and how it combines with the Green Peak stove. I'm really impressed with the stove.

nice review, I recently bought the jetboil because price in this case happened to be a non-factor, but looking at the two, I like how the Fire Maple locks it's lid with the handle. A couple of differences I also noticed was that with the JetBoil I can just lift my pot and it brings the whole thing around, and secondly it would be nice if there was some kind of rubber lip so you can drink from the pot directly. I really like that the fire maple's burner just locks into place with the cup, very nice. the fire maple also looks a decent bit lighter, probably honestly better for backpacking

Gongrats on the Jetboil. It won’t let you down. I’ve used MiniMo almost daily for three years on and off the trail. It has not failed once. Edit: Looking to go lighter with Petrel + Soto WindMaster combo. 🤞

@@snaxpy thank you for the encouragement. It was really difficult for me because I really do love my jet boil. I think I just have an affinity for it. I was really surprised at how well the fire maple did

I really like my jet boil. One thing that was surprising to me in this video is that it took like 40 clicks for my PO to work in my jet boil. I need to figure out what’s causing that malfunction. I’ve never had that experience before.

I would choose the Fire Maple over the Jetboil any day of the week. Especially over Jetboil versions that do not have control over the flame intensity - those are literally just for boiling water, you can't even make pasta in them without high risk of burning something. Add the benefits of the Fire Maple being lighter and cheaper. Plus the fire maple's handle is stiff, and I can't figure out when the Jetboil wins.

That is such a good point. The Fire Maple has flame control. I was with a buddy who tried to cook in his Jetboil and it just stuck to the sides. Jetboils selling point is the ability to boil water. That is great if you're brining pre-packaged meals. I normally need to carry a Bear vault when backpacking and that means that I need to repackage and make my own meals to keep down on volume of food. I really like the Petrel!

Yes they should have done this with a couple of different sized pots initially instead of just copying the jet boil.

My petrel did 500ml in 1m30s and also needs ti be with the right gas as the conparison wasnt the same. They do a better more powerful stove, the polaris that fits it too so is quicker and more efficient 👍

I actually did a test the day before and started the Petrel 600 first. The Jetboil took so long to ignite and the Fire Maple set up had boiled in 1:50. I was super impressed

i use my jetboil for long distance travels . it's enough to cook 2 person meal . But 600ml Maple sounds like a good idea for light bikepacking trips . id would put 100 gr gas canister with all stuf for tea and maybe titanium cup as well

I like to bring my jetboil when I take my kids out. The neoprene sleeve (or whatever it is) provides some peace of mind against burns. I’m doing the JMT next month and think I’ll bring the Jetboil stash but then bring the Fire Maple for a shorter trip in September to see how it does.

@@NealBenson friend of my like to travel a lot on motorcycle and he only takes 100 gr canister , BRS , half a spoon and stuffing it in 700ml cup . can't think of the lighter solution . now i thinking to order Fire Maple and try it out . its so much smaller then Jetboil and for bykepacking volume and weight is ultra essential

@@snejok888 I have a Toaks 750ML pot and a Pocket Rocket Deluxe. I bought the BRS stove but it's so small it makes me a little nervous to use it on the trail. I also backpack around 8,000 feet elevation and have heard the fuel use goes down on the BRS really bad. I think the Fire Maple and the heat exchanger will help with fuel consumption

@@NealBenson tourist gas usually has more butane . its reduced temperature and pressure . one of my colleagues is a climber and he filling up canisters himself from big gas canisters for bbq . the gas from gas stations has a lot more protane . you need to fill up 10-20% less grammes of gas in canister but it gives more heat ! dont know what kinda gas you can buy in your area but in europe it works . thers bunch of videos on youtube how to fill up camping gas canisters

@@snejok888 I have a friend in the Middle east who was telling me the gas mix for butane is different there also. I guess I never considered it would be different. I recently got a Flip Fuel device where you can refuel the smaller cans. It's a huge win to have it. I'm going to bring it on the JMT with me this this year so I can refuel my small can from someone's half full can.

I've been comparing the Petrel to the Toaks 650 lite, both with the Soto Windmaster TriFlex. Both boil water quickly if turned up high, but in testing fuel efficiency, they are both boiling 2 cups of water using an average of about 6.5g of fuel. I'm not seeing any significant difference between the two after dozens of boils of stream water at between 6500 and 9000 feet altitude. The Petrel is stable, holds 800ml if filled to the top, and I like how the handle folds over the top. The Toaks is quite a bit lighter (2.1 oz to 4.8 oz for the Petrel with no lids) but the handles do sometimes get hot. I use a stretch silicon lid on both, and use the lid as a pot grabber with the Toaks. I'm kinda intrigued by the Green Peak Stove and may try it. Thanks for the video, good job.

Thank you for the encouragement! And thank you for sharing your experience with how much gas each stove uses per boil. This has been something that I’ve been trying to figure out. And in my testing, I wish I would have weighed each gas can prior to the use, but it just wasn’t possible and the conditions that I was in. I also put some silicone handles on my toes handles because they get hot. I really like the petrol pot and it’s handle. I think they have a great design and I can’t wait to continue to see how this company advances in the future.

Also look at costs. Even with using the, higher priced, Windmaster, that combination is SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper than the Jet Boil. Flash = $130. Petrel/Windmaster = $105. Petrel/Green Peak =
